Today's video is quite short, but we visit 2 very interesting locations.
First up is "Jurassic Ark," which is a creationist.... museum? education centre?
Whatever Jurassic Ark is, it is certainly the biggest misunderstanding of science we've ever witnessed. The centre's main goal seems to be attempting to prove scientific theories wrong by utilizing a bunch of half-baked "scientific" demonstrations that have more in common with a school project than an actual experiment; such as artificially creating stalactites as a way to prove that the ones in caves aren't as old as people think.
We don't say it in the video, but it was actually very upsetting, as it's main visitors are school trips - which means that these people are filling the heads of children with absolute nonsense....
Thankfully, the day is saved with a trip to the fantastic Gympie Bone Museum. The bone museum is a collection of bones and skeletons from all sorts of animals and the staff of the museum are incredibly knowledgeable. Every bone in the museum has a story and we'd recommend everyone who can to visit and hear them.

D&B Cycling Australia is a video series documenting our time bicycle touring Australia; a bicycle tour led by our desire to seek out roadside attractions -- everything from the interesting and quirky, to the macabre and obscure.
We had initially planned on bike touring Australia as the first leg of an around the world bike tour, but the Covid-19 Pandemic that struck mid way through the trip forced us to change our plans and extend our Australian cycling adventure.
Thankfully Australia is a huge country with plenty to see, so we'll continue cycling around Australia until it's time to move on to the next adventure.

Bonnie’s commentary of the Jurassic Ark had me in stitches. As a fellow atheist, I can appreciate your disdain for the unscientific BS being promoted there. Great video as always!

Hahaha, thanks! It was such a surreal and awkward experience. It was quite funny, but also sort of infuriating given that they are teaching this stuff to school groups. I really wish we had more footage, but from the moment we got there the "guide" was all over us and wouldn't even give us a moment to sort our bikes out and "decompress" before we went in. I was also having issues with my camera that I was trying to fix at the same time. It was really hectic. Thanks again, Linda!

Another fine production! I don't know why you dont have more views. That Jurrasic Ark looks like hell. I've had experience with zealots like that, I know not to bother..

Thanks Gary! Yeah I think we went to Jurassic Ark out of morbid curiosity. At first we felt like we'd infiltrated a secret organisation, but it went south pretty fast. 😂

I'm surprised that you didn't give up on the Bruce H'way but I guess the only alternatives would add many more kilometres to your journey. I hope you at least get heaps more wide aprons to ride on - safely. The bone museum seems suitably bizarre, though somewhat off the beaten track - or have I got the wrong impression there?

The Bone Museum is fantastic! We loved it! The staff there are really amazing and knowledgeable too - it's one of our favorite museums ever. You're right about it being a bit out of the way though. We had to take a bit of a detour east in order to go, but we think it was worth it.

Perhaps it wasn't clear enough in the video, but we really do have a lot of disdain for the "Jurassic Ark." Their entire shtick revolves around taking well established scientific beliefs and supposedly "disproving" them with bizarre pseudo-science. Their "experiments" are completely flawed and can be easily dismissed by anyone with even a basic grasp of high-school level science (or just common sense). They mostly attract school groups and we found it completely abhorrent that these people would fill the heads of children with such backwards ideas. It really was quite upsetting to witness. We'd like to make it clear that we have no gripe with those of faith, but in this instance; we really do believe this organisation to be a shameless con. Well... We did it so that you don't have to! 😅

Wasn't the author of Mary Poppins born in Maryborough? That truck that passed close to Bonnie was dangerous and rude, not to mention illegal.
@VeloObscura
@VeloObscura 2 жыл бұрын
That is correct! P. L. Travers was born in Maryborough and as such the town has a lot of stuff related to her. 😁 As far as the truck goes - that's unfortunately a daily occurence when bicycle touring Australia. 😕

@@VeloObscura I was going to point out that the creationists have got no idea about fossils and Carbon 14 dating but, why bother? Fossils tend to be mineralized so that the original carbon has been replaced by minerals. We don't use C14 dating for them. Also the horizon for C14 dating is only about 60,000 years.

@@michaelismichael4640 - That isn't even the start of it! The stuff the guy was coming out with was ridiculous. Every 'experiment' was completely bizarre and made no sense whatsoever.

It would be nice if you could put a map of the area up so people who don't live near there could see the general location.

Hi Belinda. Usually every one of our videos has a map at some point, including this one and we do make a conscious effort to show the area we're travelling through. You'll also notice that each video starts with the name of our location as well as the traditional Indigenous name for the country we're on. We also talk to the camera about where we're going. If there was a specific thing you wanted to find out about, you'll also find links in the description to websites for the places we go. Finally, we've created a map of the entire journey, but have not added the link to the video descriptions yet. We didn't want to add it originally, as it would be a bit of a spoiler, but we probably will quite soon as people can always choose not to click it. For now, it can be found on our Instagram profile by clicking the link in our bio. If all else fails, we hope that just telling people that these places exist would be enough to prompt them to type a quick Google search themselves. We managed to find them after all! We don't live near any of these places and aren't even from Australia... We try our best to showcase interesting places, as that's what our trip is all about - finding amazing things to see. Hopefully some of that info is helpful!

@@belindamcguire1293 Thanks! That's very kind of you to say! 😊 I've thought about doing that sort of thing in the past, but could never really get it to fit right. Some of the videos include a map like that mid way through, but yeah.... I've just never been able to get it to fit. I think mainly due to our videos being very "Vloggy." For now I think I'll keep going how we are, but try to include more maps and be clearer about it. I've been doing a lot of thinking about the future and the next stage of our adventure and how that will be filmed and edited. I'm planning on changing up the style quite a lot and at that point there'll probably be space for a big map! Thanks again for the support. It means a lot!
