That is how I feel about my ($5K) Sony SCD-1 Player... It plays SACDs very well, but its sound quality is not up to today's standards... :)

Paul, as you know living in S America makes products get really expensive and also a bit of an ordeal getting to import them, sort out customs etc. Already got my LanR, my DS Junior etc but in order to take the "plunge" and order one of these through your dealer in Argie (S&K) one has to really do the research, investigate, scrutinize etc especially if one doesn't possess enough deep pockets. Was wondering if there are any more vids on the Memory Player or you guy are planning to shoot one more?

I don't get it: read-ahead buffering is quite a common thing. Isn't it.

It's cool you can play SACDs with an external DAC with this thing. I'm skeptical about how much improvement you can get from another re-clocking/buffer stage before the DAC, although I imagine there is SOME change for probably mysterious reasons. If jitter is the real issue, I would be more concerned with with the DAC, electrical interference, and even the digital cable. And I'm sure this is a fine product.
@vincentvin43453 жыл бұрын
do you believe that dac will make a miracle with incoming cr*p?Transport is way more important.
@chipsnmydip3 жыл бұрын
@@vincentvin4345 Both are important, but the DAC is responsible most for the character of the sound. I agree, though, the input quality (jitter, noise, ground loops) does have a big impact on the DAC. The DAC I use now uses a fiber optic connection and that pretty well sorts out the source noise issue, even better than I2S.
@vincentvin43453 жыл бұрын
@@chipsnmydip In my universe laws of physic are still working.Dac chip needs to be feed with pure signal otherwise chip will function in 30 percent of its capacity.In audio everything matters but most important is foundation like power supply and then need to move along.Whole rig of course will sound like cheapest component in a chain.
@chipsnmydip3 жыл бұрын
@@vincentvin4345 The thing is, in digital the signal is pure automatically. The problem is electrical noise and jitter noise that get into the DAC.

I had the Digital Lens back in the day. I improved the PSU and put in a new clock. Did it improve? Hmmmmm?.. It was near perfect to begin with. I absolutely loved it.
@mikeg249111 ай бұрын
I actually just bought one off eBay and waiting for it to arrive from Germany, still a good buy in 2023 especially with vintage dacs?
@johnlenerd11 ай бұрын
For sure. It's still a gem. 18 bits is the highest resolusjon if I remember correctly? Easy to modify, if you want to?
@mikeg249111 ай бұрын
@@johnlenerd 18-bit is more than enough, I can’t hear the difference on 96/192khz content anyway.

Is possible to use DirectStream Memory Player to read songs from a NAS device or only via USB port?
@pepe66666 жыл бұрын
Whats the accuracy of the playback timing? I wasnt aware that inter-component RF was such an issue for discrete data signals at such low clock speeds. It sounds like clock jitter was this horrible terrible problem. Im confused because i have a 2MHz digital oscilloscope that can watch a square wave with no problem. Are mitigating techniques used by PS also used in high freq digital sco..sco..scopes? Sorry, had some jitter.

The L.P. has NEVER been the best sounding source, try good old bit stream 1 bit 2.6 MHz or higher sampling. Benn around for years. Remember the big 12" video discs? Enough of renaming old technology. 1-Bit Mhz speed sampling and playback, take a regular cd and convert it to 4 x 2.6 Mhz or more, even just 2.6 Mhz 1-bit format and then replay it with a bitstream decoder. Poof, it will sound better. Think about it 1-bit audio can be closer to analogue than multi-bit audio. It is a math and physics thing.
