My biggest compliment of tri is that the dub is amazing. Anyone that's ever wanted to hear brave heart play during the evolution sequence in English can finally get their wish.

I didn't even know anything about Tri until the hype was already over, lol. I binge watched all six movies when I found out about them and I didn't know anything was wrong until I read comments online. I was just happy there was more Digimon media with the original characters.

Same, I watched tri for the first time in 2019 and thought they were amazing continuations of the character stories that I didn't know I needed. I was surprised that people online really didn't seem to share my reaction.

I binged them during the pandemic when I realized most of them were made free on KZfaq movies. It had flaws but I still enjoyed the series

I feel like Tri started off strong, but then went completely off the walls half way through. Enjoyed them for what they were and honestly they got me to rewatch the series in Japanese which was a net positive.

I'm rewatching Digimon 02 in Japanese with English subtitles and really wished they put the 02 kids more in the Tri movies and showed us how they're doing. Their part in Kizuna felt like I missed a whole gap of their development.

@@thedigiknow Yes! I'm hoping they'll have a tri 02 version. Really want to see their lives as teenagers too and not like just some cameos/supporting roles. Also wanted to point out it's awesome you're in Canada too since most youtubers I know covering anime series are from America. I'm Canadian too!

I feel the same. While i can respectively accept the criticism Tri gets from other members of the fanbase, I personally can't hate it. Also this series marked a huge change for the dub since they started keeping the japanese music. Hearing the dub actors with Braveheart was a treat!

I was excited when Tri came out and it was good and refreshing to see the OG kids again. Granted it was a rollercoaster but I appreciated how it paved the road for more digimon content to show up in the west and I think more people should appreciate Tri in that way

I grew up with digimon, yea I was born early 2000s but watched Tamers, Frontier and Data Squad. But then like in 2012 when the 1999 version came to Nicktoons. I watched it every evening till it was over at 02, then Tri was announced and I cant explained how many times I went to bed late doing research on when it would release, finding leaks and just listening to the theme. Grew up with me and loved it. Yea it has its flaws but I just didn't care, but when Kazuya, the ending hit hard. I'm still planning on getting HD posters of each of the 9 kids with their digimons evolution tree

3:15 I'll probably never get over how at least this aspect wouldn't have been an issue if toei went with the original plan instead of rushing into getting a certain other nostalgic cash cow back on tv instead which faced its own issues which also would have been mitigated if oh I dunno delayed its release half a year while airing tri on tv just a thought

5 years ago I got super hyped for Tri as well, like, a lot. The fact that it was taking so long to release chapters, is the reason I got burned out.. Though, I decided to come back to it this year, and... I love it to bits. What makes it amazing to me, is because, digimon evolutions are bound to the digi chosen and their personalities, you can see how they slowly unlock their full potential, by simply learning more about themselves and realizing life changing subjects, which makes them grow mature, and that, is one of the reasons I love Digimon. It's not only about the bond between them, but also, how they all grow together through these deep bonds, as humans and digimon.. and that's something.. SO relatable. There are so many things we need to fight through nowadays, including conditions.. Seeing them overcoming their weaknesses, accepting their flaws, overcoming personal conditions, was simply.. amazing. Gabumon is my favorite, ever since I was a kid.. And.... Watching that scene between him and Yamato, where Gabumon tries to comfort him.. It made me cry, a lot.. It also made me very happy, showing us that special connection between them, and a side of Gabumon that is, so, so sweet.. Besides that, Tri's ending is one of my favorites... So yeah. I'm super grateful for Tri, for the Last evolution Kizuna movie, and for the current ongoing 2020 series.. It is great to be alive right now, and be able to relive one of my favorite franchises, period.

Same because I get burn out easily having to wait for long period of time. Is why I decided to just watch a show or series once’s it completed. But for Digimon 2020 reboot I can’t. I have to watch it the same day it come out. Before I watch any review videos or comments about that new episode. For the first time ever I am keep up with a show I generally love and feel it is a part of me. When Digimon Adventure came out for the first time I was just 3 years old so not old enough to know which shows to watch. But when the English vision was released on Nicktoon I was able to ready through fall in love with this relatable characters

I can never be mad at Tri because it did my boy Matt proud. Loved the development he got - always felt in line with how I imagined him post-02. Tri definitely has its flaws, but I enjoy it nonetheless. Seeing the dub of the first one in theaters with other fans was so much fun (Agumon's first words were magical, I tell you)! Nice to hear someone else remembering it fondly.

I didn't know about Tri until movie 6 came out, and I binged the whole series, and it was good. I guess if I had to wait between films, I'd have the same opinion as so many.

I watch all 6 part in english last year and i was so amaze by it , i didn’t know they exist until i make a random research on amazon prime and discover those movie i very very like them !!! For me it was the best digimon stuff since season 3 !!!

Man, you got to watch Tri with friends? That is great! I was out of college and had moved away when it came out. I was watching it alone and then texting friends that they need to watch it so I could talk about it! But it got me back into Digimon. Cyber Sleuth, yes. But I also tracked down Data Squad and watched it for the first time. I watched the Japanese versions of the Digimon Adventure and Our War Game movies. I kept a pulse on the franchise and now wear a Vital Bracelet, have a localized Digimon X preordered, and watch Ghost Game weekly with my girlfriend. Tri obviously has its flaws and is far from what I would have done with the characters, but yeah, it probably did a lot of resurrecting. The watch parties remind me of Korra watch parties. It was coming out while I was in college, and we would get together to try and watch it. Season 2's premier had a lot of people watching it that didn't come back by the midpoint of that season. It always sucks when you find enjoyment in a franchise despite the flaws but see how much those flaws turns others away. Critique is obviously always important. But when you loose a shared interest with friends, it feels like a part of you is rejected more so than the franchise. If that makes sense.

I appreciate your points, but I'll always see Tri as a gigantic wasted opportunity. It had so much potential, all they had to do was to come up with a story that made sense, and they failed miserably. Imagine where the franchise would be had they done a decent job, engaged with the original fandom and got some more people interested.

Digimon Tri was awesome to watch. Yeah it had loose ends sure but few things can bring me back to my child hood like digimon. That scene with Patamon telling T.K he might have to put em down if he loses control? Jesus... These movies are great at bringing back emotions you kind of just numb as you get older.

One thing I realized after having recently re-watched Tri is that the dub oddly fixes a lot of the problems that I’ve seen criticisms of. The dub doesn’t fix all the problems Tri has, but it fixes the problems that it can realistically fix

I don't like Tri, but I see how it let Kizuna, the new cardgame and the reboot exist. I dont like Kizuna or the reboot much either, but its nice to have a bunch of people remember and talk about digimon, and I'm thinking of trying out the card game, as I love card games and digimon.

Personally I enjoyed Tri tremendously! It was a dream come true for me. A dream I thought could never come true. Tri gets a lot of hate but I feel that it’s not deserved, due to the struggles the series faced. Specifically the fact that toei was unable to find adequate sponsors for the tv show. Companies were not willing to run advertisements because of lack of interest in digimon. This meant they would not be able to air the series on tv. SinceTri was originally developed as a television series toei had to come up with a solution to this problem. Digimon Tri was then announced to no longer be a television series (which shocked me). Instead they would turn the made for television series into several films (you can pretty much tell). The Episodes of the television series were chopped up with the most important scenes used for the films. This is why none of the movies feels like a true film for example The way the movie digimon adventure kizuna feels like an actual film. (this means that there are probably hours of “loss” Tri scenes that could be used to better tell and understand the story Tri was trying to tell. (If all of Tri was released as an anime tv series including the cut scenes it would solve a good amount of the issues the series has. Ultimately Tri was released as six films in theaters and those six films were released on crunchy roll in episode format. I still love Tri for what it did for the franchise. It meant everything to me at the time of its release. P.s. I also got to see the sixth film in tokyo it was a blast!

This comment is nothing but a long pathetic essay written while high on copium. Sorry, but "Muh feelz" or Toei/Bandai's incompetence at making the franchise marketable again DO NOT excuse the absolute lack of quality or respect towards it. If you're gonna chop up a series into 6 movies, THEN MAKE IT INTO A DAMN MOVIE SERIES, not halfass it completely, leave plot threads unanswered after PILING them over and over, and either ruin establish characters or make entirely crappy, uninteretsing new ones. You're just making up really dumb excuses, and that's just sad. "I still love Tri for what it did for the franchise. It meant everything to me at the time of its release." So you love it for utterly ruin Adventure's reputation even more by throwing more pitiful nostalgia pandering without any care or quality ? Grow up already, and take off those damn rose tinted glasses.

Tri wasn’t bad the problem was they had 25-26 episodes to do a story with a proper closing and we didn’t. Dark Genai case wasn’t solve The dark ocean The original digidestined and mostly reuniting with their digimons in a way The 02 kids why did they ignore them that bad? I’m not a fan of the 02 kids except Ken but their treatment was wrong. Overall happy we got tri it wasn’t perfect but just like you said we got the old cast back

Mirroring what someone else said, I really enjoy hearing you talk about Digimon. It's like talking to a good buddy. I was really excited for Tri. when it was announced but didn't get around to them until right before Kizuna came out. So I was lucky enough to watch them all at once. One thing I really enjoyed about Tri., plot-wise, was the exploration of having to sever ties between a Digi-destined and their Digimon. I had just re-watched 02 and the original Digi-destined really had a hard time forgiving Ken for killing Digimon. And watching the Digi-destined struggle with figuring out ways to save Meicoomon but ultimately realizing she couldn't be saved and take away a Digimon from another Digi-destined no less, is powerful. It forces the kids to face how harsh reality truly can be. And I thought it was a good concept to have them continue "coming of age".

I've only seen the sub, and I know a lot of people didn't like Tri. I enjoyed it. I watched the sub when they were released and while sure, It has it's issues. I was happy to see characters I grew up with (having watched both the original dub while it was airing, and sub years later before Tri released) back, and growing up. Kizuna made me cry and I normally never cry during movies. I still have a lot of questions. but I wanna see more. Adventure is great and tri made me hope to maybe see a sequel to Tamers or Frontier.

I got into Tri around 2018, at the ripe age of 32. I bought the movies as a box set, and I loved it. Did I understand half of it? No, so I had to go back and rewatch the original series, and then rewatch tri. It's far from perfect (nothing is perfect, afterall), but my complaints are outweighed by a landslide of everything else that I loved.

I adored Tri. I remember initially hearing about it happening, but either not seeing the result, or not hearing good things about it lol. But during the Pandemic, I burst back into the Digimon fandom. I watched Tri in it’s entirety one night and it was by far my favourite part of the pandemic. The criticisms are obvious; they put Many plot points out there and only followed up on a couple of them. And that’s upsetting. But all in all, seeing my favourite Digimon with updated artwork, better fights, new Digimon, seeing the cast as teenagers and being able to relate on a higher level….. the experience is unrivalled.

To me, Tri seemed to suffer from not knowing what to do next. And it started at movie 4. Movie 6 should've had Ophanimon and Rasielmon. Magnadramon was only a thing because Gatomon didn't have her tail ring

I understand people’s frustrations with Tri since it took so long to come out. However, for me personally it might be my favorite Digimon series. I’m not talking that it’s the best narratively, but more so the feeling it gave me. Seeing the characters I grew up with slowly enter adulthood really left an impact on me. I also fully believe that without Tri Kizuna wouldn’t have worked nearly as well as it did.

You know what I would actually like to rewatch it as a tv series episode by episode not as six movies and see how I feel about it as a SEASON of Digimon compared to adventure, 02, tamers etc! You’re probably right and it’s probably higher ranking than I’d imagine

As someone who kinda fell out after the five movie but rewatched all including watching Last Evolution, I was happy I saw it in full a second time. It's not the greatest but as someone who is not incredibly in love with Adventure I enjoyed seeing the characters again and loved action as well as some of the character stuff. Especially in movie 2 which is my favorite as it was absolutely amazing seeing two of my favorite OG characters get the spotlight in a good way. Aside from movie 2, I like all of them with different levels of enjoyment and annoyance except movie 5 which is trash in my opinion. Aside from that the best compliment I have is it lead to those amazing Digimon Tri abridged movies on KZfaq. I don't recall who made them but the comedy in those and the way they added nitpicks into it made me feel so validated with my issues but also made laugh so hard. Especially what they did with Daigo. Went from a pretty alright guy who I was sad to see die into the biggest memorable character who just stole the show with how little of a fuck he gave.

I enjoyed Tri for sure it was very emotional it really got me sobbing at certain points from the score and scenes but yea I wouldn't say it was absolutely amazing perfection. I was kinda outraged by the last movie they did Meicoomon dirty and I personally believe they should've saved and cured her rather than kill her (especially since dark Gennai got the evil coding anyways so like, it's removable) and it left her partner alone and honestly the fact she left the social group moving to a new house away from the apartment complex where she already had an absent father and mother who didn't seem to interact with her much had me really worried for her mental health, I genuinely worried that she may have ended her life when there was those few seconds of phone ringing cause well moving away from support group, self isolation then phone ringing and taking a few moments to answer I thought it was going to go to voicemail and reveal she was no longer with them much like how losing Tapirmon sent the old digidestine over the edge. Also Agumon being like "lol you'll always be our friend" left a bad taste in my mouth like yes let the alive digimon partner tell the digidestine who just lost her digimon that you'll always be friends when that digimon took part in killing Meicoomon and if you're ever with that group that's all you'd be able to think looking at them knowing they have partners and you don't. Meicoomon should've gotten the Cocomon treatment rebirth reform healed from corruption bitch, so much for Merciful mode. Maybe I missed something that explained why Meicoomon couldn't be saved but like idk felt like a cop out it wasn't a victory like against diaboramon, it was violent brutal needless torture and murder.

I remember hearing that this was supposed to be a 50 episode show before being a 6 movie series. It would make sense since this came out when toei was really struggling with the failure of shows like toriko and dragon Ball super got rushed out the same year and we all know how thag was at the beginning

My biggest gripe with the series was at how slow and boring it was. Im sure the extended periods between the movies didnt help, but even still, i found myself getting drowsy while watching most of the time. I ended up tapping out of the series by the third movie i think and I never went back to rewatch. I actually forgot about the series entirely up until i saw a clip from it online somewhere. Its so sad, because my hype for the series was through the roof.

I do have a certain love of tri., especially with it and Cyber Sleuth sort of reigniting Digimon as a thing. My only honest complaint is just all the loose ends that go unresolved, but I have the same complaint about 02.

The only problem I had with the last evolution is more of a personal problem... I was expecting ty and Matt to merge with their Digimon. Like frontier. I was hoping those final evolutions where them merged together. After the battle Matt and ty wouldn't be able to find agumon or gabumon until Jen I explained that they are a part of them.

I mean, I get that they didn't want to have too many characters at once but they could at least have showed the 02 kids faces. Other things felt off to me about tri too. Like, why didn't they show the picture of them sitting on the bus together as kids in the digital world? it was always glared out. Why didn't they show the kids from 02 AT ALL? I almost felt like there was a copyright issue the divergence from 02 was so bad. I was also really excited to see Tentomon's ultimate Evolution but that never happened either. I kind of felt like it was supposed to happen when he pushed to make him on into the portal. Lol but other than that I enjoyed it even if it was kind of drawn out and and muddled story wise.

Damm i was like 21 back then when tri came out and Cried my eye out as soon as i heard the opening Butterfly. We just had very high hope for Tri and it couldnt meet with that expectation. I am still remembering, around that same time also Starwar and Dragonball were announced get the sequels like Tri and i was like Man isn't it great to be alive in these times :D

ok my question is the original ending of Digimon g1 and g2 (ty and davis groups) created a world where every human had a Digimon!! but tri erased that! it's always erked me and i want to know why they did this!

For all the issues it has and although kizuna made me like it less I still like tri.Seeing tentomon sacrifice himself and patamon realize he's infected still makes me cry.There are many honest criticisms but the fact is that tri saved the digimon franchise after fusion had nearly killed it.Tri may have been better of though releasing as episodes. I would have liked to see more scenes were the characters interacted but tri did give birth though to my Joe and Hatsune Miku ship so for that as well I am indeed grateful.

Agreed! And wait...do people think that Joe's girlfriend is Hastune Miku?! I know a bit about the Miku x Digimon Tri crossover. Is that theory a thing? If so that's the funniest thing I've ever heard

I literally just spent 9 hours watching 1 to 6... I must say, I enjoyed it. Some life lessons. Only thing I hated was that Meico girl always crying about her dumb cat digimon. It was cute at 1st but it got to repetitive.

I too burnt out on tri after the second movie. Just a few days ago I finished Digimon tri and last evolution. Travis free on KZfaq. I'm still confused about why Gennai was evil or if that even was Gennai at all. Also having Gennai act all perverted and murder hungry in Tri was a bit too much. Having him suddenly appear as a good guy again in last evolution was a bit confusing . Having the one villain lady get left in the dark ocean to get raped by a bunch of lovecraftian demons was a bit much too. I know it doesn't say rape but they're looking for a "bride" and that pretty much implies forced intercourse. She may have been a bad guy but I don't think anyone deserves that. It was just a little too dark at points. Also the way they did the 02 characters in Tri was completely unforgivable.

Tri did ignite that flame of Digimon... but it still fell pretty bad. Like more than the original (if we ignore most of the Devimon and Etemon arcs and just focus on Myotismon and the Dark Masters arcs) but still the writers should have tried with Tri. It's supposed to be done better for the stake of being the "third" adventure story. Part 1 and 2 were good with some (eyes Taichi) problems, Part 3 is SIGH... I'm mixed but yea, Part 4 is a waste of time, Part 5 left me scratching my head harder and last part is like a SLAP in the face. Thanks Tri... but I'm glad it became a thing.

Digimon is still great, but i couldnt help noticing that tri and kizuna was just the golden digimental movie, they couldnt come up with any new ideas

Digimon has expectations I think digimon just needs a squad assigned to it because of how much is going on. There are a few animes that can over shadow digimon and hearing that team work happens more often in it where it started stranded kids with monsters isn't drawing max. That's why the reboot is epic they're now stranded tri is to be scheduled in but I believe fans that ever watched will watch every piece of content for digimon

Uhh... The plot and the scripts are literally about the characters. So... No. What you love is the plot/scripts, because the shit you love IS contained all in that. Writing is EVERYTHING when it comes to stuff like what you love about characters and such.

What a pathetic disappointment Tri turned out to be. Character bastardization, cramming too many plot threads that went absolutely nowhere, boring and uninteresting new characters (Maki and Daigo COULD have been good), no clue on who the hell the villain is supposed to be and what their goal is, shoving aside anything related to 02 like a leper in favor of cheap nostalgia and logical gaps. I feel you're just sugarcoating it out of nostalgia memberberries. If anything, Tri did more damage to Digimon AND the Adventure series than anything else. Last Evolution Kizuna was decent, but it was too little too late.

Hated all the forced drama bullshit and then forcing in the “you WILL lose your digimon as an adult!” Just felt horrible and mean spirited. Tri and Kizuna are insults to the original series and clearly don’t understand the original heart of the series

Maybe it’s because I never really connected with Adventure and I don’t really care about Taichi and co, I’m more of a Tamers and Frontier fan, but I legitimately hate Tri and the endless focus on solely the 01 nostalgia Nothing they brought in with Tri or even Kisuna worked if you ask me, these don’t even feel like the versions of the characters we even got in 02, and frankly the fixation with Adventure is beyond tiresome. Last Kushina didn’t work for me or my friends either, and I legitimately cannot bring myself to care about the 2020 Taichi and Yamato show featuring Takeru. Can we just stop with Adventure and do something else? Like oh I don’t know, Revisit Tamers? Reboot Frontier? Bloody hell, give us an animated OVA for Cyber Sleuth for god sake. I don’t care at this point what they do, just as long as it’s not focusing on Adventure 01. I feel like if Digimon is going to stay relevant, they need to get away from their obsessive milking of the Adventure 01 cast and characters. It’s beyond stale and needs to stop.

They will never reboot Frontier as it is really hated and Tamers could never sell as much as Taichi and co so why bother? Blu-ray sales prove this 02 outsold Tamers. Cyber Sleuth is BANDAI NAMCO and not Toei-anime so that will not get an OVA. 2020 reboot is what is need to get Digimon back on the map it will keep it relevant hence all the promotions and marketing that are happening around it. Digimon anime hasn't been doing very well so I can never see them wanting to risk making something that flops. Kizuna did amazing in sales in and outside of Japan so Adventure is here for a long time like it or not.

@@TaiKamiya101 So what digimon needs to stay relevant is to endlessly milk off Taichi, Yamato, and Omegamon? Fucking hell, no wonder this series has become so stagnant. People refuse to let go of 01 and frankly that is a problem. Not every fan of digimon got into this franchise because of 01 or even sees it as good. You cannot keep catering to the same audience, it simply isn't sustainable. You need to bring in newer audiences to keep a series alive. And them playing it safe as much as they have been is not really gonna bring in new audiences. Hell even the nostalgia pandering is not really settling well with the people who did grow up with Adventure. Tri was panned for how shit it was, I've heard plenty of dislike for the idea of the digimon going away that Kisuna added (also people seem to generally dislike the Bond evos we got), and even with the 2020 Taichi and Yamato show featuring Takeru I've seen a lot of mixed feelings with some of the ideas and the overall pacing and execution of the anime. Especially with how fast the evolutions have been and the lack of participation from the other kids not named Taichi, Yamato, and Takeru. And that's not even mentioning the lack of a real story going on here. Also answer me this, if Frontier is so hated, then why are they including the 10 Ancient Warriors in the most recent batch of V-Pets, the Z-Pendulums? And no, the 10 are not like secret digimon you can unlock by linking devices or some shit, they're part of the main selling point for these particular V-Pets.

People don't let go of 01 because that is what people want to see. "You need to bring in newer audiences to keep a series alive." Frontier is really hated as the sales show that if you look. Just because 10 Ancient Warriors were in Frontier doesn't mean they can't appear elsewhere and the reboot shows us this. Like I said if you don't like it you are not being forced to watch. Kinda simple. 2020 is doing amazing and will be here for a really long time. Heck a sequel is most likely planned already. so I suppose if you don't like well just don't watch because no one will care. I work in the Film industry and companies will not risk throwing money at something that isn't going to work. Also I don't think you understand how niche Digimon actually is overall.

People lost interest with how long it was taking and how poor the product became, especially in the latter half of it. The characters are boring, the action is repetitive, Tokomon has had more dialog than Takeru, Hikari is apparently just going to get teleported to the giant turtle in the digital world her brother is on because of the plot, and the other kids have spend how long basically playing battleship and struggling against far weaker digimon? And most important, what even is the story at this point? Ya can't just have endless action set pieces and nothing else, it gets dull and becomes a chore to sit through, even for kids. I honestly do not think this reboot is going to have the sort of staying power or longevity it needs to retain a new audience. Yes but I think you missed the point of what I was saying; if Frontier is so hated (despite the fact that it was Xros Wars that nearly killed Digimon) then why have we been seeing Frontier digimon lately? In the Reboot we have Calmaramon and Velgamon showing up and these 6 new V-Pets have the 10 Ancient Warriors in them, on top of Susanoomon being unlockable. Clearly there is some interest in Frontier if they're making these decisions. Yes the Reboot just has them as generic henchmen to Devimon/possibly MoonMillenniumon (still no idea what is going on with him), but why did they pick those two specifically and not some other antagonistic looking digimon? It's not like there is a shortage of them. Don't get me wrong, I know Frontier is flawed, like very much so, but I think it has a better foundation to work with, especially with the main conflict being this feud between the higher powers of the digital world. If anything needed a reboot to fix the issues of the series and remake it, Frontier deserved it more than 01.
