As my Personal relationship with Digger is Limited i asked one of his friends to say some words i could use with this description of a True Hero Digger Gardner.
however it was my privilege and honour since meeting him in Cheddar to come and film these events whenever i can, All i have is the utmost respect for you all.
I have known Digger for a number of years . Digger and myself met at remembrance weekend in London. We got chatting and found how he served in The Royal Artillery. We became very he lived in Essex so we teamed up together as members of Blesma . Then he lost the second leg . That was the start of the life change . He would visit me and Lynne my wife always enjoyed Digger visiting. We became very close friends.
I am Lynne, Ivor's wife. His front temporal dementia means he has difficulty with writing information
Ivor met Digger through Blesma a few years ago and they instantly hit it off. At that time Digger was a one leg below knee amputee following his scorpion incident. We met frequently and Digger had ideas about helping veterans and how he thought this could be achieved. Ivor and Digger had many conversations about this and eventually Digger got it off the ground and Tail End Charlie was born and Aline was instrumental in this. Unfortunately Digger was/is very susceptible to infection following this and sepsis set in and the whole leg was amputated, followed by the other leg. Following a veteran event in London on Good Friday Digger took a turn for the worse and was very ill and had to be resuscitated a couple of times. He ended up having amputations of hip and was given 3 months to live. Digger isn't ready to go anywhere yet and has fought and fought with the help of Aline and Laura. Also Tail End Charlie members have helped him in every way possible. He is a true hero.
a Huge thank you for the words of Ivor Tunks with the help of his wife Lynne.
i have added a link at the top so you can contribute if you can to help me with my expenses in these events as i live on Disability and the cost travelling from North Devon is getting more difficult to find. so buying me a coffee would help with next time, if the ink is not clickable please copy and paste it into a browser
many thanks
Nick
