Diesel stinks and can be very hard to remove. It acts like a solvent, melting plastics and paint and soaking into them. It can cause marks on plastic and completely destroy carpets.
Diesel is essentially a light oil and horrible to get rid of, that's not to say that petrol is much better. We have dealt with both over the years.
We will clean the affected areas, use products which can break down oil and remove as much of it as possible, but with fuel and oil spillages, we will often have to replace some parts.
The next thing to do is to deal with the odour, and we will have to use every trick in the book. We wet or dry fog our products into the car, so they get to every surface. Some will be deodorants which neutralize the odour, but we know from experience that this won't be enough. So we will use "pairing", which is a technique where you add a fragrance which has similar notes to the odour which you are trying to get rid of. In this case, Kentucky Blue Grass. You can't just spray this around like an air freshener and mask the smell, you do first have to get rid of 99.9% of the odour first.
