He had to cancel his tour and did this concert for his Dears/fans. That’s why there was no audience to be seen or heard. SOS is a song in the rock-opera „Starmania“ from 1978. The first who presented this song was the French singer and songwriter Daniel Balavione. SOS was the first performance of the China competition (in 2017) and was his first appearance in this show. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among others. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. When he woke up the next morning after his first performance of SOS he was a megastar in China and even found bodyguards outside his hotel room. SOS’ first video had 600 million views when it aired. Yes, he does do the blue alien song, The Diva Dance from The Fifth Element. My favourite performance is from Dimash’s solo concert, in Bastau 2017. He sings this song better than the blue alien which of course does use computers in parts because it was considered not possible for a human to sing. Dimash sings it live, 1 3/4 hours in, to a solo concert which lasted nearly 4 hours.

I'm a huge Dimash fan, but I don't think this is his best performance of SOS. I much prefer the live version at the Slavic Bazaar. ❤ Just my opinion.

OK, so Blair mentioned the Diva Dance from The Fifth Element, which was produced with digital help. Well, yes, Dimash can sing it, and has done so multiple times. Three of my favorite versions: 1. At Singer 2017, where he replaced the infamous 11-note bar with a string of high staccato notes. 2. At the Bastau concert, where he sang that bar as is, and 3. In a duet with traditional Chinese opera singer Li YuGang, where he replaced it with a whistle note. There’s another version from probable 2015 or 2016, a blurry fancam, where he starts with the same aria as in the movie, Il dolce suono.
