And Dimash have done a great thing: he understood how we sing those songs, about our mothers, about love and sadness. That is why all the people started to sing along. Cause Dimash do understand us, our music, our souls. If he tried to sing it like... I don't know, in another way, audience just could not sing along. So the main thing Dimash have done in this performance -- he understood how we, Ukrainians, sing our Ukrainian songs. We are singing and crying at the same time...

That was awesome. I have that same reaction with Daybreak from the Bastau concert in 2017. Even before I knew the story or the English translation, Dimash’s performance of it had me bawling. I don’t know if you’ve ever listened to that one but if you haven’t, look up the story first. It’s a true story about a kid who’s parents died in a train car accident and their last act was to push the kid up on their shoulders so the kid survived.
