@@jamesdutchman8862I think they open up the oyster a little bit to the point they can get to the pearl and get it out and put something else in there (I don’t know what) and close back up so the oyster is still alive and can be harvested again at a later date

Know that these are "cultured" pearls. The longer they remain in the shell, the thicker the lacquer. As to qualms to just getting the pearl. The meat is un your soup and the shell can be sold for calcium.

The oysters if all is used doesn't go to waste and as hard as it is for many of you to understand there are people who live off the land and ocean eating what god provides. I don't agree strictly for their pearl because that's wasteful but what do you expect? How many of you eat filet of salmon? That's an living breathing creature yet you eat it. If you don't want it the go all vegetarian.
