Clarifications: Roman Catholics do not worship the Saints, we venerate them. They are examples of virtue, piety, and above all...faith in God...even onto death. Roman Catholics were, and are not presently, deprived of Holy Scripture when the Mass was exclusively celebrated is Latin. A Roman Catholic could attend Mass throughout the world (at least until 1970) and feel at home worshiping God. However, I liked the video overall. Thanks! M.L. Beritich (My family is from Hvar).

Thank you, Michael, for your comments. I am not Roman Catholic so it is certainly possible that I am incorrect on some issue, but let me address your three points. I will start with your third comment that a Roman Catholic could attend a Mass anywhere in the world and feel at home. Actually, I agree. In my opinion, this is one of the strengths of the Catholic church even today -- familiarity and continuity. Since the Mass is essentially conducted in the same way throughout the world, a visiting Catholic will know what is happening at every stage. I believe that the topics of the homilies and maybe the Scripture texts are also decided in advance and the same within all or most of the churches. Since the Mass was mostly conducted only in Latin prior to Vatican 2, there would also be continuity in that regard, but not necessarily familiarity where people do not understand Latin. (2) I realize that today anyone has full access to the Holy Bible and personal study of the Scriptures is now encouraged, but this was not always so. Having Scripture read only in Latin, as it was for many centuries in the Roman Catholic church, was not beneficial to the people who did not understand Latin. There was a separation between the laity and the clergy. The clergy were education to be able to read; the vast majority of the population was not. Then there was also the problem of understanding. Even if a person could read, they probably didn't understand Latin. Then there was the problem of access. Bibles were so expensive to produce prior to the invention of the printing press, that people could not have access to a Bible. The reason most of the old Catholic churches and cathedrals contained so much art depicting biblical and extra-biblical events is because of these issues. The people could have a visual representation to look at as the priest told the stories or explained the Scripture. But the reluctance to encourage personal study of God's Word endured far too long, in my opinion, on the basis that the clergy were the only ones qualified to properly interpret the Scriptures and that the common people would only be led into false beliefs if they tried to study on their own. But remember that the Apostle Paul commended the Jewish people of Berea in Greece as being more noble because they did not just accept Paul's teachings as true, but they examined the Scriptures (the Old Testament) daily to see if what he was teaching was true (Acts 17:11). (3) Veneration of the saints. I believe I understand the argument of veneration versus worship, but I, and many non-Roman Catholics have issues with the doctrine. Actually, I agree that Christians of the past should be recognized for their life and faithfulness as an example for all of us. But I disagree with the definition of veneration versus the acts of veneration. Praying to the saints as intercessors -- 1 Timothy 2:5 clearly states that there is only one God and one mediator (intercessor) between God and man, and that is Jesus Christ. We have direct access to God's throne room because of the blood of Jesus Christ so that we do not need other intercessors (Ephesians 3:12). Praying through the saints also tends to render unto them divine attributes. To claim that Mary can simultaneously hear and answer or present to Christ thousands of prayers simultaneously is to ascribe to her the attributes of omniscience (all knowledge) and omnipresence, which are attributes that belong to God alone. And to pray before a statue and kiss its feet are arguably acts that go beyond the boundaries of veneration and into worship. I hope this helps answer some questions. Whether you agree or not, there is value in understanding the views of others and to consider why they believe as they do. God bless.

I like the facts in the video. I don't like the facts being wrapped in al the made-up biblical garbage. PS: I especially love the irony of the statement that common people were left ignorant due to the mass and the book being in Latin only, as if those two are something that can enlighten a person. Religion is a human construct, just like any gods or miracles. PPS: Gregory was nowhere near the first one to preach in languages other than Latin. By some popes at some times, it was even encouraged. Sts. Cyril and Methodius obtained papal blessing to preach in the Old Slavic when they went to Great Moravia, for example. They even translated parts of the New Testament.

I am an art historian from Split, Croatia, and I have read many books on the topic of the palace, as well as witnessed many excavations of the antique heritage in my town. There is so many mistakes and false facts that you provided here. Also mentioning that a Roman Emperor was a spawn of Satan is just ridiculous. Romans had their own religion and it is to be treated with respect. Please get your facts straight and unbiased before you try to teach people history! This is horrible.

Yeah but it was a pretty crappy thing to do.. it’s not a myth. Even the non-Christians thought they went overboard with the brutality.. at once point.. in some areas they didn’t allow them to bury their dead and left them rotting in the streets…. pretty trashy tbh

@@kelvyquayoit's the best thing they could do, if they only succeeded, imagine the world today without crusades and all those religious animals thru history, there wouldn't be islam either and judaism would be sone obscure sect like zoroastrianism, as someone from croatia, i don't know any catholic that i couldn't live without here, rigioua people were they christians, muslims, jews or hindus are just animals and the pest of this world, hideous things especially christians and muslims, especially sects like evangelicals or orthodox or shia muslims, catholics at least for the most part just pretend to believe that crap and say that we should understand it more like a fairytale and not a reality, but animals none the less!
