On the other hand, amorphous silicon is a disordered or non-crystalline form of silicon, and it exhibits a direct bandgap. This makes it more suitable for certain optoelectronic applications, like thin-film solar cells and some types of photodetectors, where the direct bandgap is advantageous for light absorption.
