From what I can remember, I've specifically searched for the Railay Beach mountains in Thailand (for the last piece) and the first piece are photos of Iceland that I got for free from the Level up resources.

I used a PC desktop, you can certainly use a gaming laptop! I used Photoshop, Nuke and Adobe Maya.

Sorry for the very late reply, never got the notification from YT. I studied at Vancouver Institute of Media Arts :) And I also took the Photoreal Digital Matte Painting course from cgsociety with David Luong. That was 5 years back, now it's un by my good friend Igor, I highly recommend!
