Wow! Watching Dirk highlights again after the Mavs retired his # last night, and I’m bawling my eyes out right along with him (as a huge longtime fan of Dirk’s and a lifelong Chicago Bulls’ fan as a Windy City native). Met Dirk in an elevator at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago back in 2007 after meeting with a client. Mavs were in town for a Bulls game. Staying at Ritz. Just me and Dirk. Chance. Timing. One of my all time fave guys on a different team. What a great guy. Chatted for several minutes. So long that when we left the hotel, dozens of fans outside rushed Dirk AND ME (all 5’8” of me in my suit and tie) asking both of us for autographs assuming I must be with the team. LOL Of course I didn’t let them down. I signed their stuff. Silly. But fun. I went back to Dirk and pulled out my Biz card and asked him for his autograph. He laughed his big German laugh and said apparently he should be asking for mine! Hilarious! He signed my card and marked it with a giant 41. Ended up hating that job and quitting soon after, but that Biz card is displayed quite prominently in my Chicago area home’s man cave right along with all of my legendary Chicago Bulls’ Championship stuff. Always loved Dirk. Still do. Class to the max!! Miss you, man. ❤️ You were a GD beast! Thanks for being kind and real.

tim... SO true. That was really because of Pat Riley deciding to but it is also an overlooked point in the James vs. Jordan argument. How many players have EVER had their number retired by a team for whom they never played? Only Jordan. The Heat were getting good then too, they won the Championship some time afterward too so it wasn't a bottom feeder organization. *It was far from 100% Pat Riley making the decision, I know.
