You may be unaware or surprised or don't care, but stereo stores would use dire straits as their demo album to sell speakers

You should watch the "Calypso" version from the Sydney concert. Absolutely amazing.

The music industry has changed dramatically in the last decades. When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s you only heard new music on the radio and if you heard something you liked you hoped that the band would play live at a club in your area. The music companies had a financial agreement with radio stations (called payola) to play one certain song from an album and play it often. Unless you bought the album you never heard the other songs on it. TV slowly got involved and the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and other bands were shown on the Ed Sullivan show. After a while music had their own shows like American Bandstand, Hullabaloo and Shindig. Then came MTV and the computer age and digital music, which killed the FM radio stations, and the record companies could no longer dictate what music you will like.

Bass players, especially in rock, very rarely strum or play chords. You may be listening to the rhythm guitarist.

I think he really talks about the bass line, not chords. By the way: The bass player is the guy with the red jacket. 😉

This guy is so clueless if all he picked up on was the bass instead of one of the best guitarists ever
