You made a huge mistake by listening to Bad Valentine while reading bad lyrics. The line is “I thought I told you I would mess up girl, I warned you right from the start”. This song is a follow up to “Now I’m the Fool” from her Old Enough album, which is dedicated to unrequited love. Angelina is the one sitting alone at the table for two. He even tells her she’s so nice she smiles when she’s hurt, which fits Jordan to a tee. These two songs are about the same unrequited love relationship with the same person from two different points of view sung by the genius who wrote and sang them both, Angelina Jordan. She was the one hurt so badly in “Now I’m the Fool” and the whole Old Enough album is the initial shock and hurt from rejection of unrequited love and the eventual acceptance and recovery by the end of the album. Bad Valentine is sung from the boyfriend’s point of view. Angelina Jordan is an absolutely brilliant creative lyricist, while Toby is a master at melody and arrangement. What a magnificent team they make!
