@@resmimanoj5797 Yhhh this whole thing about dire wolves being bigger than grey wolves is bs. There are many different sub species of grey wolves. The largest one was the kenai wolf that weight about 200 pounds, stood at almost 4ft at the shoulder and was 7ft in length on AVERAGE!!! These guys are literally larger than dire wolves in every single metric...

The isotopic analysis determined that there was plenty of animals such as bison and horse for the dire wolf but also plenty of competition for predators such as the American Lion, Smilodon, and Short Faced Bear.

Though since the paper isn’t released yet it’s fine (though hopefully it gets released before the end of the year) but you should know we supposedly now know that Dire Wolves probably weren’t even apart of the genus Canis anymore, meaning the name Aenocyon dirus would possibly become the taxon name again. The study also supposedly suggests a south american origin for A. dirus which mean dire wolves would be another great example of convergent evolution between two canid genera. Source - m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7mHksequtTWnIE.html Also personal opinion here, I’d be wary about that asian dire wolf fossil as it easily could just be a large grey wolf specimen. That all aside great video, glad to see your channel is growing!

Yes the paper was released! I really hope the new information can become widespread so that people have more accurate depictions of dire wolves.

Actually Aenocyon actually had Asian origin, this is because the tribe Canini includes exclusively old world genera such as Canis, Cuon, Lycaon, Lupulella, Vulpes, Alopex, Otocyon, and Nyctereutes, thus the extinct genus Aenocyon was specifically part of the subtribe Canina as the most basal genus known, whilst all species that live in South America are the only extant representatives of the tribe Cerdocyonini, which includes all new world genera, new world canines (tribe Cerdocyonini) used to live in North America, but now exclusively inhabit South America to avoid competition with old world canines that arrived in North America.

Dire wolves are still wolves, it's actually just that wolves are an informal and polyphyletic group and are not a natural grouping, this explains why there are living and extinct genera of dogs with species called "wolves", in fact the new genus it is included within called Aenocyon is neither closely related to jackals or to other wolves, but was instead a basal genus within the subtribe Canina that evolved before any extant genus belonging to this subtribe, in fact the subfamily Caninae (Modern Dogs) contains three extant tribes, Urocyonini (Primitive Canines (contains 1 genus: Urocyon)), Cerdocyonini (New World Canines (contains 2 subtribes: Chrysocyonina (contains 3 genera: Atelocynus, Speothos, and Chrysocyon) and Cerdocyonina (contains 2 genera: Lycalopex and Cerdocyon))), and Canini (Old World Canines (contains 2 subtribes: Vulpina (contains 4 genera: Vulpes, Alopex, Otocyon, and Nyctereutes) and Canina (contains 4 genera: Lupulella, Lycaon, Cuon, and Canis))).
