"Girl, you can wear whatever you want." It's "escapism." "Fun." Isn't this similar to drag? That fashion ethic of yours is what it should all be about. Although these two aesthetics are "not my style" I felt a freshness and freedom with them that I didn't feel with "Old Money" and "School Uniforms" which are obviously very restrictive. I was glad that this vlog was on cutting edge movements, last year and this. I was glad also that you felt little need for criticism of these aesthetics. I disagreed profoundly with the critic who wrote that these were an appropriation of indigenous astrology culture. Astrology goes back to ancient Mesopotamia, for Christ's sake, but I had to acknowledge that since indigenous people were forbidden to practice their "pagan" culture with saging, etc. but that white girls were, that was appropriation. This vid was a breath of fresh air. Clap out.

I’m mixed white and indigenous and I’m so glad you brought up some of the appropriative practices that both these aesthetics and the aesthetics they’re drawn from, because it was the way some of those aesthetics interacted with my culture that made me hesitant to really dive into them. You’ve clearly spent a lot of time and care on this, which is just really great to see. After watching this, I’m definitely gonna try integrating some whimsigoth pieces into my wardrobe

Finally! I have been waiting on this. I love both fairygrunge and whimsigoth aesthetics. But I hope there is a newer branch that is not as dark in as whimsigoth (and fairygrunge I find it too limited in colors like green and brown). Like hippie style colors but 2020s version.
@dionthetaurus

yes! i think the 70s hippie revival that happened summer of 2020 will be that manifestation of the style!

I think the love witch also matches this aesthetic, at lest her house since her outfits are more 60s. I really like it, but I give a little bit of a personal twist with the colors. It kinda makes me feels like a modern Morgana from the Arthurian legends

I LOVE that I found this video! You did amazing and I love that you did thorough research and including everybody instead of just white girls. As a black girl that practices hoodoo (an African American spirituality), I feel like I’ve always gravitated towards this aesthetic and it reconnects back to my roots! Also, I feel like somebody that embody fairy grunge from Twilight is Alice not so much Bella. 😊Thank you again!

so this is my aesthetic exactly. I am also a pagan, specifically studying celtic and norse witchcraft (where a lot of my ancestors are from) and you kind of said this already, but as witches/pagans we can learn from other cultures, but historically you should practice within your ancestry lines culture. i totally agree about supporting the right people. most of my clothing is bought through small women owned businesses, or ehtical brands/thrifted. part of the culture should be honoring the earth, and attempting to support the right brands and cultures. this is absolutely my style. the colors, fabrics, shapes and everything. lovvvve it.

I can't believe there was no mention of our queen Winona! 😲🥺 Also not all white people are the same, slavic people have sadly always been looked down on, our history and roots have been neglected/made fun of. It is changing now and I am gratefull for that, altho I am worried it will go into fetishizing slavic woman. Thank you for a great video, I subbed and am sure to binge all of your videos on my day off ❤️

@@vortexofself maybe you can find some of their pieces secondhand, e.g., on depop or thredup? Its very sad that they had to close. From what I understand one of the main reasons why they struggled were scammy, fast fashion brands stealing their designs. I guess the financial crisis also didn't help.

We just called it 'alternative fashion' in the nineties. Anyone, regardless of age, ethnicity or body size wore it. It was media in the nineties that only used skinny white women. This wasn't the case in real life.

The fact is as well, sage - the plant grows everywhere, you can use that, it has the same properties. Burning regular sage that grows in your garden is just as cleansing, there are also tons of other herbs like rosemary, juniper etc that are related to cleansing. Furthermore, if you really want white sage - get incense sticks - they are scented and have the symbolism of white sage without actually using actual white sage ( most of the time)

20:33 Wicca nope hi Norsemen here our culture is not like Wicca please don't clump us together. 19:01 some plants people use are for closed practices and are endangered too so many people outside of the culture also use it in properly which can cause very unwanted effects. Also a metaphysical shop can have all the informing cords of the cultural background of using sage also discussing the cultural backgrounds of using sage and still some outsiders blatantly ignore all the information and warnings.

You have great style. I wouldn't worry about appropriating culture. Honestly, if we can have a Danish story like the Little Mermaid suddenly become about a black character, and Anne Boleyn can be black, and we can have black druids, then we can have white Voudin if we so wish. Although I do agree the druidic paganism is probably better suited for white witches. Slavic witches like Baba Yaga are appropriate too.
