I wasn’t sure why this tribe was called the Solids, but I realize now that it’s because they’re all about defense. Their fortress is impenetrable, their leader never goes to the battlefield, you could even argue that the enemies favoring ailments could be them doing a more defensive strategy where they wear you down and make you easier to deal with

Epic battle was remixed into Sho and Miniazuki's theme in P4AU. Meanwhile Heroic Battle turned into Shadow Labyrs' Theme (Shadows of the Labyrinth). Also, it has one of my favorite Junpei quotes. Junpei vs Shadow Labyrs: _"Uh, guys...! I think I brought a bat to an axe fight here!"_

Time for a Citadel Siege! 5:31 Reminds me that the Soma Cruz Castlevanias, or at least Aria of Sorrow, have a soul that will let you eat food that would normally hurt you. I feel like “Don’t taunt Archangels” should just be life advice. 23:43 Unfortunately for Serph, as they are a JRPG protagonist, they are not allowed a jump button. 25:59 Heat pulled that out of his mouth?! 28:29 Well that tells us when this was recorded. 33:51 Yup! It was used in the climax of Solid Snake vs Sam Fisher, a pretty beloved episode from one of the earlier seasons. Didn’t think Omoikane would be the Metal Slime, but they are a neat demon, so I’m glad that they have a unique role here.

5:31 Yeah, that one is cool and occasionally useful. 23:43 Unless it's Ni No Kuni, which rewards you with a totally pointless one in a sidequest. (Although having certain monster allies jump is way faster than letting them walk, which is sometimes useful in battle) Omoikane is cool, but sadly you can't practically kill them until insanely late in the game.

16:45 Yup it's in EO and also works off of "dealing half damage dealt back to yourself". Generally a small comfort since enemies that use it tend to come late so all they need to do is attack first and your optimized DPS kills themselves due to a change in circumstances you couldn't have seen coming. This is a bit random, but I LOVE the sound design on Serph's pistol. Hearing the shell casing eject makes it feel far more in line with shooters of the era rather than... anything you'd hear in an RPG.

The best part is remmenbering how funny and weirdly sassy heat is. Like yeah, he is de the edgy boy, but his animations are just kinda goofy, and a lot of his dialogue is just some dumb quips that sound funnier comming from him. One of the my big sore points with the game is how little character moments we get for such a good cast. Honestly heat and Argilla are some of my favorites starting party menber in any jrpg. They bounce of each other so well, it just makes me want more interactions

Heat has really good dialogue, yeah. But also this isn't really a "bonding" RPG, and I kinda like the brevity in the cutscenes. They're all exactly as long as they need to be, no more.

Examining the door will give a message saying you sense a very strong presence on the other side (it's worded very differently than the Gyu-Kis), so you won't walk into the fight without meaning to.

It's so crazy how this game was supposed to be mainstream and yet persona 3 became the breakthrough for Atlas. Also you're wordings should be a highlight reel for this LP. I can only imagine how many we'd see

For Heat, I would think magic probally? I dont think his magic stat is that bad but its deffinently not as good as his strength stat.

You can technically go into the physical Mantras with her, it just won't give her any more Strength. And farming Strength Noises is hard.

I'm honestly not sure why they put the Demi-Fiend here of all places (the poison gas, maybe), but I'm glad its early enough into NG+ to not take too long to reach... although since level resets on NG+, you probably have to wait until far later to actually fight him.

10:15 Stun greatly reduces accuracy for all offensive skills not just phys attacks, and reduces evasion rate to 0, in this game. Stun is preferred by speedrunner since on a support character, since it is relatively easy ailment to inflict on a target with the use of Muscle Drink, and there is virtually no down side while preventing the Sleep + Calm Death wombo combo from ending a run in the final dunegon. 18:55 Combos are affected by buff/debuff in both DDS games. With attack buffs, the combo will output more damage, and to an extent makes them less likely to miss though most combos have a very high accuracy to begin with, Speedrunners do apply buff/debuff in bosses before initiating combos when applicable. The initiator's current buff level is used during the calculations. Most Magic combos in this game, however will ignore accuracy buff/debuff, even while Stunned. This fact was abused in my sub-20 min DDS super boss run, to prevent being inflicted with certain ailments.

10:15 Ah right, THAT's why you want Stun. Avoiding Eternal Rest (I still hate the name Calm Death, Eternal Rest is so much cooler). And yeah, I kinda figured it worked that way. It shows up often in the Demi Fiend battle, but you usually Salvation it away before you attack. 18:55 Okay, so I got that wrong here. Except for accuracy? Also you're the one who did that Demi Fiend fight, nice! I've heard the low time fights take a lot of luck though.

If this game and Digital Devil Saga 2 were to be remade/remastered, one thing that could be really beneficial would be a passive skill that prevents enemies such as Omoikane from running away. Omoikane does show up in Digital Devil Saga 2, but they work completely differently from how they work here in Digital Devil Saga 1.

I feel it'd be hard to implement something like that without making Omoikanes too easy. It's a hard thing to balance.

One possibility would be to put the passive skill that prevents enemies from running away on one of the 'special' mantras that you unlock by defeating optional bosses and another one is that the skill only works if the equipper is part of the active party.

4:04- TECHNICALLY it does as it says "attacks." Just didn't specific it was for "normal" attacks and not "skill" attacks. That's my reading into that wording anyway. It's correct, but in a very vague technical way and wished the wording was specifically "triple critical hit rate for basic attacks." 18:08- Didn't really there was so much back and forth for how status effects are classified in the series. 19:34- I could see a cumulative method working here too. So if we had like +3, -2, & +1 for party buffs, the combo would treat the damage as +2 since 3 - 2 +1 would equal 2. Though I still the the method here for combos, since it means you actually have ways to deal damage if everyone is at max attack debuffs given how long Dekunda takes to get. 22:08- "Now I can get my crow eating re[venge]." - BigKlingy 2024. 24:05- Wait hold on, this room layout feels familiar. Is this general area where the Super Boss is hiding? [29:08- Thanks for confirming it, though once I noticed the gas, the music, and the hexagonal design of this area, I realized it was indeed that spot.] 26:09- Don't worry Klingy, you're fine; I've heard people say worse. Xp 30:41- Sadly still an upgrade of most things we're forced to eat in this world. Well baring whatever people used to eat before all of the demon stuff happened (stupid question for outside this context, but did they even eat before that starting event in the game or did they only learn the sensation of hunger/need to eat once they started to gain emotions/demon powers? I could see the latter having a non-zero chance). [EDIT: I'm a major idiot; Totally forgot what the healing items were in this game. That said, like Rohan's take of it where the food was just there before, but the demon transformation actually made them care about what they eat now too.] 37:22- Why does it have so many repels already?! Game, it's only the third dungeon. 37:29- "Oh I love it when they get frighten since it means we get to have *Roast Beef!"* - BigKlingy 2024. 39:04- Wait, it was the Mitama that were the Metal Slime enemies for this game? It's this demon? That's a really odd choice for one. 40:50- Well that saves me the trouble for needing to write that one down. lol In other news, with the shorter comment here today, you can tell I'm tired and will be busy again tomorrow. But at the very least, during this in-between I have pretty most most of Chapter 7 done for the TTYD remake. Will get that chapter done soon.

Probably has something to do with the many different sub sets of ailments as well. I did think that area looked familiar as well because of the super boss as well. I have probably seen a lot worse too. They probably did eat before but it probably was very bland food and the food they are eating now actually tastes like something. You also end up fighting a lot of enemies in Persona 1 that are immune to most magical attacks as well since stuff like Divine, Fallen and Night races are generally immune to that unless it is light attack against those last two and a dark attack against the Divine. Now this is awkward for me since I can't eat beef because of my religion. An interesting choice since I am used to Omoikane being a low levelled Persona. Good to hear that Chapter 7 is going well for you as well. As for myself, I did test my new headset and the results seem good but I am worried that some people are going to think that my voice sounds worse now since it is very different sounding. I also did another one make event in Gran Turismo 4 in the Shelby Cobra Cup and it was pretty easy for me but there is a good reason for that. Normally, this event can be a little tricky since the opponents all use Shelby Cobras and that car costs around 500,000 credits which is quite a lot so you are probably better off buying a Shelby Series 1 which costs 180,000 credits and then you tune it for handling to counter the Cobras since it isn't the easiest car to handle due to its very high power, low weight and 1960s suspension and handling. In my case, I want to use the Shelby Series 1 for more events like the next endurance race so I fully upgraded mine and used a tune from the guide and it is really fast once I got the hang of it so I easily beat the opposing Shelby Cobras and won a Shelby Mustang GT350R as my prize. Now that I am comfortable with the Shelby Series 1, it should be more than strong enough for the El Capitan 200 Miles endurance so the next challenge is to find those 2 hours to complete it. As for TTYD, we started Chapter 4 and that has been going well as the enemies aren't too bad with our setup. We did run into an Amazee Dayzee as well but it fled once it got its turn since Clock Out didn't work but we did get the tattle. Atomic Boo was pretty easy too thanks to Power Lift and something funny is that we are better at using Power Lift's action command now then in the original considering I got +4 attack my first time using it which is something my brother hasn't seen before and then my brother got +4 defence his first time using it. We also beat ??? pretty easily as well and that ends the chapter...or does it? Next time will be the aftermath of that battle. Also my brother beat his friend in the Nuzlocke today as well thanks to a baton passing Gorebyss and a terrifying Slaking and Kyurem White due to abilities being random.

@@BerserkerRohan Yeah, it's very much because of those sub typings and how some things can fall under multiple categories. As soon as I saw the area that we dropped into, I suddenly got an ominous feeling of Deja Vu and began to slowly realize where we were. Took me a bit since I didn't think the Super Boss location would be in the third dungeon of a game (but then again, Command Mission's is technically at your hub, so maybe I shouldn't have been surprised by this). That sounds more likely with their food situation. ... Also I'm an idiot, I forgot what the healing item of this game was called, so never mind. That I remember you talking about when you were playing through P1. I think it was either Lilim or Lilith whom you had that just had a million & one nulls that made them a very viable Persona for a long while. At the very least, it's an established character here eating beef and not a custom character you made that' supposed to be you that's eating the beef. Meanwhile I'm not really used to Omoikane, or at least in this form since my first time really noting him was during SMT IV where he has a RADICALLY different design compared to the non-evil brain Andross look that he normally has. Thanks. Happy to hear you got the new headset, but here's to hoping it works well and doesn't hamper your quality. Hopefully it's just a case of not being comfortable with something you just got and it's actually fine once you get used to it. Good to hear that the Shelby Cobra Cup went well for you. Always great in games where the prep work/something helpful for a very difficult part of the game is already done/something you have. Best of luck with the next endurance challenge. Nice to hear things are going well on your end with TTYD. At least the Amazee Dayzee didn't cause a game over. Still haven't found one on my end, so I'll probably be unlucky and face it at the Pit when I'm at my lowest knowing my luck. Though on the note of Dayzee's that was the first time clock out didn't inflict Stop on everything despite performing the action command perfectly against one of them. Kind of wished I knew they actually could resist Stop and was the prelude to my gripes with how status resistances are handled in this game. Good to hear that Atomic Boo wasn't a pain for you guys like he ended up for me (honestly still salty about my run of the fight). Also yeah, I've managed to get a few 4s for Power Lift too for Atk (not defense since I usually prioritize the attack buff of it first). Wouldn't surprise me if they also made that action command easier since Earth Tremor feels easier too compared to what I've in the OG version. Best of luck with the next session. Well done on your brother's end as well. And no shock with how he won exactly as it fits with his MO of breaking stuff in games too. Xp

@@jaredfayette2567 I think I saw this area in a SMT meme video before which is probably why it looked familiar to me. Looks like my theory holds a decent amount of weight. Moon Personas are equivalent to the Night race demons so they share the same resistances so once you get to Level 21, getting Lilim can set you up really nicely thanks to her draining many magical attacks. You can't self insert in this game so that works out for me. SMT4 was a big change of pace for Omoikane. I hope that is the case but probably before I start my next playthrough, I will continue to tinker with the settings and maybe make use of some feedback as well. My first video with the new headset will upload on the 7th if you want to help me with feedback. The Shelby Series 1 seems like a very solid car which is why I decided to go all in and upgrade it to the max. I may use it for the Supercar Festival later as well. It was the first possible encounter that it appeared which was funny. Looking this up, in the original at least, Gale Force has a 60% chance to work on the Amazee Dayzee and sleep has a 50% chance and those are best status effects to go with considering that stop is only a 10% chance. Earth Tremor seems easier to me as well once I got the hang of it as well. As it turned out, that nuzlocke was a very one sided affair for my brother.

OST comparison wise I think I prefer DDS 1 overall, but the best tracks of DDS 2 are better than 1. The hub world tracks of DDS1 and Hunting with all of it's solos just live rent free in my head

Sometimes it feels like SMT has all these different elements/attributes to be different from other JRPGs. Persona 1 takes the cake because it had 14 magical elements. 19:44. In Digital Devil Saga, those aren't reinforcements, they're Seconds from the buffet. 32:52. Personally, I prefer DDS2's OST because the songs are more energetic compared to DDS1's more melancholic and grungy sound aesthetic. But yeah, people throw around the term "iconic" willy-nilly nowadays and it's kinda annoying. It's weird, the song from DDS2 you're playing near the end (which is my personal fave BTW) has different names. Some OSTs and KZfaq videos call it "Heroic Battle" while others call it "Epic Battle"

Meanwhile, I have been making a making a personal Persona bad ending list from least favorite to favorite. Spoilers for the endings and list: Akechi Bad Ending Fail to find the killer ending Maruki Ending Spare Namatame ending Yaldabaoth ending Kill Namatame ending Kill Ryoji ending And my favorite is the accomplice ending (mainly from the P4GA OVA) I consider what happened to Yu in the final episode of the Persona 4 anime to be an anime exclusive bad ending.

30:25 I am not a fan of when they have demon races and they aren’t translated into English , Since the names a lot of the time aren’t actual names, they are descriptors of the aspects the demons within tend to share, Deity race demom are mainly gods for example and Deity is another term for that kind of being. Unless you know Japanese your not getting what’s the theme a demon race like Jirae or Jaki is going for at all, the terms like don’t mean anything to you in that case while Tyrant or Herald might, even before considering how abstract the title is in its original language which would be another barrier.

Yeah I wish they'd come up with better names for the Japanese ones. "Amatsu" and "Kunitsu" make sense to leave in Japanese since they're from Shinto mythology, but others have possible translations.
