Yep, Robert (Bob) Nesta Marley sang, “Music…when it hits you, you feel no pain,” but that’s not always true. Still, it’s always better than actual violence! I find the changing of the seasons, the feeling in the air during the first few weeks of a new season, has a similar effect for me. Like music, it stimulates some specific part of the brain, and zoom…you’re on a psycho-emotional roller coaster through hyperspace and time. It’s mysterious and wonderful.

Back in the 80s had a long-distance "affair" with a married woman from St. Louis.... I lived in Colorado Springs....We both worked for Chrysler corporate and met at a one-week training event in Sacramento...4 nights of heaven in a hotel room on the company's dime---- on the last night, rented a car and drove to 'Frisco and spent the night on the beach close to the Golden Gate bridge...the "relationship" lasted another year despite the fact that we never met in person again... the long intimate phone calls kept our "love" alive... until they didn't.....this was "our song"...Good night, Chris Milburn wherever you are.

Dire Straits were driving songs for me and my first love-in the 80's- Birmingham to Edinburgh and back on the M6. It was a long distance relationship for a while and I used to listen to to this and cry as I missed him so much. He and I didn't last......but the music did. I recently found out he had passed away far too young. This song will always remind me of him.

When I was in the military service (1986-1988) I've listened this song for 10 times per day. I was a close friend with the DJ of the barracks. We had a choice between the music from the only state radio station at the time where there were only news about the great achievements of communism and patriotic music, and some tapes brought by some of us. The choice was very simple and natural - the few tapes were listened and re-listened to dozens and hundreds of times. 😊

It's strange that when some kids find something they like, they claim nobody knows about it (or that it's "under-rated"). Believe me, plenty of people know about Dire Straits. (Fame is right there in the name of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.)

Mmm.. I was once on a journey in a foreign land.. and my girl was in a distant place on her own journey.. and I missed her so much. At that time the riff from this song started playing in my head.. and it took some time before I found out that it was actually from this song, because I couldn't really remember ever hearing it before. That puzzled me, but also gave me the feeling that this song really embodies the emotions that the song is about.

To me Mark Konpfler is a quintessential example of someone who won't win any singing competition, yet could write, play guitar and deliver astoundingly beautiful songs. At least 6 out of the 9 songs here are all time classics.

Can't tell you how much the Dire Straights have embedded their music into my life and my brain. Y'all are an intricate part of my musical self. I was at the Nashville Vanderbilt Plaza Hotel and saw Mark's autographed photo hanging up, years ago. I would definitely consider him a down home boy and neighbor of mine. ❤

Dire Straits, Stones, Journey, Eagles, Santana, Gabrial, ACDC, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Tom Petty, all there music timeless. And what since Millenium only Hiphop and Rap Trash with no timeless music. I hear no modern music but only these oldies. The 70, 80 are soooo far away.
