To be fair: that was early 2021 and several strict anti-covid policies were placed. The crowd wasn't allowed to shout and they had to wear two face masks: their own mask and another one provided by the organization. Also the capacity of the arena was reduced to a half. Yes, you have mentioned earlier that you don't like the dancing. And it's okay. They are not the usual metal band or group. Choreo is an intrinsic part of what they do. As a lifelong metalhead myself it was hard to digest at first. Not for everyone. Understandable. I don't know what kind of audio setup are you using because I hear Su-metal perfectly with mine. 🤔 Not a pizza sign or whatever. It's a kitsune (fox) sign. It's important to them and to us. Respect. Anyway, "Karate" is definitely on their poppier side, even structurally. Progressive? Idk... If you want something progressive af you should check out "Tales of the Destinies". 🤘🦊

_Ossu!_ 🦊🤘🥋 Welcome back to BM journey, it's been a while. This song is from 2016 so you can find a lot of versions of this when YuiMetal was still in the group before October 2017 of course, but if you don't care about the dance elements then it won't make any difference for you. Budokan 2021 marks their 10 years anniversary celebration and seal the Metal Resistance chapter along with another seal for the group, fortunately that seal is already broken since last year they were releasing new singles and kick start of the new metalverse era with a new BM side we've never seen before. Ending January, they held two live concerts at Makuhari Messe marking their return after almost two years without live performance since these Budokan live concerts anniversary series. They fought against many enemies on this road and many more battles, but they manage to get through all of it, and this song is one of those strong weapons they had, to fight and conquer every metal heart that don't believe in them, Road Of Resistance is another highly recommend to check it out. Budokan is just a name for general martial arts place, there are other Budokan throughout Japan but this one in Tokyo is the most important and is big, this is the place any artist wants to reach when you're over the top, and they did it already in 2014 when they were even younger and having many struggles so they needed a revenge to pull away those ghosts from the past. Sadly this 2021 live concerts is half capacity due to restrictions all over the world and safety measures (guess you already know why), the crowd wasn't allowed to mosh'sh, crowd surfing or shout without face mask, instead they can stomp their feet, clap their hands or doing a human wave, at least they can do something to participate in this epic and memorable event, so the crowd sound you're listening here is a prerecorded track, but I'm pretty sure if they would've been allowed to shout, it would have been even louder. Momoko Okazaki was the _avenger_ or third backup dancer filling the third spot in all these 10 live concerts as well in all the 2023 shows, she's MomoMetal now, an official member. Karate lyrics is about keep fighting despite the obstacles but always looking for your friends help, that's why you see them helping each other in the bridge section, although if you look for the official MV you'll see revealing that there's no harder enemy than yourself. Try also to look for live at Download Festival 2016 version, is even more beautiful during the bridge and with the full original trio, you'll also get that crowd interaction you're looking for unlike in this version limited for the reasons i already told you. More suggestion to keep learning about BM early era: - Headbanger!! live at Legend 1997, held in 2013. Gans Tomas got this clip safe to react under Head Bangya title. - Akatsuki live at Budokan 2014, "BM Fans Ecuador" got this. And after that: - Amore live at Wembley Arena 2016. You can find all these songs from Wembley and Tokyo Dome 2016 with watermarked logo safe to react at Reactor Resource (BMRR), check "Future Plans" vid and follow instructions to get all of them. The Kami Band in charge all these 10 nights at Budokan were the Eastern or Japanese band, now they have another crew when going on tour abroad we called them Western Kami Band, they've been using masks since 2019, prior to this Kami Band used to wear white face painted and burial robes as well to represent spiritual entities. None of them are official members and they only play live, so when you hear studio album sound the Kami Band isn't there, except for Leda Cygnus (guitarist and bassist) on certain songs. Fans love Kami Band and that's why they researched info on who they are behind their hidden persona. This time, they are: ISAO and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums, all of them were pretty regular at live concerts since 2013 but until 2018 everyone remember Mikio Fujioka, a beloved guitarist who sadly passed away. Btw when you're clueless about dance choreography and the beauty on it as well the hard work and the skills you need to get in sync perfectly then you're the one who looks stupid comparing them with Napoleon whatever, not trying to be rude, just honest true like you said. See you next time. 🦊🤘🥋

I used to hate dancing but then i figured out I hate dancing to crap music. The dance tells the story of the song. They were defeated and fell down, but they helped each other up and with thier unity they defeated their enemies. Your hearing is shot cuz I could hear them just fine and my hearing is shot so yours is even worse.

If you think about the year of this performance (2021) you might remember certain virus doing it's rounds all around the world during that time. So yeah not having that much crowd interaction during the song isn't really babymetals fault since it was mandated by the japanese covernment that the crowd interaction must be minimal.

Crowd interaction flows through the dancers. It goes back to performance theater and music traditions in Japan. Babymetal is not just a band but musical theater. Babymetal has arguably the greatest crowd control and interactions of any band today. That has always flowed through the dancers. If you don’t like it fine but it is what they do with massive success.

BABYMETAL have been very successful doing things their own way for 13 years now. The Nippon Budokan in Tokyo is possibly the most prestigious venue for concerts in Japan. Think the equivalent of Madison Square Garden or Carnegie Hall. It is where all Japanese (and many foreign) artists aspire to play and only a tiny minority ever get to do so. BABYMETAL first played there in 2014 and became the youngest ever female band to headline there ... they were aged just 16, 14 and 14 and they sold it out two nights running. This was 2021 and they were back - this time they played 10 solo headline shows over the course of the first 3 or 4 months of the year and they even got to record a music video in the arena with it completely empty - I can't think of any other band who would be allowed to do that. I don't get why you would want would the crowd do most of the singing? Maybe that works with a couple of those other bands your chat like so much ... I would try to sing over their vocalists too (and I can't sing). I have read that in Japan it is considered rude to sing along with the lead singer, so BABYMETAL songs include the parts sung by Yui and Moa (now by Moa and Momoko) which the crowd will sing along with ... in this instance the "Seiya, Soya, Ossu" chants. They are masters of crowd control and interaction - that is actually a huge part of what their choreo is for, but there are a few people who never really understand that (and never will until they go and see them live for themselves). Budokan 2021 was during the pandemic. They were only able to put on the 10 concerts they played at all if everybody adhered to very strict restrictions ... first off the arena was limited to half capacity, the crowd couldn't join in and sing along for this performance because they were not allowed to. They had to wear two masks, they were not allowed to shout or scream, they could clap, jump, wave and stamp their feet - anything more and the concerts were off. The 2016 Download performance of 'Karate' in the English rain has the crowd singing along - if you want to see a Japanese crowd singing along with them try the Red Fox Festival performance of 'Megitsune' (that has an all female audience) or the official live video for 'Road of Resistance' live in Japan. I have no idea what that Napoleon thing was, but it bears absolutely no relation or resemblance to the BABYMETAL choreo - especially the choreo for 'Karate' where they took inspiration from various martial arts movies and karate katas for the choreo and where the song itself was about fighting on when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard, helping each other through hard times. 'Karate' was the lead single for the second album released in 2016 - as such it is possibly one of their more "radio friendly" songs in its structure and sound rather than being one of their more energetic, party songs like 'PA PA YA'. However, unlike other bands who mainly limit themselves to one style or genre, every BABYMETAL song is different and they do them all and may even mix more than one or two of those genres into a song. If you do explore more of their catalogue you will find power/speed metal, thrash, Prog metal, djent, black metal, death metal, folk metal, psy-trance metal, industrial metal, nu-metal, rock, pop, EDM, Bollywood, rap, hip hop, ballads, ska and more - sometimes more than one in one song.

You are right in saying the usual Japanese crowd does NOT sing with the singer, it is considered rude to the artist and the other audience members. I've watched other concerts by other artists and and when they cheer, it only occurs when the song is over. And the cheer is usually very short. That's why THIS particular group is special because the two girls for scream and dance SHOW when and what the audience CAN cheer and follow along, basically mimicking them. That is the beauty of this group. He has listened to several of BM songs already, and he still doesn't understand that this is a show, and not just a concert. He has the subtitles on and he still didn't understand the song. I think he may need some time for the songs to sink in if he deems them worthy of a deeper thought. I hope he does because each song is a poetic narrative of a message they are trying to convey. And the choreo adds to that message with a physical display of the emotion and narrative. It is a lot to take in and some people take longer than others to see and notice it. For example, this song performed at 2023 BM Begins with the video interlude in the middle refers to the feeling of BM being knocked down when Yui left. But BM got back on their feet and push on forward with a new third member Momometal. That was really cool. As always great response Grington300. Always a pleasure to read your comments.

This concert was held right as the pandemic restrictions were “starting” to lift. Budokan had to be held at half capacity, and technically speaking, were not allowed to scream and yell as they typically would. Also, no moshing, no leaving your seat, etc etc, cuz, you know, the good’ol ‘Rona. Same song, Download UK 2016, you’ll see the difference in crowd engagements, and Su’s crowd control. Every live concert video I’ve seen, there are crowd engagements built into Babymetal’s performance once every few songs, not including the parts where fans typically sing back. This has been the norm since ~2014 for Babymetal. If choreography isn’t your thing, then you probably won’t like most of Babymetal live. It is their trademark, and one major selling point to most fans. Also, Babymetal constantly explores new genre mixing and styles with their music, so it’s always going to be different. Yes, they will always bring the fun and energy, but it will be done differently. There won’t be an Album of “Pa Pa Ya’s”. Maybe just check out Babymetal on your own, I’m sure you’ll find a few songs you will enjoy, then skip the rest. No need to poke fun at an element that is appreciated heavily by majority of their fans! 🤘🦊

BABYMETAL is DIFFERENT on every level, which is a much needed breathe of fresh air to me. Even though I may not be a metalhead, even I thought "I don't know what to think about this." back in 2016 when I first saw them perform "Gimme Chocolate" on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert". But I got use to their cute voices, I got use to the dancing, and I got use to listening to songs that were not in my language! Honestly, Mikio's (RIP) guitar solo and their energy that made me check out more of their music. Now, even though I'm a grumpy 52 year old American, I listen to BABYMETAL...EVERY...DAMN... DAY! Sure, I don't love every song, but I can happily listen to 99.5% of their songs!🤘🦊🤘

They have performed this song many times with crowd participation, the best one being the 2016 Download Festival performance. But because this concert was held in 2021 at the height of the pandemic, there were strict rules regarding fan participation. Everyone was required to wear a mask, no one was allowed to scream or shout, every other seat had to remain empty to keep people apart. The only noise people were allowed to make was clapping their hands and stomping their feet.

You should check out the official music video to get a little better idea of the song itself, plus it's a very well crafted video with great effects. Not everyone is going to get what they do......or even like it, that's their choice. But with I don't know how many millions of fans across the globe they must be doing something right. And their choreography is always on point, which goes back to when they first started the beginnings of BM back in 2010. Their choreographer has been Mikiko Mizuno for a long time. She is one of the top practitioners of choreography in Japan. And their dancing is a damn sight better than any of the crap you see in the States. But like they say in Brooklyn, sazeech his own, lol.

You should start at the beginning. The REAL beginning. When they were little kids. Try their first single, Doki Doki Morning. You want audience interaction? This one doesn't quite work for audience interaction. Try their newest one METALI. Literally a song about a metal village festival. And watch it live if you can. If you liked Papaya you'll LOVE this one. Or watch Road Of Resistance live in Japan official. One of the best audience moments in Babymetal history. The dancing, mixed with pop melodies and heavy music IS Babymetal's Identity. Unfortunately I try to avoid all performances from the 2021 Budokan set of concerts because they were done during the pandemic and there were too many restrictions on audience participation. In fact, the cheers and "audience" you hear was actually piped through the speaker system, as audience members were NOT allowed to cheer or yell. Making these concerts somewhat weaker because of that. I'd also avoid any Glastonbury videos too, as the BBC totally butchered the sound mix. Oh wow. Comparing their dancing to Napoleon Dynamite.... Well that's rude. You know... It takes a lot of stamina, practice, and professionalism, to synchronize and memorize over 60 different choreographies, then have to perform 10 to 12 of them every night while on tour, plus learn new choreography for upcoming songs not yet released. PLUS sing and learn new lyrics! That's a lot of talent and dedication being mocked and taken for granted. In the words of the great Rob Zombie, "These three girls had more energy than 90% of the bands we play with." "They are nice kids out on the road touring. What are you doing besides being a grumpy old *uck". And the best comeback of all, "They roll harder than you." And Rob Halford, "They are the future of metal. The younger generation." Thank you to the two Robs for being Babymetal's defenders of the faith!

The choreo is not how it's usually is for pop groups, expecially K-Pop, where they try only to do cute dances, show off skills and show off skin. The choreo often has a meaning, and if you watch the official MV you might get it! I will not tell you what it is in the hope you figure it out yourseld if you want to check it out! Other people already told you that the crowd was not allowed to chant and make noise. The crowd noise was recorded from other shows to let the atmosphere of this one be similar to the usual ones! I think you need to remember that this was done at the start of the covid lockdowns and a lot of restrictions were in place on the audience about over doing it. They knew that and so the audience participation was limited. Use that info for your hot take. Next most of the dancing for this song as actually karate forms. And you've done lost your mind comparing Babymetals dancing to the movie bit. sorry not the same at all. Especially on this track since most of it was inspired by the song's tittle. The next time you're listening to some other metal music tell yourself oh that's just Bach with electrified guitars and Bass. And as we know a lot of it is. But no one thinks that even after someone points out that is exactly what they're playing. So yes, surrounding it with metal does change what it is. If you put growly growl vocals over pop music, it would still be growly growl vocals. But it would automatically change the type of music it is. No longer just pop music but it would become something else. Such is the nature of things. If it's not for you, it's not for you. Someday down the line you'll hear Babymetal again and it might just click for you. Until then See You

I miss the choreography"😉 If you don't continue (your choice of course) then you will have missed the opportunity to see (in my opinion) the best LIVE performance band on the planet that can nail so many different genres. They have over 60 different songs. Ignore Official MV's as most are studio recordings over LIVE footage (except for Road of Resistance LIVE in Japan. Opt instead for HQ pro shot videos of LIVE performances(such as the one you just reacted to). IF you continue you will understand just what an incredible and versatile vocalist Suzuka Nakamoto is. Or at least a BTS fan, before I got into METAL I was a big BTS fan, I am still. Isn't the dancing there the "same thing" as BABYMETAL? It's just kinda weird to me that you think the dance is "stupid" but okay. And tbh I don't really think the live you watched was the best choice to react, Karate at download festival would be better I feel. Also I completely disagree with your chat, it's kinda the opposite. Becca I appreciate your honesty right back. So yes, I am a kpop fan, sure (and a fan of all types of other stuff, too), but I don't think in this situation 'dance is dance is dance. It's all very very different. The insanely complex choreography having to be not only memorized by synced AND done while singing a 2-hour show is quite a leap from what I was seeing here in Karate. To me it just felt a little gimmicky; but truth be told I can't really offer another alternative to what they're doing... but like I say, it's really just not for me. And in terms of the chat, yeah, I'm sure most of them are in the same boat as me since we're normally a kpop-oriented channel, and as people do sometimes, we jump to conclusions on things we don't really know much about. 100%. I wouldn't say i am done with BM, for sure, but these last two, just weren't for me. I LOVE Pa Pa Ya and Monochrome and listen to both often.

@@ThisRoscoe Huh? "The insanely complex choreography having to be not only memorized by synced AND done while singing a 2-hour show". OK this is not the most complex choreo in this song. It was written for and first performed by 16-18 year olds. They have much more complex choreo (and some simpler too). It is meant to be interpretive of the song not a thirst trap, which is what most pop dancing is. Not to mention most Babymetal music is MUCH more complex in terms of time signature than the music in dance oriented pop (both J-pop and K-pop). But in fact exactly what they do is insanely complex dance while singing during a 2 hour show. And man the Napolean Dynamite thing was a frickin insult.

Nothing wrong with not liking it. Babymetal can be an aquired taste. The concert was done under strict covid rules so the place was only about half full and they could not vocalize or mosh. They could only applaud or jump in place. That may be why the crowd seemed les lively to you. Any cheering you did hear was prerecorded from previous shows. That is all very unforunate but it is what it is. The choreography is who Babymetal is and makes them interesting and unique. I never thought I would want to see anything like that but now I love it. I think it would still be weird if other bands did it but with Babymetal it works very well. It makes sense based on their roots as J-pop idols. You could barely hear the singing over the music??? To the people in your chat thinking that the band overshadows the girls. The band dont make the songs, they dont perform them for the cd as far as i know. They are just hired to play live shows and as most people know, there are 2 kami bands. So Babymetal makes everything and allow some musicians to play with them;) Like many people have said, this was middle of covid so it was super strict on what the audience could do...
@Tyyppl
@Tyyppl 6 ай бұрын
Also babymetal didn't even have a band at first because they could not afford it. It was the immense talents of the girls (and the team behind them ofcourse) that made them popular in the first place.

In your summary section, in Japanese, 'Did you enjoy it?' but to be honest, I did not enjoy it much. Well, I think it's important to be honest. What is the last one? Is this your ideal dance? 😅 Are you a fan of the lead singer?, because you prefer Monochrome or Papaya. Or do you prefer the ones more crowd interaction? If so, maybe Karate is not a song that interacts with the crowd too much (it has a interaction in the breakdown, 'everybody jump!', though). You're right, maybe it's a song to enjoy listening to Su-'s voice. But did you mean that the background music was louder and not better in this video clip? If so, I recommend her solo songs, Akatsuki, No Rain No Rainbow, Rondo of Nightmare, Amore.

I have to say I am kinda disappointed here. I was on the precipice of writing a post earlier about how impressed I was with the BM fandom and how honest and receptive people were with understanding that this performance just wasn’t for me. I loved Pa Pa Ya and Monochrome, I may not like them all, and there may be aspects of them that just aren’t for me. Most people appreciate the honesty instead of fake/blind praise of their favorite artist(s). And just because I’m not a fan of the style of dancing in the context of the performance doesn’t equate to me disliking BM.

@@ThisRoscoe I think most of us are perfectly fine with an honest reaction and appreciate not all their songs will hit the same (very few of us can even agree on what our own favourite songs are), but likening their choreo to that Napoleon whatever nonsense was disrespectful and so very wrong, so you rubbed a few people up the wrong way with that.

Very odd how you seemed enchanted and enjoyed your first 1 or 2 BABYMETAL reactions and for some reason now you don't like the dancing and can't get into them. It's like Tales of the Destinies broke you since you didn't like that one, which I understand as I don't like prog metal at all. Others already explained why the crowd isn't as loud, You should watch the 2016 Download performance instead. 🤘🦊🤘

The first one had dancing (Pa Pa Ya) which was the first exposure I had. It was unique. The 2nd one was Monochrome and that didn't have dancing. Loved that song too. Mirror grew on me a little later (a little bit, not my favorite still) and Karate I just wasn't feeling. Haven't given up yet, but still on the fence.

@@ThisRoscoe Oh right, it was Mirror Mirror. Not Tales of the Destinies. Well, heads up, you probably wont like it. I adore BABYMETAL and still don't care for that song. Mirror Mirror is just ok to me as well. Monochrome has dancing but I think you watched the MV. There are better performances of Karate but I think you may enjoy some of their other songs more. BMC live is great, Shanti Shanti Shanti LIVE (Not MV) for some Metal Bollywood style and Night Night Burn for some fun latin metal flavor. Road of Resistance LIVE in Japan is a staple and usually a must see. Headbanger from legend 1997 usually a must as well. I am sure other's gave god info too. 🤘🦊🤘

They've done what you wanted a dozen times. My problem with your approach is that you come up with a list of boxes they have to check instead of just being completely open and judge later. That's the reason why you liked PA PA YA and Monochrome; there were no expectations. When you listen too much music you become cynical. It happened to me with movies. At some point I stopped feeling anything and just coldly analyzed them with crazy arbitrary standards, so most of what I watched I considered to be bland. I had to take a break from it and reevaluate the way I approach art and had to learn more about film history and movements to start deconstructing my cynicism. Nowadays I can enjoy pretty much any movie even if I dislike them. As bad as they can be, there's something truly enjoyable when you go with open mind. But damn it was hard to completely erase from my head the list of things movies had to have in order to get my attention. That doesn't mean I also erased my knowledge. In fact, now I'm much more knowledgeable compared to before.

Gotta say man, you & chat deserve some of the flak you’re getting in these comments. I was annoyed during the livestream with the way some people were talking about Babymetal but didn’t really know how to respond to them since I am not well-versed in all things Babymetal being only a casual listener since being introduced to them almost 2 yrs ago. As someone who likes Babymetal and has been watching Roscoe for over a year, yes Roscoe was wrong in some of what he did in this reaction and he is not too full of himself to admit when he’s wrong but some of you commenters are equally wrong for assuming stuff based on what little you’ve seen of Roscoe. For example, saying he doesn’t know dance and music go together because he’s American; he’s a huge MJ fan and as you can tell by the decor on his wall a huge BTS fan too. My advice to both parties here is show a bit more civility.

@@KharaChmiel The only K-Pop that I listen to is some of Dreamcatchers heavier stuff so I can’t really compare the two. From what I have seen they are two completely different styles. All I have to say is the stuff these ladies do, K-Pop and BM takes an incredible amount of talent and skills to do. Anyone that can’t appreciate that has no real right to be reacting to that aspect of these performances. Not everyone likes BM and I fully respect that and I appreciate the honesty vs pretending to like something to gain views.
