Other than the Japanese, Asian, American and European versions of Gran Turismo 4 there's also a Chinese version and most commonly the Korean version. There are also other differences between versions like different names from some Japanese cars, different names from some events etc. In fact, there are a lot of differences between all versions of Gran Turismo 4 to cover.

Idk why no-one talks about this,but in the Japanese version of gt4 there is a 'commentary mode' in replays where someone will basically just commentate on your driving

The B Spec pace options, US has Steady, Slow, etc. while EU has Balanced pace, increased pace, push hard, etc.

The countdown to start the race of the infamous Mission 34 of Driving Missions is 115 seconds in the PAL version while it's 123 seconds in the NTSC-U/C version which makes this mission extra brutal for the American version.

We might have been a bit unlucky with some of the things we had to sacrifice with the PAL versions we had here in Europe but I enjoyed my PS2 and games nonetheless and still do. :)

The gt mode changes because they made it so that the states that the cars are from are like on a world map, since EU, US and Japan maps are different the menu is different, it was so cool when I first discovered this

Prize cars are different on all versions The Japanese version has the most cars if i recall. The US and PAL versions have some slightly different cars. Missions and licenses have different times due to the framerate. The US version got 60fps as it's NTSC, the PAL version is 50fps. I'd honestly like to slap whoever came up with "used car showroom 1" and "used car showroom 2" it makes no sense 😂

The most obvious difference on first glance is probably the music used in the intro cinematic. The Japanese version uses a rock version of the iconic 'Moon over the Castle' which is essentailly GT's theme song The European version uses Kasabian - Reason is Treason The American version uses Van Halen - Panama

fun fact: the opponents in arcade mode (at least in the us version) seem to use CH as their power number for some reason i thought changing the power to kw would change the opponents as well but then my jaw dropped when my opponents still had the same power number while my camaro was the only one to actually change to kw

When you get a new track in GT mode you will get a picture of the track in PAL but in NTSC J you will only get text.

USed car lists and availability cycles are different too. THis affect B-spec only runs. PAL lets you start with a Midget-II which can do a one-make race and earns some good $$$ almost instantly, but NTSC-U can't get one in the used car dealership until week....9? So you're much better off getting either a kei car or something which can do compact championship and getting to it.

There's a difference between License S-16 NTSC and PAL. In PAL Version, it uses the AMG Mercedes 190 Evo2. In NTSC Version, it uses the Sauber Mercedes C9 for S-16

There's that S16 mission difference as well, the japanese versions is with a Sauber Mercedes C9 and the NTSC version is with that car which kinda reminds of Mercedes-Benz 190E

It's no surprise that the PAL version of Gran Turismo 4 doesn't have 1080i resolution support. Even the PAL Xbox didn't have resolution options. It had a PAL 60 mode.

Chinese and Korean versions would be interesting but the are more common versions covered makes sense of course than those 2 versions being probably similar to the Japanese version or EU I assume if the Korean and Chinese versions were the last releases or early like the Japanese release and the others came after even. GT 2001/2002 Concept was Japan/Tokyo and Korea/Seoul naming first then Europe as the final version but that doesn't likely apply to everything of course. Car brands like Vauxhall and Opel are always a thing, Lexus and Altezza usually swap. You get your ESSEN and ESSO branding on cars notably the Toyota GT One but it might also be licensing too maybe at certain titles for certain games I think too maybe not sure for GT4 versions. Music OSTs it can be interesting with more Japanese or US artists I can see why but didn't look enough between to check. Australia being moved in the GT Mode map is interesting for JP version. The names, credit numbers and descriptions (not sure on that I could be forgetting for dealerships, the descriptions are probably elsewhere you do get descriptions for parts though I know that as well as once you buy the car but I forget when browsing the dealerships I'd they appear but seems so in this footage but as AU has the EU version I assume it's the same) aware of for used cars for US didn't know they named Old Timer and such for JP though. The music was still different in versions until GT5P I think. Progressive Scan always seemed to be an NTSC thing so makes sense for US and JP versions didn't realise intro 5.1 output wasn't in the US version though. Or units in JP what units do they use I wonder as their default???? Metric I think I don't know. Languages always make sense in EU versions while US I always wonder if it's English and Spanish but it's usually just English. While whatever the case of South American versions but those don't usually get covered. I like they showed the genres and offered good variety EDM music kind of started for me with GT4 music besides the menus. Throttle and Ready surprised me when I saw the US version years ago now it makes sense. I get why as ready is easier to language convert. I wonder for Cheat codes whether they work across all versions I tried them in my AU/EU copy and I assume many that use Emulators use the US version so I assume it isn't different but who knows.

In Europe and USA, you don't get the Toyota Altezza AS200 and RS200. Instead you can have its two immigrant brothers, the Lexus IS 200 and Lexus IS 200 (J). Unfortunately, that makes the IS 200 unable to compete in Japanese events, because according to the game, Lexus is American. :(

i'm italian, and i think it's better the ntsc-j because is hardest and completed with the music, and also for the fact that the original version, i play with the manual transmission and more play with 16:9 because it's more comfortable

I think in the pal version the ai tyre wear wears out faster than the ntsc version.

The currency in the Japanese version is different from the Europe and North American version

i've notice some differences between both PAL (Europe) version and NTSC/UC (USA) version. Such as in PAL version the tyres are wear out and turning from blue into red faster a couple of laps than the NTSC US version, the endurance time also runs faster. For example on PAL version when participating the 24h de la sarthe 2 (no chicane) the PAL version finished at around 426 laps or more and the NTSC US version finished at around 440 laps or more. I also noticed that the opponents AI in the PAL version are frequently error and fails, such as when i play arcade mode using the Formula Gran Turismo at Circuit De La Sarthe the AI opponents suddenly hit and crashed into the wall without any reason (maybe it caused by the strong effect of the gravity gauge at the bottom) which is rarely happen even didn't happen at all on Gran Turismo 4 NTSC/UC (USA) version But i'd like to play the PAL version, because it has 10 extra cars than the other versions, the screen resolution are better colours and quality than the other versions of GT4. Especially i can easily win a tournament career races or arcade mode thanks to the silly, error, and the fails of the AI opponents 🤣

todays my birthday but we celebrated it yesterday, and im now 11 and my uncle gifted me the pal gran turismo 4 and a ps2 fanatec wheel and i was super excited and my family gave me 20 euros for my mom so she can fix the ps2 and im waiting to get the ps2 that i have to get fixed and play it. - The mighty mitsubishi lancer evo 5 gsr! edit: the thing im worried about is that it didnt come with the 8mb card to also play gt mode and idk if that makes ur data be saved in the game.
