From our 1st Season of Paramount's hit 80s TV series, "SOLID GOLD", enjoy our host, DIONNE WARWICK and BARRY WHITE singing his hit, "NEVER NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP", arranged and produced by myself (Solid Gold's musical director and theme composer, Michael Miller - aka "Mickle"). And be sure to enjoy the background vocal stylings of Dionne Warwick, Darlene Love and Eunice Washington! This aired on May 30, 1981.

Dionne could sing any song and once she added her flare it was instant gold. I can also see where Whitney got some of her stage presence; the way she held her hands and moved her fingers and shoulders and even toyed with her voice, it was much like her cousin Dionne. Both exceptionally beautiful singers.

I listen to this excellent duet over and over again but l could never get fed up with hearing it. This is because they are blessed with the gift/ talent to sing and make music. True talent don't lose its touch. Thank God for his generosity and blessings on his human children.

....MUCH have been said about Lisa Stansfield & Barry, but Dionne is STUNNING in this rendition....her high notes & range compliments Barry's low, deep range, and brings on an '80's' contemporary sound.....very similar to Lisa's 1997 version! ...INCREDIBLE....

Barry looked so comfy and confident with Dionne handling his classic tune with style and grace. He just gushed over the finishing touch she placed on it at the end. Luv it. They should have done a studio version of this: would have been exponentially better than his duet with Lisa Stansfield.

2 of the greatest singers ever. Just listening to those wonderful positive lyrics is beautiful. Too many current singers use lyrics that are beyond disgusting. Barry white recorded so many wonderful duet’s my fav is with Luciano Pavarotti. RIP MR. BARRY WHITE you will never be forgotten ❤️

I was really young when these shows aired, but my family was so musical, it was almost required watching. I do remember knowing Dionne Warwick cd slay any song that cd be presented on the show. And that's apart from being the longest and most experienced host.

Bringing in her backup singers later on in the chorus nailed it for me. You could see from the look on her face from the applause how proud she was the duet was a success!

This is Michael Miller (the musical director of Solid Gold and the arranger of this duet). It was definitely one of Dionne’s very favorite duets that she ever did on the show, and, just so you are aware, “her backup singers” actually included herself. The background vocal recording sessions that we did with Dionne, Darlene Love and Eunice Peterson a few days before the taping days were some of my very favorite experiences from the entire run of the series We always had lots of fun doing those vocal sessions after we pre-recorded the backing tracks with the band. At the tapings, Dionne and the cohosts always sang live to the pre-recorded backing tracks that we went into the recording studio to create a few days prior. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the outcome of this particular one!
