This largest airborne operation of the Second World War involved British, American and Polish paratroopers from the 1st Independent Parachute Brigade under the command of General Sosabowski, who from the beginning believed that too few forces were assigned to such a large task.
The documentary 'Direction to Arnhem' tells the story of what happened in Eastern Holland in mid September 1944. I started shooting the film exactly on 17th of September 2021, the 77th anniversary of the Operation. I tried to tell the story as accurately as possible, day by day, so I visited most of the key places where the fighting took place. I based the scenario on literature, information available in the museums I visited, documentary films and consultations with people actively involved in this subject for many years. Any errors or inaccuracies I take upon myself. I am aware that there may be some, as Operation Market-Garden has been the subject of discussion and analysis for many years.
The film was made entirely with my own funds, at the same time I would like to thank everyone who helped me in making it. First of all, my wife Magdalena, who patiently recorded me and traveled with me the entire route of the operation (several times), for her support at every stage of production. To Michał for providing the capital shots from Dakota. I would like to thank the staff of the Bevrijdende Vleugels museum in Best for the opportunity to record inside and their kind reception, and Marcin from Kryptonim T-IV and Marcin from the Strefa Bojowa for a good word, factual support and valuable tips Wojtek for the de-scaling of dark shots. While working on this project, I also met many other kind people Poles, Dutch, Belgians.... who are cheering me on.
If you like the film, the greatest appreciation for my work will be sharing it further, so that the story of the brave paratroopers can be known by as many people as possible.
