The Final Days of Studio Coast were a series of two concerts played at the 26th and 27th Janurary of this year at Usen Studio Coast before the venue was demolished. Dir en grey have had the honour to close the venue with those two concerts because they have been the band who played the most concerts there [74 in total]. I think this DVD is such a beautiful way to commemorate Usen and it also sets a sign against the current trend to close down live houses in Japan that had to be sold during the pandemic. Music halls and bands depend on each other and you can't destroy one without harming the other and with that diminish possibilities for likeminded people to gather and experience something together - which is incredibly important. Their 2005 album Withering to Death. has been one of their most drastic albums in performance [overall the album has a fair amount of rock and punk vibes but is also heavier and thematically devastating]. The first single release for this album was the song The Final which became somewhat of a hymn. The name of the concert does therefore not only describe the closing of the venue but the history the band has with it and ties the two together. Kodou is the last song on Withering to Death. and they played it as a second encore [something they very very rarely do] at the second day. The title of the song describes a heartbeat. Another cool choice by your patron that shows their ability to write awesome rock songs with a twist :)

Pop rock, punk, experimental, prog, ballads, deathcore, and so much more. They are incredible. And don't care about being stuck in a single genre or scene. They do what they want.
