Not just higher than vitas, but several times higher. Gr8 job. Other contestants would have known that as a foreigner, he would not be able to win, they changed the rule the following year. Dimash came 2nd . Having already developed a huge reputation in his own country, Russia Belarus and few other countries around Kazakhstan. Being invited to take part in this competition was a huge blessing Dimash was absolutely ready to open up to the world and that is what participating in the singer gave him. Cause the Chinese audience (who were the judges, immediately recognised his talent and spread the word of Dimash across the globe - so he won so much more. I believe Dimash responded graciously to the Vitas "noise," saying it wasn't Vitas, it was the producer, and he and Vitas were good friends and supportive of one another. I think he goes up to an E6 in the last run. He's hit a D8 (off the piano) in Unforgettable Day. Vitas only went up one step in his performance. Dimash went up 3 steps. This was part of a contest show in China where Dimash began to be exposed to a larger audience. Dimash was a "surprise contestant." Many of the other people reacting were other competitors. I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 20 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional. BTW the audience is also the jury. During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰. In the Singer version he was so sick and had a severe sore throat and fever. He lost his voice the night before his performance of Daybreak. The Bastau version (no sore throat) of Daybreak is phenomenal and mind-blowing. So emotional and heartbreaking. Maybe you can do both together. Many reactors do and so you can see the difference between this two performances. In both versions I always cry my eyes out. I don’t know why I have to cry more. This performance was only the second episode of the 2017 “I am Singer” competition that Dimash was invited to participate. First episode, he did SOS. I wish you could have seen the longer version of this video where he thanked everyone at the end and finally sees his father in the audience and ran to hug/picked up his father, and asked his father twice, “Did I sing well?” He also said that he’s homesick and wanted to go home. Dimash only knew his father was coming, but didn’t know he was already in the audience. He later admitted in an interview that he wouldn’t have been so flirty with the audience had he known his father was there. How cute. Just simply love Dimash. ❤

Opera 2 is such a fun performance to watch, I love how everyone's faces slowly go from "what's going to happen?", to "What?! How am I supposed to compete against that" in a matter of few seconds, TOTAL DEFEAT 😂. And it's a shame that Vitas (I didn't know about Lionel) basically banned Dimash from singing it ever again. (Smells like jealously to me) But as you said, pity as heck.

The man at the end who pumps his fits is Dimash’s father. He traveled from Kazakhstan to surprise him. Apparently Dimash was struggling being away from home and family for so long. They have a nice little moment in the hall outside where Dimash asks his father if he performed well. There’s a longer version that shows that interaction.

Dimash got shut down by Vytas' manager too. Don't forget, Dimash was only 22 when he sang this song, and 23 when he sang Hello. I wish you had the video that had the Eng. subtitles so you could hear the comments of the other contestants. Plus, the other video showed Dimash being surprised after seeing his father, and how happy he was when he did see him. He told his dad that he wanted to go home, but his father told him that he had the support of everyone. The sponsors of the show kept Dimash very busy making guest appearances, but, I'm sure he was still homesick and missed his family and friends being in a strange place. One guy said Dimash lures the audience and the lady responded with, "Of course, he's very handsome." Another singer said that it was stressful to have to sing after him.

Vitas banned Dimash from ever performing this again. I guess he thought it was good! 🤣❤️🤣
