Digimon World | Guide | The Basics of Evolution

The most important stuff about the evolution system of Digimon World 1 condensed into as short of a video as possible. This should cover all the basics and even some bugs and exploits.
There is actually one other thing to this whole system that the video does not mention. The game is intended to prioritize giving you different Digimon that the ones you already got before, but this mechanic is not working as intended. Explaining it in detail serves no purpose other than adding more confusion as the results are not what the developers actually intended.

Man, your video finally uncovered 20 years of mistery for me in this game. I'm mindblown, I'll play the game again ASAP on my PS1 I'm flabbergasted

I remember playing this game at a sleepover, with my younger brother, and a couple of friends. We forgot a memory card, so we played without one. I managed to get a Metalgreymon on the first generation, but was totally just shotgunning it as a little kid. I would not get another Metalgreymon for a long, long time, not until I was older, and had access to a guide. Sometimes I wish I could forget things, to be able to play fresh once more, but then I remember just how obscure all the mechanisms are in game, and I am thankful for guides being available, especially your own.

After fifteen years of playing this game, I finally discovered why it didn't always progress to what I wanted, I always thought that training while hungry (Just once) counted as a mistake

Well, it can if the hunger ran out after the training session though if you remain hungry afterwards it's 100% fine.

I always wondered why I would get Centarumon all the time. I found it so frustrating and I first started playing this game 20 years ago 😅

When I was a kid I was able to get only a few ultimates (metalmamemon, metalgreymon and andromon). Usually my first partner was the one getting the ultimate evolution. I miss the no internet years when things like digievolutions were a complete mistery 😅😂

Got back into the game last year and watching your glitch/bug videos really helped to understand a lot. Made the game very exciting in a new way. And considering I was a PAL player back on release, I never got to finish half of the game so this was especially satisfying to finally tie up loose ends.

I started playing World recently after spending years avoiding it because I thought it was a very intimidating game. It helps that I got into the vpets a few years ago and understand some basic mechanics from them. But these videos have been amazing help with understanding concepts that even the official player guide is lacking in advice and tips on. I also appreciate that you don't try to game the algorithm by stretching out the explanation into an 8-10 minute video. The side bar with the information and the controller is also wonderful.

I feel you. With all the confusing mechanics that make it look like stuff happens randomly it's shocking to learn the evolution system is fully deterministic.

I was a pokemon gamer where an evolution requires are, not too much. Then I played this game and got flabbergasted when my agumon evolved into centarumon. I was like "IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE GREYMON IN THE SERIES!!??"

This game is so charming but also so opaque. If there was a npc to explain this and a chart in game it would have been a universal classic. I cannot understand why they made it so hard to understand

There is something I never really understood. Many times I was unable to make a Digimon evolve to the ultimate level, not even in Vademon. They simply die at champion level as they reach 15 days of age. Why does this happen?

You are born with a lifespan of 360 hours (15 full days). Every hour (and an extra check every 4th hour), the game checks your current happiness. Depending on how happy you are, the game reduces your lifespan. The reduction can range from 1 hour to 5 hours. If your happiness is low, you age way faster than 1 hour each hour, so your real lifespan usually ends up a lot lower than the full 15 days. Happiness is extremely important and as I said in the video, it's good to keep is close to maximum, even if an evolution doesn't require it and even for discipline requirements it's good to favor happiness instead and only focus on discipline later on. It's very much possible to miss getting old enough if you're just barely hitting positive happiness most of the time.

Hello Geta92 i have a question sometimes there is a weight glitch in which the digimon loses weight from one moment to another you have some info about that im playing the USA version btw happy new year!.

If a Digimon whose sleeping time schedule spans midnight and whose final hunger status of the day is the next in schedule sleeps, the hunger status will instead be applied to the intended hour of the next day, resulting in a day of no hunger at all. During that day, they won't ask for food but their weight will still drop to 1 really fast due to the lack of food. TLDR: Sleep at a bad time and your Digimon's weight drops because it forgets to ask for food.

@@Geta92 XD interesting but i didnt do any mistake of the ones told before since it's my first ultra digimon (andromon). I usually make him sleep when he asked me but as you said I remember it was a no food asking day. This was a gameplay i retake from like 3-4 months ago so maybe I made him sleep and didn't notice he was asking me to eat might be a reason as well?

@@matiastamayo4191 Did it maybe happen on the very day your champion evolved to Andromon? This issue might happen on evolving as well, not just sleeping. Do you remember what the previous stage Digimon was?

@@Geta92 he evolved from a Centarumon well i think the mystery is solved now, I was a bit traumatized with this and had to check out stats from time to time 😭😃

Yes. The game continuously removes lifespan from your Digimon over time. The lower your happiness, the more it removes each cycle. Since this is a process that always slowly takes place in the background, it is not a problem to be unhappy for short periods of time but it's a huge issue if you are unhappy for multiple hours or even days. This is why I wound advise anyone from fulfilling discipline requires as late as possible to avoid life drain from low happiness. But if you can keep happiness high while having discipline high as well, it's no issue.

@@Geta92 thanks a lot geta. When i was young i want to have a one digimon with a lot of age. Since i watch your videos i Know alright i can do it with glitch like continuos evolving in brachiomon. Now if i want to do with a legal form i think biyomon > birdramon > airdramon > megadramon > sukamon > etemon. What do u think?

@@hernangraziano4248 You could live even longer by going for a path that has ultimate slide-evolutions. Champion slide-evolution do not add lifespan. (MetalGreymon/Megadramon > SkullGreymon > Sukamon > SkullGreymon) or (Mamemon > MetalMamemon/Giromon > Sukamon > MetalMamemon/Giromon) both yield a maximum possible lifespan of 27 days without glitches.
