Lord Minty personally Arthurian era had this end itself so no matter what the end was inevitable and had to be done that way. But I hoped they would make a modern era merlin (not the old look one) and Arthur who isn't a prince or something like that u know like 21st century supernatural series.... would have been a hit.

*spoilers* If you look closely, Arthur mouthed "I love you" before saying thank you and dying, I don't have a source but it looked like it and someone else said it was confirmed by Bradley James (their comment was how I first noticed it). He always believed in Merthur. There's also a moment where Merlin sighs after telling Arthur to get some sleep, and it sounds like he says "I love you" (this one is not as sure but it sounds like it).

Supposedly there was a kiss written in the last episode but they took it out

It is difficult to make me cry at anything imaginary or not in my life. Books, movies, tv shows, videos, I barely ever get emotional over them. But when Merlin was saying that he couldn't be by Arthur in battle at the end (a lie to cover up the real reason), and Arthur replied by saying that he always thought Merlin was the bravest man he ever knew, but "I guess I was wrong" (might not be exact line), THAT made me shed a tear because I was like "He is doing this for you Arthur! Nooooo." I waited so long for Merlin to finally tell him he had magic and I like how in the end he accepted it and they really cared about each other so much.

I Cried a lot too! He prefered to be with Merlin his last days and died in his arms😭

@@alexandra040726 If you watch Arthur's lips closely he actually says "I love you" right before "Thank you." But the producers, under pressure from the BBC, edited the "I love you" out. But thankfully they didn't cave in on the innuendo and love eyes between Arthur and Merlin. Edit: It was right before "Thank you" not "Just hold me."

Arthur’s sole reason for falling in love with Gwen was that she stood up to him and did not let him get his way. She was not acquiescent, just like… MERLIN. Since day one. My theory is that Arthur was in love with Merlin but would not consciously let his feeling flourish, as homosexuality was severely frowned upon in the Middle Ages, maybe even more than magic, so he merely projected his cloistered, new found feelings for Merlin into Gwen.
