there is a whole story to this dance, the beginning part was all serious and such but when it became "muted" it was the way he felt when he had to go on hiatus he wasn't allowed to dance, sing, or even spend time with the guys ( they were doing kingdom) but the smile on his face when it came back to "loud" music was like Hey IM BACK!!!! and watch what i can do.

I’ve heard that in the beginning he looked “princely” because at the beginning of his career, he was only perceived as a visual. Then he worked hard on dancing to become the powerhouse he is. Then he got put on hiatus after being falsely accused (which is where the music backs off). But he kept working hard through it to come back stronger and more fierce than ever. Full of joy and attitude and just amazed us all. It’s truly a story of his career to that point. You can see the drive to be a phenomenal dancer. So proud of him.

Theres a theory that ive seen somewhere that basically said this was him giving up his "prince of kpop" title because at the start he looks like a prince and is very well put together but as it goes on he rips the cape off and gets more and more disheveled (with his shirt getting unbuttoned) and the way hes dancing is very sensual and seductive and princes dont typically dance like that because they're royal and have an image to uphold. He got the title of the "prince of kpop" really early on because of his looks and not because of his skill so this is either him trying to get rid of that title entirely or trying to show that hes more than just his visuals because he covers his face for alot of the dance.

Hyunjin apparently gets quite provoked. He said it annoyed him when people always told him he could easily get by as a visual with his face & didn’t need to work so hard. And so it made him work extra hard.
