Jeff McErlain's "Take 5: Diminished Blues" course that Corey mentions gets deep into the weeds on diminished sounds. It's exhaustive and exhausting to work through, but I've learned a lot. Corey and Jeff are the two best instructors that I've experienced on Truefire.

I looked up Palmer Music Co. that's on Corey's T-shirt. Turns out it's a music store in Conway, Arkansas, north of Little Rock, within driving distance of Nashville. There must also be plenty of music stores in Nashville, a/k/a Music City.

The terminology for diminished scales and arpeggios can be confusing: half-whole vs. whole half. Then there's the A-hole scale, when you screw everything up and play the wrong notes over the wrong chords.

Great work Corey! Excellent feel and vibrato! What are your thoughts on bar 8 in a 12 bar blues? In the key of "A", bar 8 is the 6 chord (F#7) preceding bar 9 (the 2 chord B7 ) then bar 10 (the 5 chord E7) etc. Thanks.... Neil

Hi @coreycongilio As a moderate player and life long noodler! I understand, for the most part, the relationship in blues between major and minor pentatonic as I solo. Now...I feel that as you explain diminished argpeggios (which for me started with the more recent dominant arpeggio lesson) I can for the most part grasp it as well. The one thing I get hung up on is falling into the mindset (probably lazy) of just using a mixture of maj/minor/blues scale and you are going to be okay. And. Not really worrying about what chord is playing. (But smart enough not to use a major3rd over the 4 or 5 chord). I guess the question, which you are pretty much saying, is using the specific diminished or dominant arpeggios for a chord is just an added arrow in the quiver?
@coreycongilio
@coreycongilio 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ty. Thanks for your question and you can always reach out at my website to for direct questions. I like your arrow in the quiver metaphor. Pretty spot on. The beauty of improvising is that it’s really whatever YOU feel in the moment. Practice and application help you pull it off but, it’s all like adding ingredients to the solo you’re cooking up. Learn what you can and use what sounds good to YOU!
