Ford claim 650 at the fly wheel, not the wheels. 593 at the wheels is pretty good. A lot of energy can be absorbed by the drive train and the tires.

I think they pulled their head out of their ass a couple years ago, we're just starting to see the effects now...hybrid Fusion-better power and MPG than hybrid Camry, Navistar dumped, Scorpion diesel coming ~720 lbs torque stock. Now we just need some Euro models like the 65mpg diesel fiesta. As long as they can up the quality a little they'll stay a player in the game, and maybe even pull out some surprises...who knows? Tugowars r a useless measurement - its all tires and driver.
