If you are comparing the video samples in this video, use the highest bitrate KZfaq offers you. I have uploaded this video with an average bitrate of 135mbps at 59.940 fps using H.264. I have provided samples of all 7 video modes the microscope provides on all three lenses.
I bought this on AliExpress with my own money! It was not given to me, nor have I had any communication with the company or seller. I needed better magnification for working on electronics, and after looking at many different units, I settled on this one. I have no experience with other units, so my thoughts may not be terribly relevant as I don’t have a comparison point (beyond a magnifying glass I was using before!).
My thoughts on the microscope (good and bad, in no particular order):
• The product manual and assembly instructions are quite good.
• It is budget. The arm is wobbly, and the lenses and imaging unit/screen are all plastic.
• The wobbly arm results in frequently losing focus when the display is touched when viewing slides.
• The frame rates are as expected: 24 fps instead of 23.976 fps and 30 fps instead of 29.970 fps.
• 4k is capped at 24 fps.
• 1080p at 120fps does a slight zoom-in when compared to all other modes (and is slightly darker, likely due to the higher frame rate).
• Bit rates on the video are low. Only 25mbps for 4k using AVC (H.264).
• There is a mono audio track with the video that has no sound.
• No huge difference in picture quality between 4k, 1440p, and 1080p and what little difference there is, maybe due to different bitrates, not necessarily the resolution. (720p is clearly lower quality).
• Includes a power supply that was not listed as included when purchased.
• 7” screen is very usable and clear/sharp.
• Metal base keeps it stable.
• An HDMI cable was included for the HDMI out option.
• Good overall value, even with the specifications seemingly being optimistic.
• No batteries included for the remote (needs 2xAAA).
• No SD card included. I have used both 64GB and 128GB SanDisk Extreme U3 cards with success. If your card doesn’t work, format it in the unit to get the right file system on the card.
My tips for usage:
• Make sure you set the frequency. Using the wrong frequency can result in strobing in some video modes. (eg 50hz using 120fps in a 60hz country will strobe). I have LED lighting in my workspace, so this likely contributed to the issue.
• Use the power button on the display, not on the power cord. Using the one on the power cord can result in lost settings if you have changed anything.
• Use the remote; with the wobble arm, you can sometimes get a bit of softness or blur in pictures when using the button on the screen.
• When working on smaller circuit boards, tape them to the base. The clips had larger projects in mind than flight controllers for drones.
• I will probably use the 1440P video mode to get close to 29.976 fps I edit at.
• Long press the M button on the display to get into the menu. Immediately follow with a short press of the M button to get into the second menu.
Overall, I probably could have bought the slightly cheaper 1080p version. I doubt I would have noticed the difference in quality, but this does come with some extra features that warrant the additional price. The extra lenses and HDMI out, for example. I will likely use 1440p, so I will get some value out of the higher resolution/bitrate it offers as well.
The music in this video is as follows:
Track 1: Lovable Clown Sit Com by Sir Cubworth
Track 2: Pila Pala Paradise by Rachel K Collier
Track 3: Potato Deal by Craig MacArthur
Track 4: Introspective Taal by Aakash Gandhi
