This film was not created by me. It was created by Wah Ming Chang, who is known for his work on the original Star Trek, his creation of the titular Time Machine from the 1960 film, and his work on the 70s television show Land of the Lost. I sourced it from a 16mm copy.

I remember this. My mom bought me this tape when I was a wee little boy. I brought ALL my dinosaur toys into the living room and let them watch it with me.

Though I 100% root for accurate dinosaurs- theres always something so charming about seeing these suto-mammalian lizards roaming around in all of their vintage, stop motion glory

I love documentaries like this. Some of the theories are dated. But it still has value cause it shows how far we have come in paleontology. It also shows something that has been forgotten in recent years. Imagination.

I had this on VHS when I was a kid, it also included the one about early mammals. I still love watching them every now and then, the claymation is just delightful.

7:16-7:44 If anyone's curious, the music during the volcanic eruption is called "Power of Darkness" from the album: *"Sleight of Mind"* by David Vorhaus. It was also heard in the workprint version of *"GRIZZLY II: The Predator"* and a couple of the deleted scenes in *"SUPERMAN IV: The Quest For Peace".*

That’s because it IS Grumpy! The T-Rex model was built for this film and then used for “Land of the Lost”.

Oh man, I had this on VHS when I was a kid! I must have watched it 100 times! I haven't seen it since, yet watching it now I remember it so vividly, especially the music. Wasn't there another part to this, a part about mammals? I'm pretty sure there was, but the only part I remember is a sabre tooth tiger jumping on the back of some big sloth looking thing.

Props to these guys for using a different ceratopsian to fight the T-rex rather than the usual Triceratops this time around. And it's a Styracosaurus too, my favorite of these horned dinosaurs!

Thanks for sharing! The original film dates back to 1970. This version, as stated in the beginning of the film, is the 1986 revised version.

Actually, at 0:13, it is Megalosaurus and Iguanodon; similar to how Gideon Mantell's Megalosaurus and Iguanodon looked like.

The last third of the tail wasn’t known back then, so they based their reconstructions on Allosaurus which had a proportionally longer tail.

I had a vhs with this on it as a kid around 1992 and I watched it so many times I practically knew it by heart, even though I knew it was hilariously dated even then. It's amazing how far we've come from something like this to Walking With Dinosaurs, and from that to Prehistoric Planet.

I remember this video well. I saw it with my dad as an actual film at the Museum of Natural History of Cincinnati. It was a feature at an exhibit of art celebrating Charles R. Knight. I also watched "Land of the Lost" as a kid, so I must have really enjoyed seeing the dinos take another job! 😄

Tsintaosaurus was described less than 2 years before this film's release. Very impressive that Chang was able to showcase such a brand new dinosaur (although he made the crest too broad, understandable as only lateral views of the skull were initially published).

Love those stop motion puppets! Also they kinda look like those vintage chinasaurs a little bit, mainy the detail but they have pretty good detail.

Marty Stouffer Wild America, Land Before Time nostalgia, and Jurassic World brought me here. Man as impressive as this was for the time, I'm super thankful The Land Before Time and Jurassic Park series were never ever made in Stop Motion! BTW they forgot to classify what Family BrontoSaurs aka LongNeck aka LittleFoot aka ThunderFoot was part of, the Sauropods!
