All Manu had to do is not foul, he had just made the three to put us up three, Dirk got the and one, in OT the Mavs get us. Little things like that kept us from multiple threepeats, just like the .4 in 04 when Derek Fisher got a little help from the clock operator.

I don't mind people staying loyal to their team, but Dirk declined a 4 year max from the Lakers in 2014, and took a huge pay cut to stay with the Mavs. The Mavs rewarded his sacrifice by signing Chandler Parsons to a max. Dirk should have done his 4 years in LA with Kobe and then come back for this season with the Mavs.

As a lifelong spurs fan, I can say this about Dirk: Even though I would root against you & your team when you crossed paths with the spurs, there wasn’t a single moment I would disrespect you. You’ve always been that player that you always love until you cross paths with my team. I can remember so many games, regular season &/or playoff, that I would go to knowing that it was going to be one hell of a game. Even if you beat my spurs in the playoffs, I’d always root for you to keep on moving to hopefully win it all. I know I’m a few years late but congrats on a legendary career! Wow! Watching Dirk highlights again after the Mavs retired his # last night, and I’m bawling my eyes out right along with him (as a huge longtime fan of Dirk’s and a lifelong Chicago Bulls’ fan as a Windy City native). Met Dirk in an elevator at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago back in 2007 after meeting with a client. Mavs were in town for a Bulls game. Staying at Ritz. Just me and Dirk. Chance. Timing. One of my all time fave guys on a different team. What a great guy. Chatted for several minutes. So long that when we left the hotel, dozens of fans outside rushed Dirk AND ME (all 5’8” of me in my suit and tie) asking both of us for autographs assuming I must be with the team. LOL Of course I didn’t let them down. I signed their stuff. Silly. But fun. I went back to Dirk and pulled out my Biz card and asked him for his autograph. He laughed his big German laugh and said apparently he should be asking for mine! Hilarious! He signed my card and marked it with a giant 41. Ended up hating that job and quitting soon after, but that Biz card is displayed quite prominently in my Chicago area home’s man cave right along with all of my legendary Chicago Bulls’ Championship stuff. Always loved Dirk. Still do. Class to the max!! Miss you, man. ❤️ You were a GD beast! Thanks for being kind and real.

How many players have EVER had their number retired by a team for whom they never played? Only Jordan. So many memories as a Spurs fan. All of those classic playoff battles against Dirk and the Mavericks. Takes me back to a special time in my life. Thanks for the memories, Dirk.
