150: Sideshow Dinosauria Stegosaurus Statue Revisit

Күн бұрынAnother +100 Sideshow revisit, this time of the uber impressive Stegosaurus statue!
This has to be truly the most impressive showpiece I own from Sideshow. The T-Rex vs Triceratops was the most iconic, the Carnotaurus is my favourite dinosaur and YET!
The incredible array of dermal plates, the organic thagomizer spikes, even what would be a normally featureless head sculpted with so much life and detail. Everything is then tied together by a striking colour and pattern scheme. The final finishing touch is a pose conveys so much potential action but juxtaposed with a feeding oblivious baby. There is so much that can be seen, felt, inferred and imagined.
This is truly a visual and tactile treat, and I would go so far as to say that if there was only ONE Sideshow Dinosauria you could get that you wanted to be the centrepiece of your collection, THIS could be the one!

It is really majestic. Unfortuantely Sideshows don't come on the secondary market very often, and when they do it's always at ridiculous prices!

Ugh! Finally bit the bullet and bought this one (via EBay). Thank you for yet again convincing me that I need something. Now we are both Art Collectors. :)

I'm super excited for you!! Did you get this version, or the original one? When you open it... believe me even till now, I have NOT experienced a single statue that has given me the excitement and the satisfaction of a Sidshow Statue. They really made them special. Not just the sculpt but the paintwork... you really felt like you had something _premium_ ! Would love to hear your experiences after you've had yours a while! 😍

@@DinosDragons It’s this one. I totally agree with you that the classic colors make it the preferable version. Can’t wait until it arrives next week. I’ll definitely let you know how I feel about it once I have it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in person.

@@DinosDragons mine just arrived! Wow. One reason I hadn’t pushed hard to get one of these in the past was that I felt like the Rebor was a great representation of Stegosaurus in my collection. Now that I have the Sideshow in hand though, it is very clear to me that they are not even remotely comparable. This thing really needs to be seen in person to fully appreciate. I absolutely love it! My only gripe is that at least on mine, the feet on the right side of the baby don’t sit flush on the base. Kind of a bummer, but the adult is the main event and I might just display it alone anyways.

Probably my most sought-after piece. I have the Apatosaurus and between space and budget, I haven’t been able to pick it up. Great update / revisit.

This is the BEST Stegosaurus I've seen! I've seen you appear in the comments section of Plastic Prehistorica's channel a couple of times!😁

@Michael Kawano This is in fact my favourite Sideshow Dinosaur, all things considered, although the Apatosaurus would be a very very close second! There's just no beating everything this statue represents and exemplifies, and that's what a good statue should do. Strike you with awe and admiration. You can juxtapose that with what you get when you see the IToys Carnotaurus to realise what a travesty that was.

This is a beautiful sculpt capturing an “involved” moment rather than the typical static pose. Whether stegosaurus “bounced” into a bipedal, high alert position is very probable but, even if it did not, this sculpt represents a behavior which is subtlety portrayed but really brings it home that this was a real animal. Even elephants will “walk up” a tree to push on it or knock it over. Save for a new car, buy a stegosaurus....save for a new car, buy a stegosaurus..... I’ll buy some lottery tickets....

An elephant can stand on two feet and a rhino can jump so short bipedal pose of the stego is no problem I would say.

Yeah, I’ve seen videos of elephants rocking back onto their hind limbs not just for feeding but, decades ago, I watched a Nat Geo show with two bull elephants squaring off and BOTH elephants rose up on hind limbs during their sparring match. I can’t equate stegosaurus physiology to anything extant but I feel prehistoric critters still get short shrift as to their capabilities. I’m sure stegosaurus, Triceratops and sauropods “danced” in their own way and were as live, if not more so, than Bob Bakker first brought to light so long ago with his Dinosaur Heresies book. Their whole fantastic world and how they lived within it was probably much more rich than anyone has yet presented.

@Thomas Monroe I definitely was very influenced the Bakker's Dinosaur Heresies when it was first published. I remember those illustrations of the liveliest dinosaurs I'd ever seen, and I never ever questioned the rearing of the Stegosaurus and the sauropods. The main issues that have since been used to argue against that would be the blood pressure issues in the sauropods, and also the c.g. in most Stegosaurs. In Stegosaurs at least I believe workers like Dr Maidment has shown that at least for short periods, even considering their acoutrements, rearing was possible! It would be physically possible also I think for Ceratopsians. Even sauropods could physically do it I am sure; the question here is if they could take the stresses physiologically.

That is unarguably the most beautiful Stegosaurus I've ever seen! 🤩 The coloration is always how I envisaged it and that wood ring patterning on the plates looks very thoughtful and organic. Shame I can't afford one just yet, though I have the PNSO Biber & Rooker coming in soon so they'll do for now. Splendid review! Keep up the good work! 👍🏻

Thank you! Unfortunately Sideshows sold out really quickly, and from what I've observed, I believe most of them were bought by serious dinosaur collectors. So even if we wanted, we can't just show up and EBay and expect for find one for sale, even by scalpers and profiteers. I hope you'll like the Bieber and Rook. Many people feel they are too small and too dark in colour.

This version is the best. It´s a giant Watermelon. One of my favorites in my collection. Btw how many statues of the line do you have? I actually shot my 9th - the carnotaurus (the non-deluxe version). Someday maybe the Gastonia as last one.

Unfortunately, just one more - Gastonia! When these came out, I was in a phase of Life when I had to give many things a miss, and I had to pay aftermarket prices for the T Rex vs Triceratops and Carnotaurus. I didn't quite like the others like the Spinosaurus and Deinosuchus, although the Ceratosaurus I have regrets not getting. I certainly don't have your collection of mega statues. Titans of the Earth is a good an appropriate name for your channel! 😁

This was a pretty dope revist of the Sideshow Dinosauria Stegosaurus,and I think it still holds up today's understanding of the Roof Lizard,also I wish yall a great day

They've somehow often ended up some type of green body plus some type of red plate 😁 Which I kinda like, actually! I like this 'traditional' colour scheme, but done in new, exciting, interesting ways!
