My father died of alcoholism. Even though he is dead. I pray the Roseary in front of The Blessed Sacrament, this is a plenary indulgence giving the person you are praying for the chance to get out of purgatory

The Divine Mercy Chaplet🌹, I call it the Chaplet of Love, also works for this purpose very well...I try to pray two daily, one for girls, and one for boys.. It's so easy, because it only takes about 10 min. each, while the most Holy Rosary 🌹, which I also pray daily, takes about 30 mins. I have felt The Holy Spirit pretty strong, just the other day, as I started this chaplet, while I was adding a new person to my list, so they must have needed it :) I also felt The Holy Spirit when I prayed my first Divine Mercy Chaplet 🌹, including my parents...My father has been an alcoholic since his mid 30's, and continues to be an alcoholic, and at 78, he is already displaying signs of dementia, when we talk over the phone... You cannot successfully control the choices or actions of another person. Sometimes, with someone who is very frequently hurtful, we need to move away somewhat and then either partially or fully to cut them out of our life until they choose to repent and choose to change their behavior.

Kaitan, I'm obviously not Father Mark, but I really feel I understand your pain here. I grew up with an abusive father, both verbally and physically abusive. There are quite a few dark spirits that really enjoy feeding off of both the perpetrator and the victim or victims of such abuse. It then becomes a vicious cycle, which can take over a family for many generations. There's a reason why they used to call alcohol " alcoholic spirits'! Yes, the best thing, for everyone's health would be distance. My husband taught me how to let go and forgive my father, which was very important for my mental, emotional, and spiritual welfare. It took me cutting him off completely for about 7 yrs., before I could talk to him on the phone or see him in person...Now, I pray for him daily, with the Rosary 🌹, and have even prayed for his conversion. Praying the Rosary 🌹 has been more effective in healing all my past wounds than anything in the world...I wish you luck, and many prayers for you and your father.
