I’ve got an electrical issue in my Humvee. I can’t tell you how helpful this video has been. This gives me the confidence to check my battery and my wires. Thank you.
@FrankBenlin3 жыл бұрын
When he's checking the AC voltage in the house, the reason he inserts the probes with one hand is so if something happens, the charge is confined to that hand (if you are not grounded) instead of going from hand to hand which includes your heart. You don't want that. Now KZfaq's auto bot will bury this comment deep in the 373 previous comments so no one will ever see it.

I'm an I.T. tech, but I hate to admit that all I knew about electricity before this video was the acronym AC/DC LOL 🙈🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️so I really, really, really appreciate this very thorough & ez to follow video!! 👏🏼😎 Imho you would make a great instructor (if that's not what you already do for a living). I just got me a multimeter for the very same purpose explained in the video (testing if the alternator is properly working before I take it to shop) and now I have a very good idea on how to use it!! Thank you very much for sharing!! Be Blessed!! 🙋🏻♂️ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Perfect. Was asked by a supplier of a 12v charger to run a test. Had no idea what they were talking about which led me to various youtubes. This one nailed it for me. Easy to understand and very informative. Thanks this was PEREFECT

Thank you Bob. My step father recently passed. He raised me from 1 yr old. He was auto mechanic and auto upholstery professional. Had his own shops off and on most of his life. I miss him greatly. As do my 13 other siblings. I woulda went by his shop and got the same tutorial from him. Like I did for anything and everything. His name was BOB. Thank you again.

Hi diesel giant- I have to test some relays in my car (04 Honda civic EX coupe) and did some googling to re-familiarize myself with my multi meter since I haven’t used it in 3-4 years. I just wanted to say that there’s a crap ton of videos out there on this stuff, especially when it comes to power window switch/motor/regulator troubleshooting- what I’m searching) and your video is by far the best at going over the basics of the multi meter. A lot of KZfaq channels don’t realize that they’ll say “ok and then switch your multimeter to DC for voltage” but don’t explain about the difference between dc and ac voltage (like the fact that you will never use AC for your auto, etc), and they also don’t explain perhaps what number you should be using (20 vs.200, etc.). I just like the fact that you as a teacher DON’T AUTOMATICALLY ASSUME that we are going to know those things! So many videos don’t describe what they are doing and why. There’s also the other end of the spectrum- there’s the long videos where it takes forever for them to get to the point (I’ll literally fast forward until I see them actually pick up the multimeter 🙄) I just wanted to say that for a 20 minute video instruction I watched the entire thing, and you did a very good job at giving the basics in a CONCISE manner, without skipping over things you don’t realize may not be obvious to all of us. So thanks for this video!!!

@@JasonLee-lv7tm a pretty damn smart, savvy chic who both writes music and works on her own car… most men are actually impressed. So if you’re trying to put me down because I wrote a lot and that alone made you stop to actually type out a “typical chic” comment - sorry, but it didn’t work. you can’t put me down 🙂😇

I am just beginning with a test light and because my dad used to incorporate a multimeter into everything, dc and ac, I knew I needed to learn how to use one. Wow, you made it so easy to understand and I can see that I will have to take each part of my car and it's testing one step at a time, first learning the volts as well as resistance, to do a proper diagnosis. Thank you.

Thank you sir for your very clear instruction in the proper use of the multimeter, your ability to impart complex information so clearly and conscisely is highly impressive.
He forgot to talk about testing for circuit continuity. The multimeter has a 9v battery inside it and can send a current through the wires to see if there is a break in the circuit. The position is there on the dial. Also you can check whether a power supply exists between 2 points in a circuit - by putting the red probe into the live wire or on a live terminal (with a power supply on) and the black probe to a good earth or ground.

Great video! Voltage drop can be another very useful method to test starter connections, grounds, you name it. Take any electrical path (ie. battery cable) and connect one probe to point A (ie. battery) and the other probe to point B (ie. post on starter) and crank it. If you show 2 volts while cranking, thats 2 volts thats not getting to the starter. Sometimes you can show very low resistance with the meter, but have enough resistance to starve a device. I need to use this method between my cab and my battery with all my accessories on to find an existing ground issue.

Thanks to your video explaining the settings on a multimeter, and another video using an inexpensive multimeter, I was able to located the source of the electrical drain causing the perfectly good battery in my truck (with a good alternator) to go dead after a couple of days of not driving it. Prior to watching your video I only used my multimeter to check the voltage of household type batteries. The simplicity of your explanation made it easy, with mine in hand, to follow along as you explained the various settings and uses. Your video was just as the title says that it is.... Thanks.
