Welcome Gardeners! A few months ago I received a sweet letter from Katie Candelario, a relatively new Ace Hardware and Garden Center owner, asking if I would be willing to help her get in touch with Proven Winners so she could help provide the much loved Proven Winners annuals to our community. She told me the touching story of her husband working at the store since he was 15 and now it’s their turn to take the reins. Of course I had to come visit and hopefully Katie can provide all of you local gardeners with beautiful flowers next year! 🌸 Enjoy!

This is the first Ace I've seen offering plants. They're off to a great start and everything looks so well cared for. Plants on clearance never looked that good.😂 Maybe they do this already, but music in the garden center will enhance the atmosphere. Gardeners nearby are blessed to have this resource.

I am an hour north of their store. I have driven past on the way to my sons house. I will be stopping on my next trip. Great to have seen all they have to offer! Beautiful garden center! So glad they reached out to you.

The plants at this Ace are very well cared for. The Shrimp plant is eye catching definitely a plant of interest. I love love the Angel Wings so gorgeous! A limelight Hydrangea is on my list of plants to add to our yard . So many plants to love … I want Mexican Primrose too❤️.

So excited to see a local garden center interested in what people want to buy. I have driven by this ACE for years on my way north. (I think it’s grown in locations?) Wish the best of luck to this family. My contribution request would be PW Tunia’s, (any of them), salvias, basils, tomatoes, grasses. I will definitely try to be at the PW event next year. Happy Monday! This is amazing! Here is the one problem I am finding at my local HD and Lowe's. If they are going to be selling Hydrangeas and other plants that have certain soil requirements, they need to sell the necessary planting mix to go with them. I havent seen any in a couple years. Yes, they sell the fertilizers, but to me, where I live, my soil is extremely alkaline and need a planting mix that amends the soil to the plants requirement. I saw that she has Epsoma, in which the BioTone works great for me at planting time. I wish them all the best for starting over with a new and improved garden center🌻

I am in East Tennessee (the Chattanooga area) and Elder's Ace Hardware is probably our number one source for Proven Winners plants.

The Ace in our town is just 2 miles from our house and they set up 2 greenhouses each season. I saw more PW this year than last year and was able to purchase an entire flat of the new sure fire cherry cordial begonias to plant under my oak tree, along with many other varieties. And they were reasonably priced as well. This is a great video Janey and the more PW we can encourage to get out there the better it will be for everyone. You are doing a great service for the community I so look forward to your daily videos. They are so inspiring for sure. Thank you my friend

I've been buying the shrimp plant for several years and just love it. I told the owner the shrimp plant was why I come to his store and get plants. It's about an hour from my house but I always buy several and give one to my nephew as I have him hook on it also. It does good in shade or sun here in SW Missouri. I probably have a dozen blooms on my current plant. Next year I would suggest you do a container plant demonstration at the Ace Hardware store .

What a wonderful video. In Canada Proven Winners is everywhere and I mean from all the garden centers to Home Depot, Lowes etc. It must be so frustrating not to be able to get them readily in your area. I wish this store/nursery all the success in the future. Perennials are the way to go, it's 90% of my purchases 5% annuals and 5% compost.

Thank you, my husband’s story is a testimony to the American dream and I couldn’t be more proud of him. I didn’t say this on camera, but he is first generation American. His parents were immigrants and they raised him on wages of a farm laborer. My husband has truly worked to be where his is today. And of course he is still working hard. I hope you come in and meet him some day!

This is so exciting! Gridley is just a half hour away from me! I’ll definitely be checking them out! What a beautiful ace hardware!! All those succulents! 😍How wonderful of you to feature them! The mosquito fish is interesting. The mosquitoes are just crazy here. When we moved here 2 years ago we thought oh my gosh what did we get into. We’re across from the Sac river and surrounded by rice fields and the mosquitos are rampant 😂 I am eying that limelight! And they have houseplants!! Thanks ladies! On my radar now! 😊

Interesting. PW are a dime a dozen here in central PA. Expensive at the box stores but the Amish farms sell them for so cheap. Supertunias are only $3.25 a piece!

This is fabulous! I would drive from Vacaville to Gridley even now! They have some great plants that aren’t easy to find in Vacaville. BTW: that plant to the left of the Angel Wings is a Powis Castle Artemesia & I have one plant for over 30 years in my front yard. It takes a beating from wind, heat, cold & just does wonderfully for a grey green, soft, poofy perennial. It only requires a once a year prune back & comes back quickly.

That's awesome! I do see the difference when I get PW plants vs others most of the time . But I've only been able to get them when I order thru their website. I'm in las vegas and all the big stores or nursery in our area don't carry PW. Is so sad because they're such beautiful plants.

How exciting! Katie you probably already have the St Simons Island, GA’s ACE Hardware Garden Store on your radar as a model, but just in case you don’t you should check it out! I went there in April and wish I had known about the store before vacationing there and stumbling upon it. I wish there were definitely more ACE hardware garden centers across America!!! Not that you will need it as it looks like you have a great plan, but best of luck with your new business!

That’s so ironic! I was just at the Ace Hardware on St Simons Island 2 weeks ago, on a short 3 day visit to the island. I live 3 hrs away & had heard about the Ace Hardware there so definitely planned a visit while on the island & so glad I did! The moment I got out of my car I knew I was in trouble! Lol I was blown away at its size & quality of plants it had. Needless to say I bought ALOT & had to reorganize my suv keeping in mind I had luggage to make room for (plus our dog). I had a great experience there & will definitely be back.

I didn’t know about that Ace store, I’ll definitely will be looking into this store online. I’m about to take my crew on another outing to go visit other centers as it helps to get some fresh ideas. Plus, its just fun.😊

@@lindylou3519 I made two trips in this store in 6 days. I too had to keep in mind that we had to pack our luggage and drive home. Totally wasn’t planned but I was glad we had taken our truck and SUV otherwise my kids would have had to ride on the roof like grandma in National Lampoons Vacation, but my birdbath and other goodies were safe inside. Just kidding everyone was buckled in there safety belts and had plenty of room! I will definitely go back and leave everyone at home so I have plenty of room 🤣

Just thinking out loud and I’m in Ohio so not familiar with garden centers in your area but would having a section on native plants and native cultivars attract folks by differentiating their nursery from others ?

Hi from San Luis Obispo county. Our HD also gets in a few PW. Luckily I can request PW from our local mom and pop garden center Bay Laurel. They mostly carry Monrovia, Native Sons, Monterey and nonbranded plants.

I'm in Orange County and it's so difficult to find Proven Winners...I don't know why they don't grow them here. I would think they would sell like crazy. I just see the same things over and over, like someone else said, Monrovia and non branded plants.

Please don't spin the camera around so quickly. It triggered my vertigo and I don't want to stop watching your videos, 😢I enjoy them so much. Your good at educating and thanks for sharing what you learned in your Master Gardener 's class. Nice job asking for the name of the Redbud tree when you were on the tour with Michael l was so happy you spoke up and asked. I was hoping he would mention it 's name.Would you go back with your grandmother to the garden you visited with her when you have the the chance? Looking forward to seeing all the beautiful 😍 blooms. Please show your grandmother's and your plants you bought there when they are in bloom. Jason and you are such an attractive couple and work so well together. Your girls are such hard workers and seem to enjoy gardening also. Maybe this will be the family business in the future. Hope you can help get the Proven Winners for the store.🎉 If your parents wouldn't mind, how about an update on their beautiful gardens. You've such a variety of content, it's much appreciated. I hope your new home will have a pool. You are one of my three favorite You Tubers. Janey about her questions on racks for the trucks etc. maybe Laura’s mom (garden answer) would take a call bc they have a garden shop up in Oregon? Laura’s said the name of the shop quite often and ppl order like xmas ornaments they film etc. She’d probably be very helpful on technical questions bc Laura’s mom started her shop small from scratch as well. :D
