Dubai and the Middle East continues to be a key market for global wealth managers and private bankers attracted not only by the location but also the supportive regulatory environment, rule of law and business infrastructure.
The market is, however, competitive and customer expectations are evolving. Now more than ever to be successful institutions must be agile and forward thinking in product development, client management and service provision.
The shifts in asset allocation in mainstream and Islamic finance were discussed, indicating that the new generation of investors are challenging the old business models, focusing now on investment themes and trends rather than traditional
stocks and bonds.
The panellists explored the growing correlations between for ESG led and Islamic SRI investing.
Core to all is that the whole sector must continue to provide real value to clients, not only in terms of returns, but also in the wider business of long-term family wealth management and succession planning.
Looking ahead, the battle for talent and the growing role of technology in service provision and product development are the factors likely to define the future of this sector.
The optimisation of tools such as artificial intelligence and Big Data to enhance service provision will change the industry and differentiate the leaders from the laggards.
The challenge for all is to meet the human resources challenge, sourcing experienced private bankers and wealth managers who can build the business to meet client needs now and into the future.
