Dr. Arnaldo Lopez, CEO & General Dentist with SOMI Dental Group, explains different types of bites: healthy bite, overbite, underbite, and open bite.
He says any of these bites can occur in patients. Some of them are genetics. Most of them can be corrected with either Invisalign or braces.
Sucking the thumb at an early age can cause an open bite, explains Diana Perez-Caballero, Lead Dental Hygienist with SOMI Dental Group. An open bite can cause people to breathe through their mouths. Patients have dry mouth, a lot of plaque accumulation, and bleeding gums.'

I sucked my thumb from birth until I was about 8 or 9 years old (not all the time by that point, mostly when sleeping). I have a healthy bite if going by the picture. I think sucking my thumb allowed me to "mew" properly, because it's natural for my tongue to be pressed against roof of my mouth and front tip of tongue to be against backs of top front teeth. Guess I got lucky.

Aesthetic Vibes Only ! If your overbite is bad enough you might need a twin block brace. It’s removable but it holds ur jaw where it should be and that moves ur teeth

Why isnt mine here, I got the opposite of an openbite, my upper and lower front teeth hits each other so the rest of the teeth dont connect.

Oh I have similar set to that! Try closing the rows of teeth and the back and see if you have an overbite or an underbite When I try to keep my set at a healthy bite set, my back rows of teeth doesn't touch so when my back rows touch, I have an overbite.

Im so unlucky i have a open bite and it’s really true it’s because of sucking my thumb and now im 16 but still sucking it sometimes like when i sleep and it really made sense cuz the side is worsening to the point that i hate waking up everyday because i feel like my mouth so dry. i dont know why i cant stop sucking my thumb but it’s because when i suck i thumb i feel relax and comfortable and i like those feelings. i hope i can overcome this shit

You can get guards in your mouth to prevent it, go to your dentist and tell them the problem, I had a similar thing when i was younger. Only downside is that eating becomes such a challenge but it is worth it in the end.

Do I have an underbite? When my lower jaw is relaxed, bottom teeth stick out in front of upper teeth. When I speak I notice lower teeth teeth protruding out in front of my upper teeth. I can physically pull back lower jaw behind upper teeth to form a proper bite but it’s not comfortable and when I chew it’s wearing the back of my front teeth out. It effects my speech enunciation because there’s tension when I force my lower teeth behind my upper teeth. Do I have an underbite? The fact that “I can” attain a proper bite with effort eliminate possibility of underbite and it’s something else? Thank you!

devon if you have a decent size overbite you’ll probably need something called a twin block brace which is something that I have right now. It slots together and forces your job back to normal it doesn’t hurt and it’s removable

@@kalpanapaudel2164 We have the same problem, but mine is a little bit worse because my 2 upper front teeth were almost an inch outward, I was bullied because of it. I got my braces last year and my dentist needed to extract my 2 molars, now my teeth are straight and have a 3 mm gap between my upper and lower teeth.
