Nice work again, Noah. I once made a photography aquarium for aquatic herps. It was only about 2 inches wide at the most, about 10 inches long, and 8 inches high. Wood bottom and the glass was sealed with silicone. Great for newts, larval salamanders, and small egg masses. Easy to make. I added natural bottom material and assorted algae and twigs. Great for backlighting and lightweight. You can use glass or plexiglass. Try it if you haven’t already.

Cool finds. I used to reptile hunt all the time as a kid in Jacksonville. Never saw a coral snake and the scarlet king you found is even rarer since mimicry only works if rarer. We once chased a very long black snake, perhaps 6 ft long. Might have been an Indigo. Now in California, I see many rattlesnakes, a few kingsnakes (which eat them), and occasionally a garter or gopher snake.

A friend of mine has a captive bred female cottonmouth. She will eat anything. She eats mice mostly but she will also eat fish and occasionally a bullfrog. They have 1 of the most diverse diets of any snake. They have actually been known to eat like 100 different prey species making them easy captives for people into venomous snakes. I'll stick with non venomous snakes though.

Yeah every single scarlet king I catch in Florida tries to take a piece of me, but their teeth literally feel like Velcro. The Florida scarlet snakes on the other hand are so much more docile. I’ve even had a green rough snake try to bite me (a baby) so maybe it’s just me🤔
