I have lived and worked in London, United Kingdom for the past one year and three months and during this period, I have experienced so many differences in lifestyle, culture, food, race relations, community etc. , here in the UK that sharply contrast my experience living in Nigeria (West Africa) for the most part of my life. This videos explores three major topics which i consider to affect my daily life here in the UK and probably may be relatable to other Africans/Nigerians out there. I am curious to hear youth thoughts in the comments. I am also curious to hear people who were born and bred here in the UK and people who moved here form other parts of the world. I would like to know if you have had similar or different experiences.
I have lived in London all through my stay here so most of my experiences are based off my time here in London.
Disclaimer: I do not claim to be an expert in any of the fields I discussed.

Brilliant video, Yemi. I lived in the UK for a decade and I concur with pretty much everything you mentioned - especially the cultural diversity, particularly in London. Your friend does have a fair counter-argument about community-building though - you're likely to share a stronger bond with a neat little handful of people who grew up with you. What I've noticed is the older we get, the less bandwidth we have to make the kind of deep connections we did when younger. Couple that with quintessential British privacy as well as the isolation typical of megacities, and you've got your work cut out for you !

Thanks for your comment Olumide! Yes, I was quite surprised when i realized how cultures are not as interwoven as I'd expected it. It's understandable that people wanna be around their communities, but there are these invisible boundaries people tend to have. and yes, it's easier to build community when are born and bred in a place. Only thing is, i feel like, Nigerians may be more receptive to 'foreigners' once they find out you are from a different country. That was my experience back home.

We need less migration sadly and , it’s not good as it puts pressure on our infrastructure, services and social cohesion .. in a way I am proud to be British , we are a magnificent country compared to other places , we celebrate free speech , have modernised the world , developed industrialisation and helped towards enlightenment ! Other countries need to develop more and fight corruption , reform their religious beliefs and modernise and become more tolerant and maybe then people won’t leave them !

yes Britain is great and the people are the best - BUT how did Britain get so rich? it was the Empire..its lovely to be so enlightened after your ancestors have colonised so many countries killed enslaved the people and stolen all their wealth , making them bankrupt. Those countries like Nigeria and west africa were wealthy before the europeans visited them to "help" them. If they were left alone then most people prefer to stay in their homelands and not migrate to the richer countries to make money to send home to their struggling families. I agree with you that UK is crowded but there is room for everyone - in fact the economy needs more people in order to grow. Right now UK is struggling and the public services are falling apart. Its not because of too many people, its because of the corrupt politicians giving our tax money to bankers rather than creating jobs and more housing
