Can we just pause for a moment to note how fucking amazing Lou Barlow's bass playing is, in this?

Pretty much anytime Lou is playing live is incredible, I'm endlessly fascinated by his wacky chord style playing to a band that sounds like Dino. It's perfection 🥰

He’s amazing almost always, but he is certainly f’ing amazing during this cover/tribute.

I once had a dream where I was at a music festival in Western Mass hosted by J Mascis. The top billed acts were The Drive-By Truckers with special guest Kurt Vile, and The War on Drugs with special guest Jason Isbell. It was a pristine sunny summer day and the festival was held in a remote location full of lush green hills, surrounded by woods and low mountains. J was just milling around in the crowd and no one was bothering him. I woke up before anyone took the stage.

Lord how I miss looking at backlines like that!! REAL VOLUME off the stage instead of mixed into sachrine through a PA!! Give me decibles and warm tube amp sound!!!! Nothing like Humbuckers plaing through JCM 100s and 4x12" cabinets.

And this is Jason's second show of the night. I saw/heard him play acoustic guitar with the Punch Brothers at the Audible Theater from 7-8:45 PM, for their new show, the Energy Curfew Music Hour. They played Lovely Rita as an encore. Video is up on YT at the moment.

I was there that night and it was beyond magical. Of course there will be a temptation to watch J and Jason's guitar fireworks and focus on that (the interplay was mesmerizing), but Jason's SINGING is incredible -- nobody does Neil very well except Neil himself but boy did Jason ever give it a go. So glad I caught this.

@@colegodwin9720 to be fair, at this point so is Jason. I’m more of an Ear Bleeding kinda guy than a Country guy, but Isbell is great. And you kinda have to be a legend to get invited to go toe to toe with J like that. Most everyone that Dino brings on for these anniversaries are legends: Kim Deal Kim Gordon Kevin Shields Frank Black Bob Mould Warren Haynes Al Cisneros Dale Crover Issac Brock Johnny Marr Tommy Stinson Henry Rollins Mike Watt Jeff Tweedy… These are heavy hitters.

Yeah, it's cool to see your favorite musicians play note-for-note covers of your favorite songs, but it's even cooler to see your favorite musicians put their own spin on your favorite sings. At least in my opinion.
