I’m a young guy who just recently found out about dire straights and I got to say they are one of the few bands that sound better live than on recording. It’s kind of baffling they aren’t as well known as some of the other greats, they should be in the top 5 rock bands of all time in my opinion. They are criminally underrated.

This band is often overlooked. Dire straits is F*cking ridiculous. They kill it live. Mark is easily one of my favorite guitarists/songwriters. Just splendid.

Overlooked? They were everywhere all of the time in the eighties. So much they made me sick with drivle like walk of life. Their first 3 albums were great and then they sold out to Phillips Compact Disc.

"... She took off her silver locket She said, "Remember me by this" She put her hand in my pocket I got a keepsake and a kiss And in the roar of dust and diesel I stood and watched her walk away I could have caught up with her easy enough But something must have made me stay.....". Mark Knopfler (poet and composer).

@green917 there's a great line in Sultans "guitar George, he knows all those fancy chords, but he's strictly rhythm, don't wanna make that guitar cry and sing" the fantastic irony of it because that "making it cry and sing" is exactly what Mark does!

Glorious. No phones or Ticket master. Saw them as a support act on the 1st album tour. Usual baracking of a support band and laughter. Nobody was laughing as they went thro their set and Mark played in his style. We knew they could be huge.

I have been a diehard DS/MK fan since I first heard Sultans in 78. I saw DS live in 85 and then in 91. Seen MK live 5 times through the years. Tunnel of Love is by far my favorite DS song among many others. Im not partial to any single rendition, but this one sounds raw and stripped down compared to the classic Alchemy version (my favorite). I love the lineup here with Pick, John, Hal Lindes, and Alan Clark. May have been Pick's final year before he left the band. I read somewhere that MK doesn't play TOL because it was his Dad's favorite song and after he passed away, Mark says it's too hard for him to play. Luckily It forever lives on KZfaq.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s with a dad that introduced me to the likes of Dire Straits, Clapton, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Sky, The Who. Zeppelin etc etc The band dearest to me is Dire Straits - no one touches Knopfler, out of all the fantastic guitarists from above bands.

I don't know if you play guitar, but as a guitarist of almost 45 years myself, I'd have to agree with you. At that time of his life he really was a genius. His latest album has some shades of that..but it's to be expected. I expect he'll still be scribling down new beautiful lyrics and leads while waiting at the pearly gates...😊

I couldn't possibly say who is the best. I have seen live Messrs. Knopfler, Clapton and Santana. Eric Clapton just played brilliantly but had no rapport with his audience; Mark Knopfler and Carlos Santana made us feel part of it - it's so close.

I was on the east London tube from Rotherhithe to Whitechapel and upon reaching the street a man down on he’s luck approached me . Son come here. I stopped dead . Got 50p for a cup of tea for me . Yer here . Where you going work I said. Grateful son here take this and he gave me an album that was tucked under he’s arm . No you keep it . I insist. When I got home I put it on the radiogram . I was hooked and been a faithful admirer of mark and he’s work since. I guess the man who was down on luck is long gone now but I am truly thankful to him for turning my life round .If you’re looking down old friend from heaven your life wasn’t in vain . And I thank you from the bottom of my heart

Excellent raw performance of this timeless classic hit from Dire Straits. I was 17 in Dec 1980 here in New Zealand and lived and breathed Dire Straits. However the best was yet to come. The version on the double live LP Alchemy from Hammersmith Odeon '83 is my favorite. Knopfler is perfection.

I am crying tears of joy and sadness…. The joy that I grew up listening, watching and learning this bloody good music. Live concerts were not breaking your bank balance and the were in great abundance. The talent was endless and the artists could play and sing without any auto tuning. Now for the tears of sadness is that we will never see anything on this level of brilliance ever again… Look now at the so called modern Hitparade then you know what I mean.

This version of Dire Straits and the one with his brother to me were the best. Pick on drums gives it a very earthy and natural energetic feel. I got to see Mark Knopfler solo performance. It was great. But this band has soul. This is one of my favourite songs. It has so much emotion. I can see why his dad loved it. Time passes so quickly. I am glad this moment was captured on film. I just love the ending sequence and guitar chords and lead.

As much as I appreciate the music, I really appreciate how well filmed this was. There were nice long shots without the quick, herky-jerky editing of most music videos, the color was great, and the sound was very clear. It is so rare to get everything right as this video did. I have often wished this band had kept at it for a lot longer but I guess Mark needed to stretch his chops as a solo musician. For all his music, I am grateful.

Incroyable de réécouter ce morceau et la diversité de ses différents mouvements. C'est à chaque fois un nouvel univers musical qui s'ouvre. 12 minutes de bonheur. Et évidemment le bridge à 8 minutes
