This is also, in part, why I love vinyl. Watching a piece of plastic spin and pour out a familiar song is so cool. Magical even. I think experiencing a series of neat sounds coming together in real time to form your favorite jam works similarly. :D

In 2012 I got to see them live for free because I worked at the venue the performed at. Raekwon was working the merch booth before the show & there was line of about 100 people waiting for merch. I walked up to the booth and dropped a few stickers & punk pins of my band into the tip jar & Raekwon shouted "Yo! WTF is this shit!?" I simply told him that I was an electronic producer & wanted him & the rest of Wu to check me out. Rae reached in the jar and took out my stickers and pins & said "it wasn't cool - If you're gonna promote your stuff or give me something, you need to wait in line like every other person - and MAYBE I'll accept your merch." So I did waited almost an hour, finally got to the booth, asked him if I could give him a some stickers and pins, he said -"Yes - Whatchu got!" then he tells me that I did good by humbling myself and showing respect, and he gave a free bootleg mixtape CD of his stuff & other Wu members/associates, shook my hand and said, "You learned something tonight & I'm proud of you, and I'm gonna check out your music. If I like your beats I'll contact you." He never did. But I got free CD out of it and the main thing was I earned the respect of one of members of Wu-Tang! 🙌

Hot take. Wu Tang is THE single handed most important group in music history. They spanned so many aspects of life that no group has done before or since. From the large group dynamic to the individual record deals to spread their reach, to lexicon that is still relevant to this day in hip hop and pop culture, clothing brands in major retailers and their own stores, multiple personas of the members, intertwining movies and music, video games made after them, RZA doing movie scores, tons of movie appearances, TV show hosts, etc etc. While there are bigger bands, IMO no one has come close to having the impact on their genres' culture than Wu-Tang had.

Wu is such an important part of hip-hop. They influenced so many people plus RZAs way they did it was such a smart idea. Pretty much all of the members of the wu held their own but together they could hold a building.

I've been a huge Wu Tang fan since I first heard 36 Chambers in the early 90s, and they ABSOLUTELY have a claim to "most important act in hiphop". But in ALL music?!? Sorry, no way are Wu Tang more important/influential than Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Black Sabbath (both sometimes credit ed with being responsible for Heavy Metal exist ing) or the Beat les (who I don't even like; I've never owned a beatles album... But I can't deny the insane influence they had) Elvis, Otis Redding, MJ, Stevie Wonder, Nirvana. (Even Bowie, Stooges, MC5, PE, Run DMC, Jay Z-! but they're all at least closer to Wu Tang level of influence) You can PREFER the Wu to all the above; I do too, except Maybe Sabbath. But "what I personally LIKE" vs "who's more important/influential" are two different things.

Do you know why I respect the #Wu? They have been together for thirty years. This is unheard of in hip-hop. All the major record labels and crews are marred with wars, finger-pointing and blame games. From NWA to Deathrow to Bad Boys to RocAfellA to G-Unit to Murder Inc to No Lmit. I can go on and on. Wu-Tang has stayed glued. Respect on their name for that.

I love this channel. You've demonstrated for music fans and non-music fans the depths of artistry in hip-hop--a genre that is still maligned by racist commentary or just tossed off by music snobs as pastiche art. You mention some of your videos being taken down for copyrighted material, and I wonder if your meticulous use of samples being less than 15 seconds, along with your videos being clear cultural criticism and commentary, qualify as fair use. Labels and publishers are quick to demand shut downs, but your channel is a vital commentary. I'm loving each and every video.

Great video as always mate. Something you may or not be interested in is the hip hop group Jurassic 5, they were inspired by the Native tongues, particularly De La Soul if I’m right. They have lots of solid albums but their first two are classics. Their debut (self titled) really mixes the 80s and 90s styles quite well with some insane rapping from the group. Don’t know how much content you could make from it but just thought I’d mention it in case it gave you a video to make or at the least a good listen. Love your stuff dude, peace
