Babymetal for a first time listener - should be all three girls. Monochrome LIVE or Megitsune LIVE are always good choices. If they don't like either of these two performances then it is likely they would never like anything Babymetal.

I agree with the Band Maid thing. That band is overloaded with talent…but her vocals ruin it for me. Not because she can’t sing, but because they don’t fit the music - IMO. All of their songs sound like 3 different songs crammed into one.

really? she said the band needs a singer? That singer(Su) and her partners(Yui-Moa-Momo) 'made' this band. Those who know BM know what I mean by 'made'-(great players hidden in Japan and taken to worldwide acclaim). and Dilanna said, Su did 'it incorrectly' (sang w/throat) hah! that's a good one considering Su did it spot on.. Come on, Joel, pick appropriate BM Live videos for first-timers. The best ones to introduce BM are always stated in the comments.

My problem with this reaction has nothing to do with whether she likes it or not. Who cares if she doesn’t like it. But to straight out criticise another artist and say she clearly has no training or technical skills is just not on. Firstly, she’s wrong in Su’s case as is clearly indicated by the legions of fans who praise her voice, and secondly it’s pretty rich to criticise another artist technically just because you don’t like it. She clearly does not understand the distinct difference in style with Japanese vocals generally, and also how much praise is sent Su’s way due to how her vocals cut through the heavy backing metal. End rant! 🤟🏻

You picked a great song. It's one of my favorites. I have to disagree with her assessment. Su has always done a lot of shows and she sings over r a heavy metal band. If she didn't have great technique she wouldn't make it through one show let alone 13 years. Not only that but she has had some of the best vocal coaches in Japan. Her technique has always been great or she would have blown out her voice. Dilana doesn't know what she is talking about. I wonder how she would feel knowing Su sold more records by the time she was 11 than She ever will.

I've watched enough of your videos to believe you really do respect and appreciate Babymetal. That's said as I'm confused at this time by the selection of songs you've chosen-often to introduce people to Babymetal. Like this video to your friend Dilana. Babymetal currently is Su, Moa and Momo. They have already released some incredible live concert footage. Using a 10 year old video with only Su in it is not a fair or I believe honest representation of Babymetal. When there is so much incredible live footage available-and I think the newer more mature vocals are perhaps more "gettable" to the uninitiated an older cut like this one-as much as I love it-is not really introducing anyone to Babymetal. And one more example. You've used the official "Metal Kingdom" to show to several different guests. That too while being Babymetal was Babymetal while they were still Su and Moa. I would have suggested "Metal Kingdom" Live at PIA Arena, Clear Night. It is Babymetal at full strength once again and is just overflowing with the energy and crowd involvement that the official mv just doesn't have. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rspdn9aor5jJY58.html Please consider expanding your Babymetal catalog a little bit. For potential future Babytmetal fans and Babymetal.

Nice try Joel. I tried to think of what Babymetal song Dilana would like and could not come up with any clear one. Maybe Headbanger as there is someone growling? Maybe Sis Anger because it is so brutal? Maybe Babymetal Death as it also is brutal and there is not really singing in that one? But nah, I think The One will miss this Kitsune in their skulk of foxes. She will very likely like BAND-MAID though. The new version of Hate is the obvious choice. Saiki has honed her voice now. After an operation it is said. And the battle is epic!

@@r1learner178 This i kind of problematic for me. I think the original Babymetal with kids is the only really interesting concept. Almost all banger songs and performances are from this era IMHO, lets say 2010-2018. The time with only two members and a rotating third member I find almost uninteresting, although the banger performance of Papaya is an exception. When Momoko became a permanent member they are three again. But, they are not kids and they are not extremely good dancers. It does not feel fun either. The MV for Metali was a banger though. Very good. All this makes modern Babymetal not all that interesting for me. BTW - I saw them live in Stockholm as pre-band top Sabaton. Not all that exciting. Nice to have seen them though.

Hi Joel, lots of people pissed with this one ... 😅 First, I think this version of Akatsuki may not be the best, as IMHO Budokan 2021 is on top, but it's still outstanding, so I actually think your choice was on spot, you've a singer as guest, so you focused on SU and that's fair. Besides I seriously doubt she would have appreciated anything else from that era any better. Second, in my personal experience, SU's voice is extremely polarizing, either you dislike it or you get literally addicted 🤩, no middle ground. Besides, her timbre is pretty unique, as even at higher notes, it's actually way thicker than you may think at first glance. For example Mayu did an excellent version of Megitsune, but compared to SU, there's a lot missing... like a lot. Third, I will never understand why people get so pissed when they got a real reaction, so please keep it as it is. So I don't think BABYMETAL will ever be in her chords, but if you'd like to try something else, maybe Monochrome or Megitsune at PIA Arena, maybe Kingslayer. Anyway, thanks and keep it rollin' 🤘🦊⚡

I know that BM was formed in 2010. Su's vocals have matured since she was 13. She is now 26. Charismatic Voice, who is a vocal coach, talked about the technical way that Su does sing correct. Maybe something she has acquired since the time of the song you played for Dilana. Su does sing in a lower tone in Metal Kingdom for part of the song. Divine Attack, Maya or Monochrome at PIA Arena are more indicative of Su now and Babymetal as a whole. I always enjoy your content.

Never big on several of the hair bands of the 80s but was all about Iron Maiden, Helloween, and others. Not loving Band-Maid but love Babymetal. Preferences. I will say one minor nitpick about her liking deep gravelly voices and not liking Su's higher pitch...so, she doesn't like Judas Priest then? But anyhow, with a one shot for BM to a metalhead, I would always default to Road of Resistance, Live in Japan. That was the one view that turned me from skeptic dismissal to...okay, this band is legit. Power metal does it for me.

@@clivematthews5296 Nonsense, none of them sound anything like her ... and more range and versatility? How many of them had a whole new genre formed around their vocal talents when they were 12 years old (she had no amazing backing band for the first 2 years and they only became the full time support after another 18 months ... she was 16 by then and the funding for the amazing band was provided only after and because she had attracted an audience nobody knew would exist)? How many of them can rap in one song, sing Bollywood/Indian style in the next, middle eastern style, Enka style, ballads, power metal, Latino, pop, and so many more styles and genres and be heard above the instrumentals of an amazing band ... all while doing bespoke choreographed dance? When the Kami Band first started they asked if they should do anything special or different - they were given one instruction - "Play as hard and as loud as you can, do not hold back because they are girls, do not hold back because they are Idols." When they played at the Tokyo Dome she was still only 18 and professional musicians who were there said what they achieved there was only possible because of the unique quality in her voice that meant her vocals carried and reached every corner even right at the furthest reaches of the Dome without any degradation in either volume or quality. When they played with Rob Halford from Judas Priest she matched him for power on his own songs. Vocal coaches and professionals have said how every word she sings is so clear and audible. You may have listened to 15 Japanese vocalists ... I suspect you haven't listened properly to Su-metal - and you saying her being a kawaii performer is her main appeal is proof of that. The kawaii aspect was never a big factor in my own enjoyment of BABYMETAL, it really was the unique quality of Su-metal's vocals and how she made me feel the emotion or meaning of what she was singing despite my not understanding a word of Japanese. I also made no comment at all about Floor.

Yeah if Joel is going to continue to introduce people to Babymetal he at least needs to play a song with the whole band in attendance. Definitely blew this one.
