I don't know the theoretical difference but lhb coaches are much lighter in weight. While travelling we feel the immediate push by p7 engine whereby the coach accelerates within no time whereas in older coaches much time was taken to accelerate. Lhb is a boon for Indian railways. All older are being replaced by it. Also there is fast breaking mechanism in lhb coaches.

Working as engineer in railways .....both uses air brake systems the only difference is how we apply the brakes in ICF we directly apply to wheels using brakes pads but due to disadvantages it has been replaced by axle mounted disc in lhb but compressed air is used in both....please note this point everyone.....thanks !!!! Harbar jab koi cheez nayi athi hain woh usi prakar ke purani cheez may jo kamthartha thay unka upar kuch badlav karkay banaya jatha hain. Aur jab usko market may lathay hain tho bahot shorgul hotha hain. Lekin kuch samay baad unmay koi kamthartha nikal athi hain aur dubara fir ek naya model ajatha hain. Angreji may kahthey hain, "When you try to solve one problem, it creates two new problems". Yane ek sankat ya kamthartha ko sudharne ke samay do nayi samasya kadi ho jathi hain. Aur yeh silsila jaree rahenga. Isiliye kehtey hain "Necessity is the mother of Invention"... Let us hope under the new leadership our Railways attain more and more progress. Very well explained. Sir can u explain why do we get hard jerks in some trains (even in AC coaches) when they start or brake? It is very uncomfortable. Railways must do something about it.
