Supplies: -OPI Bond Aid pH Balancing Agent -OPI Powder Perfection Step 1 Base Coat -OPI Powder Perfection Step 2 Activation -OPI Powder Perfection Step 3 Top Coat -OPI Powder Perfection Dip Color Powder -OPI Clear Setting Powder -OPI nail file Edge 240 -OPI nail file Flex 220/280 -OPI nail file Flex 100/180 -OPI NAS 99 Nail Cleanse Solution -OPI Pro Spa Nail and Cuticle Oil -Tool to push back cuticles Pusher Plus -Tool Dexterity for cuticle detailing -Dust Brush -Acetone to remove dip powder Nail Prep: 1. Push back cuticles using Pusher Plus 2. Use tool Dexterity to detail cuticles 3. Work on nail length + shape using OPI Edge 240 nail file 4. Use OPI Flex 220 grey side to buff nail plate 5. After buffing, cleanse nails with OPI NAS 99 and lint free wipe to remove dust and oils 6. Apply OPI Bond Aid to all nails, 1 coat only, for maximum adhesion. After this, nails are prepped and ready to go. Be sure to not touch the surface after applying Bond Aid Application of Powder: 1. Apply OPI Step 1 Base Coat nice and thin, just shy of cuticles, to stagger layers to create a tapered look, otherwise it will be chunky 2. Dip nail into color powder at a 45 degree angle, pause, tap off excess powder. Repeat for all 5 nails: base, then dip, base then dip, base then dip, base then dip, base then dip. Yes..I just typed that 5x. 3. Using a dust brush, brush off any excess powder. If you skip this step, your base coat brush will harden 4. Apply 2nd base coat, closet to cuticles, then dip again. Repeat on all nails, then dust off excess powder 5. Apply 3rd base (final) base coat, closest to cuticles, then dip into CLEAR SET POWDER, not colored powder. This is a finer powder. Dust off any excess clear set powder 6. Apply OPI Step 2 Activator (3-4 mins dry time) 7. File nail with OPI Edge 180 8. Buff nails with OPI Flex 100/180, rough side first 9. Smooth nails with OPI Flex 220/280, finish with the smooth side of the file 10. Brush off any excess dust 11. Apply another layer of OPI Activator (this is the 2nd layer) after buffing (3-4 mins dry time) 12. Repeat steps 7-11 on the other hand 13. Make sure nails are dry from Activator application. Wipe nails with a dry, lint-free wipe before applying top coat 14. Apply OPI Step 3 Top Coat using minimal strokes and float your brush. Wipe the brush to avoid hardening 15. Apply a 2nd coat of Top Coat (allow 1-2 mins of dry time) 16. Wait 5 minutes to set and dry 17. Apply OPI Pro Spa Nail and Cuticle Oil to finish 💅🏽

Thanks so much for the awesome video. I’m a silversmith and also my own jewelry hand model. I got so tired of having to do a polish manicure just to take jewelry photos. I LOVE the dip powder! It holds up to many weeks of filing, sanding, and bashing silver. Forget the stickers, too. The biggest thing that helped me is the base coat application. I’m getting so much better. And good grief, who has time to apply a polish manicure every week?! 😅 I don’t!

Hi Kaitlyn, ooh exciting! I’m confident you’ll get much more wear time from the powder 😁 Watch the video through again a couple of times and then have the video to hand when you try it out. Check the instructions of the kit you’ve bought as another brand could have slightly different steps. Remember the first set will be half as good as the third 😉 Practice makes perfect 👌🏻 Sing out of you need any further help ok. x

Cheryl Cooke OPI NZ I just did them today!! They came out really nice for my first try 😊 a little bit thick, so I filed them as much as I could but next time I’m going to do less layers! Now my sister wants to try too! Thank you 😊❤️
@cherylcookeopinz
@cherylcookeopinz 4 жыл бұрын
Yay! That’s great to hear! Experiment with the thickness you apply the base coats. Go as thin as possible but still getting coverage. If you go too thin then the powder won’t stick and the nails will be patchy. That will help to get the thinnest nails with the right amount or coats for durability. Sure your sister will love them too! 😉

its amazing how the dip system starting at the home level.... of women who couldnt mix the acrylics mix + brush blend properly. polygel is also home care invented. BEFORE the nail market will only cater to the professionals and you HAD to lean those techniques/skillsets to do your nails at home. press-on nails , glue, nail polish =were only game in town for a long long time! 💅🏾now my 'home' nails last longer than 3 days 😂 I dont have to walk around with nail glue in my purse
@cherylcookeopinz
@cherylcookeopinz 4 жыл бұрын
Yes its amazing how the nail industry has changed over the years! So many options now from at home to in salon and lots of crossover. Wouldn't it be good if you had a spare set of hands to do your own hands though right! 😂 Thats the main benefit for going to the salon plus the nail techs do it all the time so they are skilled and quicker usually so the nails last and less need for glue in your purse too! Thank goodness for KZfaq right 😉

Thanks so much for your video! So easy to follow. Did it with the complete OPI system for the first time and it turned out well. However, after about 5 minutes of being finished, I touched a nail and it still wasn’t dry and it put a mark on the nail (I was able to fix it later). It seems that it’s taking much longer than 1-2 minutes for the top coat to dry. Maybe 10 minutes or so. Any idea what I might’ve done wrong?
@cherylcookeopinz
@cherylcookeopinz Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your lovely comment 🥰 With regards to not drying fast, potentially the top coat was too thick. The first coat should be thin and dry by the time you have done the other hand (showing non shiny on the first coat) then the second coat still thin. Also make sure you have applied enough activator before the top coat. Bear in mind the temperature of the room also will make a difference, colder takes longer usually. Hope this helps 😌

Hi Cheryl! Great video 😊 I use to be a nail artist but only worked with acrylics and want to try this at home. Do you need to seal the cuticle with this like you do with acrylics? Im prone to lifting so want to get it right! Thank you 🙂
@cherylcookeopinz
@cherylcookeopinz 8 ай бұрын
Hi @jaxtraining8227, thank you glad you like the video and it’s helpful for you. To avoid lifting make sure you prep the nails (shown in the video), the bond aid will help seal and ideally avoid flooding this into the cuticle when you apply it. Then when you apply base coat make sure that doesn’t touch the cuticle either which will give you a better seal around the cuticle area. Hope this helps! Thanks 😊

Cheryl, I do this professionally and I sometimes have a problem when it comes to the filing section that the product hasn’t hardened enough and it start rolling or coming off as I’m filling. Like it’s rubbery not hard. I want sure if it was because it was a dark color. I was worried it was the clear set causing the problem and maybe I should only do the color dip and not the clear at the end. It’s driving me crazy. Seems to do it the worst on the start color that I’m using so I was wondering if dart just doesn’t set as well is lighter colors.
@cherylcookeopinz
@cherylcookeopinz 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Brandi, I think I can help you with this. ☺️ Firstly you need to check you are applying enough activator and covering the whole nail not leaving any spaces on the nail that are missing activator. If you are happy with that then next check you are waiting long enough before you file, I would say at least 3-5 minutes. If you are happy you are doing both of these things correctly then my next thought is the thickness of the base coat. If the base is applied too thick then it can’t cure properly. So have a go with thinner coats making sure there is no puddling or thick uneven areas. Even a thick bump on the nail is enough to have an area that doesn’t set and stays soft leading to the rubber rolling of the product which is so annoying right! Maybe your base coat is a bit old and sticky so hard to apply nice and thin. Last fail safe is to tap the nail with your nail before you start to file to check it sounds hard and no dead spots. The dark colour shouldn’t make any difference with the curing of the powder. As long as you are doing 2 thin coats of colour and one thin coat of clear then it should cure with the activator no problem. I look forward to hearing back from you that these tips have solved it for you! 🤞🏻😁 Good luck!

Hi!! Best video tutorial I’ve seen. I just purchased the whole opi dip powder system. Do you have to use the clear set powder? This is the first video I’ve seen it used in. I purchased everything but then I just happened to see this video.
@cherylcookeopinz

Hi there, you don’t have to use the clear powder. OPI includes the clear powder step after the colour for 2 reasons. The clear powder is finer than the colour so it sits into all the little gaps and gives the nail a smoother finish which is faster to buff. Also by adding the clear layer then when you buff you don’t loose precious colour. If you don’t have clear powder then I suggest doing 3 coats of colour instead, the clear just gives you an even better finish. Hope this helps, thanks for watching x

Hi, I’m sorry I only just saw your comment. 😔 it’s probably a bit late now 🤦🏼‍♀️ I would just say that using the entire process is really important. Even missing one step is enough for the nails to fail or not last long. However to narrow it down for you, chipping could most likely be linked to the prep. Prep is THE most important step in applying nails. Make sure you buff enough but not too much to avoid damage to the nail. Also keeping each coat thin as thickness of product can also lead to chipping. Let me know if you are still attempting these nails and if you have solved the problem. Thanks for watching ☺️

Hi Yvonne, if the nails are clean of existing product then 45-60 mins is a good estimate. If the nails are already prepped as well then knock off another 10-15 mins. @cherylcookeopinz
@cherylcookeopinz 4 жыл бұрын
jenboo82 - Hi! Thank you for your lovely comment ☺️ Great to hear you are using the full OPI system. If you are getting a gritty finish then first check that your filing step is sufficient. Having good quality files makes all the difference and buffing down finishing with a sponge buffer about 220/280 grit should ensure that step is smooth. Make sure you remove all the dust before applying activator. Your top coat application needs to be a light floating first coat then once that goes matte then second coat is more precise. That’s what gives you the shine. Don’t overwork the top coat though. Hopefully these tips will solve your issue. Double check also that your top coat isn’t contaminated as well. Thanks for watching ☺️

I just purchased this system to try at home after watching your great video. It looks much easier that it is when you are inexperienced and doing your own nails. @cherylcookeopinz
@cherylcookeopinz 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, so glad you enjoyed my video. ☺️ Yes it can take some practice to perfect it but I promise you will get there after a few sets. When you do the first base coat then dip the nails they don’t dry fully. Just enough to lightly dust off the excess powder and do the next coat of base before you dip again. They shouldn’t be wet as the powder will have absorbed into the base but they will be very soft. If very wet then too much base and not enough powder. They only harden properly when the activator is applied and wait 3-4 mins. Does this make sense? Happy to answer more questions if you have them. 😌

@@lisabowman817 - ah yes must be too thick if it’s clumping too. You need to do the base thin enough that the powder sticks to it. So you know you’ve done it too thin when you dip and you get a missed patch where the base has already dried in the few seconds it takes to dip! So then that’s too thin so go thicker again so you can dip and get full coverage. You’ll see on the video I did a thin one and it shows you the missed bit. When you dip make sure you are at a 45 degree angle then actually say pause in the powder then take it out! 😂 Glad you’ve had a good experience before so you know it can be good and pottery is tough on your nails so well done! This is the best system for you for sure. 👍🏻 just got to nail doing it yourself. Hang in there I know you can do it with some practice. Sing out if you need anything more x

@cherylcookeopinz
@cherylcookeopinz 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cristian, thank you. Glad you like the video! Ok so the main tips I can give you to get that shine are that you need to make sure that the activator is generously applied so that enough reaction can occur. Then make sure you wait the 3-4 mins then dry wipe the nail. The first top coat needs to be floated on so the brush barely touches the nail and it’s a quick 3 stroke application, doesn’t have to be perfect. When the shine disappears from that coat you can apply the second coat. That’s where the shine comes from. That coat takes about 5-10 mins to dry fully. Don’t overwork the top coat that will loose the shine finish too. I’m confident this will fix it for you. Let me know how you get on! 😁

Hi Sophia Anne, glad you liked the video! You should experiment with doing an extra coat only across the join of the tip. Just apply over the join and the apex (the highest/mid point of the nail plate) feather out the base coat so you don’t get a solid line. This will give you extra strength at this vital area and help blend the join too and give the nail a fuller shape. Then go ahead with the 2 coats of colour and finish with the clear as shown in the video. Let me know how you get on with this technique. Hi Blake Calhoun, if you don’t have the clear powder then you can just do an extra coat of the colour. It will just be more coarse to file. The clear powder gives it a smoother finish. When you buff you’ll see colour coming off but it’s the 3rd coat so don’t worry just make sure you don’t buff too much off. My 2nd top coat never works. The brush hardens in between the 2 layers... help?!? Is there a reason? I followed the direction exactly as video shows
@cherylcookeopinz
@cherylcookeopinz 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Amber, the top coat brush would have started to become hard from the contact with the nail on the first coat. The first coat touches the activator. To ensure the brush doesn’t harden make sure you are waiting enough time, like 3-4 mins at least. Then dry wipe the nail to make sure excess activator is gone especially in the grooves of the cuticles. Then the first coat of top coat you need to float the brush so it hardly touches the nail and stroke on the top coat fairly quickly. Don’t worry if the first coat isn’t that tidy. Put these tips together and your brush shouldn’t harden. Once the first coat is dry (non shiny) then you can do the second coat of top coat with more precision. If you’re still getting trouble with the brush going hard then after activator try giving the hand a wash in water before the top coat. Just make sure the nails are completely dry of the water before applying the top coat. 👍🏻 Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching 😊

My finger nails is burning in the light what can I do to remedy it?

Hey, with the Powder Perfection you don’t need to use a light to cure it. The activator cures it instead. If you are referring to curing gels in the lamp then there are a couple of reasons for that burning sensation. Either your nails are damaged or thin or the gel is being applied too thick. It may also depend on the quality of the lamp you are using. To reduce that burn feeling you can flash cure the nails for 3 seconds then after that then cure for the full cure time depending on the brand/product you are using. Hope this helps you! 😌

@@Solid_Snack You’re welcome ☺️ Yes in salon it’s best practice to wash hands before every service. Also I know many salons that wash hands after buffing to remove the dust but it’s not essential. If you do just make sure they are fully dry with no water droplets left on the nails or hiding in the cuticle area. If you are getting itching after using product then you have developed an intolerance. Different brands have different ingredients so you may find you may not experience that with them all. Always make sure to avoid touching the skin with any nail product, that includes wiping errors with your thumb (this happens a lot) 😉 You can also develop similar intolerances with gel so be sure to use the product safely to avoid this happening down the line. Hi there, wrinkling of the top coat is probably because the activator isn't drying it quick enough or your top coat is too thick. Make sure the activator is applied evenly on the nails and covered well, remember to wait for 3-4 mins then when you apply top coat float the brush and don't over work it just a few quick strokes, not too much product on your brush. Wait for it to be completely dry (looks matte) then apply again but don't overwork it just 3-4 strokes is ideal and again not too thick. have a go and let me know how you get on. Thanks for your question ☺️

Hi Julie, so are you saying that its the gel top coat that keeps peeling? The powder perfection top coat shouldn't peel, possibly if you haven't used activator then you can run into problems or if you are applying it too thick. If its the gel top coat that you are talking about peeling then make sure when you buff the nails they are left quite rough like a 180 grit, then dust off and use thin coats of gel base then gel top coat as you mentioned and that should be ok. Using the powder top coat is definitely the best choice for durable nails though. Its best to stick with the system as intended. Hope this helps you. x

How long does the top coat take to dry? I was doing okay until top coat seems to stay tacky.
@cherylcookeopinz
@cherylcookeopinz 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Vicky, ok so the top coat should be dry within 5 minutes usually. If the top coat is taking too long to dry there are a couple of reasons here. Either you didn’t apply enough activator after you buffed the nails, be sure to cover all the nail so there are no patches but don’t flood the cuticle. Make sure the activator has 3 mins to rest as well before applying top coat. Also another reason could be that you are applying the top coat too thick. Make sure there are no blobs of top coat as that thickness won’t be able to be cured by the activator all the way through. That first coat of top coat should be quite thin and dry very quickly. You’ll see it’s dry when the nail isn’t shiny anymore in about a minute or 2. Then the second coat of top coat is the one that gives you the shine. Please let me know this reply solves your issue. Hi Brandi, glad you like the video. Yes Bond Aid is definitely an essential for nails that last, glad it helped you. Ok so the main reason for your top coat not being shiny is either your application of activator is not covered well enough or the first coat of top coat is being overworked. Make sure you apply the first coat quick and light floating the brush. When that is dry (when it goes dull) then apply another coat of top coat again don’t overwork it but you can be more precise with that coat. When that’s dry it should be nice and shiny. Have a go and let me know if that solves it for you. 😁 Apologies for my delayed reply.

Hey Cheryl help I ran out of activator is there a substitute?

Hey Brandi, ah no sorry no substitute that I know of 🤔 I’m thinking if you wait long enough the base could dry on it’s own but don’t quote me on that as I haven’t tried it! Tap the nail to listen to the sound to know if it’s dried enough to buff. Let me know how you go! Maybe I’ll test it too! 😊

Question for you! So 2 applications of color and 3rd application is the clear setting powder? Correct? Or 3 applications of colored powder and THEN clear setting powder?

Cheryl Cooke OPI NZ what if my top coat brush becomes hardened? How do I fix that!

Alex Harrison - if your brush goes hard then you need to soak it in acetone to dissolve the product and bring your brush back to life! Check out my second part 2 video on Powder Perfection as I mention about this in there. 👍🏻

I'm having problems with to coat being not shiny? If I want to use light cure to coat can I?
@cherylcookeopinz

Hi Dina, if the top coat is not shiny then you need to make sure you have applied enough activator. Then wait 3-4 mins before applying the first coat of top coat. This first coat needs to be applied quickly barely touching the nail. let this coat dry. You will know its dry when it isn't shiny anymore. Then apply the second top coat taking more care this time. when this layer is dry then the top coat should stay shiny. Curing this type of top coat with light won't help at all as its a different technology so won't make it dry. Activator and air makes it dry and shiny for this product. Let me know how you go :) x

Hola Lety, you have to be a professional nail technician to buy OPI powder perfection, check out OPI.com for a stockist near you. There are many dipping powders on the market if you are a beginner though. Google search for ‘dipping powders’ or try Amazon as there are lots of different ones on there. Hope this helps. Sorry I can’t reply in Spanish, I know enough to read your comment just but not good enough to reply! 😊
