This was a very enjoyable reaction. Adagio will always be one of my favorite Dimash performances. Dimash appears here in the fifth season of Hunan Television's “I Am A Singer.” “I Am A Singer” is an annual Chinese music competition between famous and established professional singers. The audience phones in to determine the winner after each episode. It is the same throughout the entire show; 500 with musical backgrounds judge the show by points each week. At 22 years old, Dimash was the youngest participant in the show's history and competed against these professional and top-selling Chinese singers as a ‘wildcard’ competitor. The competition consists of 14 rounds, lasts almost 4 months, and competitors are eliminated throughout the season. Every performance is live, and no lip-syncing or auto-tune is permitted. Pure unadulterated vocal ability only. Dimash’s mother later said that he hoped to reach at least the middle stage of the competition. This was the sixth episode of the competition. Dimash had been considered the weakest contestant at the beginning of the show, given that he was completely unknown to the audience. He had been invited as a wildcard and was the first foreigner and youngest person to ever compete in the show. After his first performance (S.O.S.), he became a superstar in China overnight. His Chinese competitors called him their "little imported brother." The other already well-known contestants were in absolute awe of him and joked that they might as well go home. Every single performance of his is insane. He never sings a song the same way twice either so if you see videos from different venues they will always be different. This is one of my favorite performances of his. The song is Daybreak and he sings it in Mandarin. The song is based on a true story about a boy who survived a cable car accident in China because his parents held him up in the air as they fell. The car had almost 20 people inside but the little boy was the only survivor. The woman who wrote the song, Han Hong, is very famous and she adopted the boy after hearing about him. It is a different side of his voice that you haven't heard enough of yet... his very *low* notes. They vibrate through your soul. He's as powerful down low as when he sings very high.
