Follow the making of the Dior Autumn-Winter 2023-2024 Haute Couture show by Maria Grazia Chiuri, perpetuating the cult of the goddess through reinterpretations of archetypal garments. A collective effort, see the silhouettes come to life in the hands of petites mains stretching from Avenue Montaigne and the House's partner ateliers - including Maison Paloma, in association with Matériel le 19M - to the Chanakya School of Craft in India, where artisans create a magical tree of life embroidery in a mix of gold metallic yarns. As the perfect backdrop, Marta Roberti transforms the catwalk into an art gallery adorned with embroidered drawings of goddesses and animals.

This is so beautiful. How I appreciate a glimpse into these highly skilled couture techniques. Amazing! The flat accordion pleat is a marvel. And I will always love a beautifully tailored jacket. The fabrics... I could go on! 🤍

Wow, as someone who designs and also sews by hand, watching these artisans sewing for one of the finest couture fashion houses in the world is really a treat. The white environment is really beautiful. Then all the fabrics, hand work, designs, and details is just spectacular. I wonder how long it takes to make one of these complex pieces. I’m awed by the magnificent hand made, hanging panels. This presentation is ethereal and Heavenly. Even the audience is dressed in colors that match the draperies.

Actually the statues used to be coloured, with many rich colours and patterns. The colours faded with time, but there are some statues that kept some traces of colour.

Yeah they were actually super-gaudy but no one wants to know that because they prefer the idea of dignified austerity, even though that just did not exist. Colour was expensive and status-conscious back in the day; only poor people wore neutrals lol. Oh the irony.

Это невероятный ручной труд! Мастера DIOR художники в каждом стежке нитки, каждом наколе булавки! Очень давно я делала сама вручную плиссе для своего платья и знаю, КАКАЯ это кропотливая и точная работа👏👏👏! Вышивка гладью и бисером, украшения из бисера - всё это мне знакомо! Right, I'm gonna say it. Didn't Penelope unweave the shroud because she was using it at as an excuse to not get remarried to one of her suitors? Like, "oh, I couldn't possibly remarry until I finish," not because she "didn't want to be reabsorbed into the masculine world of the king." Edit: also, Ishtar is the goddess of fertility, love, eroticism, and WAR. Dunno why the artist would drop the last one, it's kind of an important aspect of her worship.

I can cry watching this! The beauty, the way humble sewing is elevated to such an art that is heavenly, one can’t call it beautiful, it is beyond. It honors the viewer to share these fine artists’ work and insight. I wish each one could sit to tea with me and tell their story very detailed.

I always hope the have saved the extraordinary sets they create for Maria Grazia’s shows. Every time I am blown away by the artistry and work that goes into these backdrops, not unlike the clothes themselves. It breaks my heart to think they might end up a bin somewhere.

There is no way they will end up in a bin - the sets cost them hundreds of thousands of euros to create. They will be saved and put in storage for historical reference.
