I fully understood his comment. This trend happens in Hollywood as well. There are heavy weight films and franchises and there are low fly weight and straigh to DVD films too. We cant help that. Do you really think you can woo college and youth audience for a film like Mozhi make it run for 200 days?? Those kinda films are good to watch (feel good films) in a DVD at home with your family..Only commercial films like Dark knight rises, Mission impossible, Sivaji etc will have repeat audiences!

well ! All he is trying to say is that since ppl watch it, it doesnt mean its gud for us! I totally agree with Mukkodan views abt the increasing number of Tasmac jokes and scenes, showing vomitting as fun and the only job of bachelors! Also showing men will do anything for a quarter! Such a stupid, boring and totally crap repetitive concept! A comedy movie can be likeable like Naduvula konjam pakkatha kaanom. One of the cleanest, intelligent movies I have seen!

These people are arm chair critics. They mostly come from one group in society. Their intention is quite obvious - to criticize even a good film & look down upon its directors. The motive is hideous & hidden. It comes through the way they criticize a film. Their opinion is only their own & not others. They have no concrete idea of a good film. They are of only average I.Q.. It is upto the maker of the film to produce it the way he thinks & wants. It is for the people to see & decide collectively if it were good or bad. Who are they ? How could they arrogate themselves as custodian of public i.Q & reflect their intellectual taste ? Good or bad ? - who are these people to categorize the films ? They want to project themselves as trend setters of public morality in their role as critics. That had been so for a long long time when only a tiny minority was educated & aware. Today world over every one is educated & has sharp intellect. There is no intermediary needed to guide or decide what is good for them.

Gnani said "people have good and perverted thoughts in their mind, Paruthi veeran feeds the perverted". He was absolutely right: Paruthi Veeran's hero is low rate thug. But the thugs escapades are valorized and portrayed as lovable characteristics. It's funny to cut someone's ear, to stab a man a symbol of lawlessness and anarchy. But this guy is who this woman loves. So much so that she pleads on his feed for "love". One of the worst movies to show women in the worst possible light.

Firstly, I am relaxed, but looking from ur replies, u need to relax. I am not saying "this is how it should be". Its only my wish. And please dont bring hollywood into everything. What works there need not work here. We need a mind of our own! There are directors who question the society thru movies like KB, Kamal, Radha mohan etc. Some of them are successful too. We need these too! All I say is if we keep feeding a kid Burgers n pizzas its not going ask us to stop, we shud know the balance!

u dont seem to understand what i am trying to say! There is a diff between cheap/vulgar/totally mindless movies and good masala movies. I support the latter, but not the former! Shankar and Hari are good masala directors not others, Simple! Also understand one thing, the more people start watching thought provoking movies, it is a reflection of a thinking society. Watching "only" masala movies is not something to feel great about, whether u like it or not! Tata!

Point 2: International film festivals - the jury judging the movies - often don't have a good grasp of the stigmas of a particular society and clichés (like using transgendered people as a joke) that the movie exploits. They try to respect idiocies and exaggerations as a cultural nuance. Then there's also the condescending patronage to 'encourage' third world cinema. Ameer winning an award = a small boy winning a singing competition; he won not because he's good, but because he's a small boy.

What Gnani said was correct. If the Choice is between Veg or Non-Veg it's understandable. But the current Commercial movie sells Tasmac in a huge shop in a street where there's a very small Fruit-Juice stall.

Im sorry just cause you have two more songs and 5 more two piece songs doesnt mean it will be a bigger hit, sivaji was a hit cause it was a good movie with quality entertainment, a wonderful watch after a hard days work.Baba was a weak script and screen play and hence didnt do well by his standards. I dont understand people getting upset, i get upset when a brilliant movie like Anbe sivam FLOPS but wont be upset if IN MY OPINION an average film like Kuruvi IS A HIT
@englishtamil16 жыл бұрын
People who gave awards to this movie probably assumed that most Tamils live this thuggish life and Amir had shown it as it is (a false parallel drawn to the realism you find Ray's movies). I can say lot about why Parthi Veeran is a horrible movie. Point 1: People feed on perverted representations. A lot can be shown as evidence to this. So a movie being "liked" by people is no indicator to judge a movie (unless from a commercial angle). If it's all about what people "like" why have censors?
@ananthu7316 жыл бұрын
Who is Gnani? Is he popular to have a right to speak foul about Sivaji and Rajni. Sivaji is 100% entertainment, that brought joy to millions of fans in india and overseas. Here in UK, I witnessed non stop screening of houseful shows. The theatre managers could not understand why people were so crazy about the movie. they would have never witnessed such an event. Long live Rajni and great entertainment and joy he brings to us.

@vinithradhakrishnan8969 Жыл бұрын
@@joelo5164 Depends on how you define entertainment. I'll admit I loved Sivaji back in 2007. 16 year later, I consider it to be an average movie with a couple of good comedy scenes and decent music. I consider movies like Johnny and Mullum Malarum, released in 1980 and 1978 respectively, to be much better movies than Sivaji. Rajini's performance in those movies also was top notch. Imo, he's a very good actor who got trapped in the bubble of mass commercial masala. The reason for this change in view regarding Sivaji is that back then, my exposure to quality movies was limited. In these 16 years, I have seen tons of superb movies from several languages. Mozhi was much better in every way. I still love that movie to this day.
@vinithradhakrishnan8969 Жыл бұрын
@@joelo5164 Note: Sorry, this reply turned out much longer than intended. "it worked well and it turned out to be a Blockbuster" True. And that's the No.1 problem, in my opinion, plaguing Tamil Cinema not allowing it to rise beyond the ordinary and lackluster... the audience. Producers invest a lot of money into movies starring Rajini, Ajith or Vijay and they don't want to do anything besides what they know will guarantee profit, which is the usual mass masala nonsense. As long as the audience keeps supporting these type of movies, directors and producers don't want to do anything else. Film makers aren't exempt from blame either. I understand that cinema is a business and at the end of the day, what really matters is how much money the movie makes, not how good it is. But the point people like Ameer are overlooking (or choosing to ignore) is that a good movie will be profitable. His own Paruthi Veeran is an example. It's not a movie for everyone but it was still successful. Movies like Mozhi, Love Today, Irumbu Thirai, Chennai 28, Saroja, Pollathavan, Pizza, Jigarthanda, Soodhu Kavvum, Managaram, Kaithi, Kolamavu Kokkila, Ratchasan, Vada Chennai and more are fine examples that commercial movies need not throw logic completely out the window or fit into the "mass masala" genre by not having any semblance of a good script. A movie with a good script WILL make money at the box office. In fact, there's really no excuse to make movies like Varisu, Thunivu, Annathe, Bigil, Valimai, Darbar etc. that insult the intelligence of its audience. It doesn't matter if the audience accepts these. A film maker owes it to the audience to deliver good movies that doesn't insult their intelligence or takes them for granted. That's why I agree with Gnani when he says "Budhisaalinga, theramasaalinga aana nermayanavanga illa". This is 100% true to this day. Compare the Tamil industry to our much smaller neighbour, the Malayalam industry. Look at how innovative (both visually and at the creative level) their movies are. Their ability to make grounded, but very entertaining, movies are amazing. While we keep making excuses for the sorry state of our films, they keep delivering one fine movie after the other. Sure, they make some really terrible movies too, but the ratio of good to bad movies is much greater than ours. The number one reason for this in my opinion is their audience who appreciate fine movies and make them a hit, and film makers who are honest to their profession I.e film makers who respect their audience and not take them for granted. I personally would LOVE for Tamil cinema to rise to that level. Lokesh is promising, Vetrimaran is a film maker that Tamil cinema NEEDS and there are some others who seem to be talented and honest.

Dude relax maan!! If I need to change the society I don't need films?? there are many other ways to change or thought provoke a society!! And if one has to do films only for thought provoking then we could rather stick to non-feature documentaries (which again is done in Hollywood) and to has its own set of audiences (would suggest you to watch Inside job by Matt Damon). But its stupidity by calling the rest as trash. Cinema is an entertainment and you cant dictate how it should be.
Sorry, but if people say this so called masal movies is an easy way out then lets put it this way, teh reason thsi movie mozhi did so well was because it was a very good film but also a different movie, if everyone was releasing movie like mozhi we would get bored,and i dont understand this sivaji bashing, just dont bash teh movie if u dont like Rajini,it was a wonderful movie coming from a kamal fan
