Here’s a dinosaur I was expecting PNSO to give us first, but not only has this first mover position been claimed by GR Toys, it comes just one week after they gave us their wonderful Nasutoceratopses!
GR Toys seems to be moving full steam ahead, and this time round we have the very welcome hadrosauriform dinosaur Ouranosaurus. This ornithopod has been a mainstay in children’s books for year, yet till now, hasn’t had a good representative. The head and the sail are captured very nicely, and even though the hands leave room for improvement, the colours! Those wonderful colours! They are a wonderful example of how sculpt, paint application, and price and work together to create something nice yet affordable in this hobby.
Let me know what you think!

I love that you decided to make comparisons between different companies, not just sticking to dinos from the same company as well as different species, seeing the comparisons is one of my main interests and is kinda pleasing:)

Thank you! I don't focus on any specific company actually, but it seems that way because PNSO and GR Toys I happen to really like and get them early enough to value-add but doing a review. By the time we get the CollectAs and Safaris, people in the West would already have had them long before us, and there are already very good reviews making another one superfluous. I usually choose comparisons based on clade, and the better ones. Sometimes I might do comparisons on scale, and in this video I decided to include some from the same formation 😁

I was so happy when I saw these handsome Ouranosaurus released right after their wonderful Nasutoceratops. The patterns and paint jobs are so vibrant and pleasing to the eye. Pity about the forelimbs though. I really hope they continue to make species that PNSO hasn't done/doesn't seem to want to do, and step up a bit more on their anatomical research - personally hoping for them to do an Iguanodon, seeing how the PNSO one has a few inaccuracies (only thig holding me back from getting one). I'm counting on Haolonggood giving PNSO a run for their money, keeps them on their toes (: Thank you for another great video!

Tell me about it! I actually wanted an Ouranosaurus for a long time hoping PNSO would give us one. I contemplated getting a 3D printed one and having someone paint it, but it really would have close a lot of money and I just hoped PNSO would give us one one day. As you can see, HLG has done a great job, and scientific accuracy is the easiest bit; usually the sculpting and paint apps are the tough ones to do well, and especially at this price!

that orange version is really good. i feel like in terms of paint, the blue couldve transitioned more into the orange instead of the sudden stop. i also think that the face lacks the complexity that the rest of the body does have. overal a really good attempt on their part. I will wait before buying it, in case PNSO decides to have a go at it too

@@theimmortaleye7511 well, pnso would deliver a better and more accurate sculpt, and a more cohesive paintscheme (they used to be bland, but their recent releases prove they have changed their ways). I would rather pay 40 for a well painted pnso. If i were to get the gr toys one, i would have to get it repainted, which drives the cost up

@Francis In fact, I was hoping PNSO would offer this. I've never had one, and at one point even contemplated getting a 3D printed model to be finished by an artist. Then I realised I had no money 😑

I have absolutely no reason to add this species to my display... And yet I feel compelled to! To me the orange paint scheme borders on perfection. The irregularity and of the patterning and the way it blends softly into the body, The counter-shading, the colourful but still earthly tones, impactful but not too tiger-like... But I really adore the application of the blue, it looks like it really captures the structural pigmentation of bird birds. And I feel like they hit the tones and shapes in just the right way that I can imagine this animal looking completely different under UV sensitive eyes. I'm very tempted to buy it in the hopes that it does well enough for other companies to take note.

Wow you obviously know a lot more about this and as such you would definitely enjoy your models more! I like how companies do models in a way that can appeal to the general public, but also take on extra meaning and appreciation from those who really know their stuff. And all of this for USD$20+ is truly astounding! I've no doubt this will grow on you if you were to get one! 😁

It seems like PNSO and Haolonggood are in a hurry to drain our wallets 😜😅 If I had the chance, I'd buy that Green version. It looks so much better than the orange one. And I hope Haolonggood will lean into more scientifically accurate models because that's what we all crave. Being the only Ouranosaurus model out there at the moment (that I know of), this is a must-have ❤ Thank you so much, my dear Sir, for this wonderful video. Please keep up the fantastic work, and wish you all the best. 🖤

Thanks for your kind words as always Rajitha! Well, when I first saw the release images, I wanted the green for sure. Then when I found out how cheap they were, I got both. Now I have to say that in person, the orange really does look very very good! It's pretty hard to choose actually! The green is certainly a lot more soothing to look at. And yes, if HLG improves the scientific accuracy of its models, they are going to devastate our wallets along with PNSO. After all, the detailed sculpt and paint applications are the harder part to get under a certain price, and here we have both already! 😀

It definitely is! Reminds me of the old Safari/ Collecta models, but with much more advanced detail and paint apps!
@ArawnsFire
@ArawnsFire Жыл бұрын
I cannot help but suspect this was perhaps a rushed release. The details particularly on the face are modest when comparing the heavily striated beak of Nasutoceratops which appears more organic by comparison. Also, both sculpts appear conservative with the dimensions of the Caudofemoralis longus, Iliofibularis, and Transversus Perinei muscles which are generous among the Archosauria. The scaling detail does make for a satisfying tactile experience yet, the subdued detailing of PNSO’s newer releases are generally the more accurate. The absence of the thumb spike is glaring and leads me to believe perhaps their research places this genus in the Hadrosauridae. Given this genus is as rare as hen’s teeth I will no doubt purchase this figure.
@DinosDragons
@DinosDragons Жыл бұрын
Lol what a punchline! 😁👍 In terms of the sculpt, I think it would be very difficult to produce the kind of fine work done by PNSO but at the GR Toys price point. Compared to the CollectAs and Wild Safaris, the sculpt is good and the paint appliation even better. Where they miss is in the scientific rigour, and hopefully they can improve on that. In my personal tripod of sculpt + paint + scientic accuracy, they already have the hard parts, and I would imagine the accuracy bit to actually be the 'easiest'. It's when companies start to tweak sculpt and paint that the price increases, and at this current level the price is already USD$20 which is unheard of. Have you seen the latest CollectA Triceratops exclusive? The scupted detail is rough, so the paint app is expectedly hideous. Actually I believe GR Toys is aware of the thumb issue. Plenty of people complaining on the Chinese forums, so they definitely have heard it. Hopefully GR Toys will do better their next release. Meanwhile, there is a market for modding that would be rather happy with this unfortunate oversight in the Ourano I suspect! 😂

Have you noticed if one copy has sharper crisper detail than the other? A collector has reported that their orange copy has softer detail than their green version.
@DinosDragons
@DinosDragons Жыл бұрын
Hmmm... I haven't really. It seems that in the areas where the colour is more single tone, it would appear to be so from some angles since the details appear washed out. In mine both look about the same. Although I wouldn't be surprised if within a production run, you will have some differences depending on how the model 'prints'.

These are gorgeos esp the brown version. Haolonggood needs to work on their accuracy ( and as a pnso fanatic their sockpuppety extreme folds urk me) and then they soon either rival pnso, or fill a niche pnso abandoned ( cheaper smaller 20-25 buck models like their pachyrhino, microraptor etc)
@player21099
@player21099 Жыл бұрын
And you, as a fan of PNSO, are not annoyed by the deformation of pnso figures? As for accuracy, look at the figures of Iguanodon, sauropelta, ankylosaurus, amargasaurus from PNSO.
@theimmortaleye7511
@theimmortaleye7511 Жыл бұрын
@@player21099 i never said theire perfect, they do weird things with some animals, are leaning hard into dinos being lipless and more crocodile like than birdlike unless u cant deny it , tend to choose animals with such little evidence they basicly make a fantasy creature ( himalayasaurus, sinopliosaurus) And some inaccuracys that are baffling ( iguanodon), lastly theire overpriced due to their basicly monopoly . But first the amargasaurus is old and doesnt really count. They have made moonjumps in quality and accuracy since that Figure and in terms of fine detail theire very hard to top . The 90 - 100 dollar charcharo from gr toys basicly has worse detail ( not worse paint thats subjective) than their 50 dollar zhuschengtyrannus. So jeah theire better if not for anything else than that theire competitors are worse in many areas ( haolonggood ignores accuracy waaayyy too often, sockpuppet and some figures are hideos like the t rex and the therizino while costing more than pnso , eofauna releases too rarely and has dull painted on feeling colors with "clown paintons " for visual flare
@DinosDragons
@DinosDragons Жыл бұрын
@the immortal eye You're right, I'd almost forgotten about that niche that PNSO used to have! It certainly seems to have fallen out of sight and out of mind! But if indeed GR Toys could fill it, that would serve a large segment of the collecting community. If they just did a bit more rigorous research, they would be a real force to be reckoned with. Even these two sculpts have given a really good overall feel of the animal. Now it's the details that are going to really matter! Who knows they might announce another dinosaur next week 🤣

@@Bota7120 You can also name mistakes from the new figures - the synraptor's tail is too skinny, the styracosaur's collar is too tilted forward. Nevertheless, the old figures were made incorrectly even at that time, since, for example, the location of the sauropelt spikes and the number of toes on the ankylosaurus hind legs were known. It's not about old age. Iguanodon was with a normal head about a month before the release, judging by the promo photo, why was it changed?
