I do the same. They've been to my place 3 times in the past month asking about making sure I'm getting clean energy and not paying too much. When you ask about 4 or 5 "why"s, they tell you other people need their help, you're wasting their time

@Troy Z they're scam artists. They go door to door trying to socially engineer your private information out of you. They know full well they're scam artists. Everytime I answer (honestly just ignore them), the first thing is "hello sir. fantastic beard!"

@Troy Z weird question. The point is they come to your door knowing the entire point of their visit is to attempt to get your utility provider information. They will never contact you without your information already known. If they manage to get your information and/or sell you something, scam complete. What grade are you in?

Doesn’t matter how cheap these companies make fixed rate plans look. You still owe for usage that exceeds the fixed rate once the plan expires… and that’s usually yearly. So if you exceed the fixed rate by $500 total during the winter and the plan expires in June… then you owe $500 in June.

Don't think that all companies are bad. I know one, which will guarantee a rate for two years, you pay your normal bill, then they pay you the difference, at the end of that two years.

@@multydiamond The original post is over three years' old and I haven't seen any since. Maybe they finally realized how dumb door-to-door sales is. They were pretty lame salesmen anyway... no business cards, no brochures or flyers, they just wanted a copy of my electric bill... made no sense.

There actually is one, people just don't look into tablet before they walk their street.

I use salesrabbit. It allows you to pin a house on whether they were not home, not interested, go back, and other. Not only that but allows you to make notes. For example if a home is being built i use the other pin and write "home is being built" so I can keep an eye on it. Same for every option and even gives the date and time. It had helped me drastically. Actually boosted up my appointments and sales. There are so many apps out there. All door to door jobs have different apps.

It's only in certain states. Missouri doesn't have this but Illinois does idk about what other states that have deregulated energy.

If its for energy, then yes they do because many people get habituated with their current contracts and aren't aware that the energy market preys on that. Changing every year is what you want to do

You are so criminally wrong. I am literally in door to door sales as an appointment Setter for solar. We ONLY need the graph off the bill. You could crop out EVERYTHING except the graph. All solar guys want is your usage to build a proposal to show you how much cheaper they could make your power. You're trying to justify a way to pay more for electricity and it's honestly strange to me.

Also they told you not to give your bill to door to door sales people because the utility companies are losing a lot of business to solar because solar is cheaper power.

For example if they buy a nice new car, you are compelled to buy a nice new car. If they buy a new tv you go buy a new tv etc. etc. Theyre trying to pressure them into signing up for their scheme by implying that the neighbors have already signed up for it so they should too.

in maryland you can choose your own electric supplier. its completely legal for these companies to come door to door to offer their service. some companies charge extremely high rates but it's nothing you cant read before you sign. if you sign up for something that's extremely expensive thats your fault. but there are also companies that match pepco and bge's rates so its not all bad. just dont be an idiot. like you are now

I agree with you on one thing. That they aren't scammers. But one thing is certain. My wife and I just moved. At our previous address (in Illinois), they came soliciting door to door and I signed up with them. But I did so a bit reluctantly. Why? Because the guy who came to my door was less than honest. Deceptive means #1 is that they come with fliers bearing the COMED brand and even presented himself as though he was with COMED, or representing COMED. Deceptive measure #2. He stated that it was a new law or rule that COMED suppliers could no longer be supplied their energy through COMED, that all current COMED customers had to choose a different supplier. I called COMED after yhe fact and inquired about this, and was informed that his statement was not true. It is an option, but not a requirement. Deceptive measure #3 is that we were promised, and it was in writing, that we would receive a certain number of LED light bulbs in the mail, which we never received. They're just doing their job, yes, but if you have remotely any inkling of integrity and care for what is right and true, then you could not, would not work for a company that is training their people to engage in that kind of deceptive marketing practices. And if the only way that you, as a company, feel that you can bring in customers is through deceptive measures, then why should I trust you enough to do business with you? It really isn't that difficult to comprehend. Now, we just had our run in with them again at our new address. They tricked my wife into signing up. Normally, it is the account holder who is supposed to manage and make any changes to that account. She told them that I manage it and that I wasn't home. They lied to her and stated that she just needed to sign something, and that she wasn't agreeing to anything, that it was just so they knew that they had to return to this address to speak with the account holder (myself). I'm sorry, but your defense of these mindless employees who can't think for themselves doesn't hold any weight for me. If you as a company have to engage in deceptiont to get clients, you can't be trusted. And if you as an employee just blindly follow what you've been told to do by your bosses, without considering or questioning whether what they've instructed you to do is right or truthful, then you can't be trusted either. Period.

I did door to door sales at one point, and this is a tactic they use to make it seem like ‘everyone’s doing it’.

Yes I changed my to a fix rate which took away any increases to my bill! Because before my bill would be triple or even 5x what I pay now. Some people just assume they will have savings but if you use more than you did, of course your bill will go up?

They actually are. No state would legalize a "scam company" (multi billion dollar company) to go door to door to harass people about a scam.

It's not a scam it's what happens when the state deregulates gas company from supplying their gas. Then you have a supplier and the gas company who just handles the hardware and the bill. The gas supplier just makes and distribute the gas for them.
